From Energizing the Student section, to dialing down Godzillatron to moving the opposing teams fans to the bleeds, the game day environment is night and day from years past. Great job CDC! I have never heard the stadium as loud as it was today...hook’em!

Your comments are spot on. I am honestly blown away at how CDC has been able to make such significant changes so fast. I haven't followed the changes to the student ticket policy but I'll tell you this- I was very surprised that their sections were full last week and last night they were packed like sardines. The students were loud and they stayed to the end. Bevo Blvd was awesome before the game, $5 16-oz!! And the godzillatron... no cheesy weather update, no corporate shilling during every time out. CDC is the best thing to happen to this athletic dept in a long time.

Watching the game on TV last night - you can actually hear the band really well on TV (can't remember if they moved the band to another part of the stadium). The atmosphere was electric, hopefully we can keep it up. I really think we have a home field advantage that can be sold to fans, recruits, etc.

I took this picture of the student section last night before kick off. I've never seen it that packed, that early! They totally brought it last night!

Except for that one time he offered to play aggy. That's the kind of stain that does not easily wash out.

They kept talking about a record crowd on TV but aerial shots seemed to show a lot of empty seats especially in the upper deck. Then, true to form of most Texas games, the lower west side deck looked mostly empty with around 5 minutes remaining.

So, was it full or not?

Hmm, not sure why that doesn't work, but it looked pretty damn full to me at the game.

    HC,

I was stunned at the size of the crowd. I'm on the West side, lower deck, so obviously I can't see the upper deck, but after the game was over the down ramp and escalators were packed; when I say packed, unlike I've seen but a couple of times in 48 years of the upper deck being there.

While I'm not sure I will ever like the moving of the student body, they are there an hour before kickoff, and were loud.

I'm not sure I have ever seen so many recruits and parents during warmups. You couldn't move in the South endzone.

I have a feeling that Bevo Blvd will expanded up to 23rd or 24th.

It’s so funny that we all are cheering the demise of the obnoxious weather report!

I completely agree that the environment was improved. It was last week, too, but with only about 80,000 people and a lackluster game, its was harder to tell.

As far as the West side leaving early, when you have left the house at 4 pm, and it is 11:30, and you either have impatient kids with you (and/or wife) or left them alone at home, and it’s a 4-TD game, and it’s clear we are not trotting out another QB, but rather running out the clock......and, if you leave now, it’s 45 minutes home, but if you wait for the Eyes of Texas, it’s well over an hour.....I guess you are saying I’m a terrible person?!

Ha no not saying that. I just like staying until the end.

I will admit that we leave in middle of fourth most games because we have to drive back to San Antonio and it truly sucks spending an hour to just get out of the garage if we stay for the Eyes.

I totally hear you! Going to the games takes up your entire Saturday, and sometimes that's ok, but three weekends in a row is really hard. Makes it feel like I only have one day to truly relax at home, but also get weekend errands done. And I don't even have kids!!
It's crazy just how much time staying until after The Eyes can add. Last night I stayed and didn't get home (North Austin) until about 12:15am.

    WH,

I have NEVER left a game early. Normally I can get out of the stadium and home to Houston in three hours, including a stop at Bucee's in Bastrop. Last night, however, Uber humped the puppy leaving tons of people stranded. There was a SC couple that was lost, and trying to get to the new Windham downtown. I offered to take them on my way out of town. Traffic (pedestrian and vehicular) was beyond awful. Got home at 4, but it as worth it, particularly when he tried to pay me; to see the look on his face when I told them, "Welcome to Texas, we do things like this for each other". He played ball at SC, but the wife looked at me, stuck up her hand, and said, "Hook em"

Stadium was full and was a great game day atmosphere inside and out. Definitely helped the team with the great energy. The team and fans need to keep this rolling.

Yes, they moved the band, down to the bottom of about Section 30 around the south 20 yardline (and it's about damn time). For too many years the LHB has been stuck back in Section 17 or 18 in the northeast corner. This struck a raw nerve with me on two occasions last year: the OK State game and the Texas Tech game. Both times, the visiting bands were situated in the east stands by the south endzone and could easily be heard by us in Section 103. The LHB, tucked away in the northeast corner, could hardly be heard at all. (by way of note, 35 years ago when I was at UT, the LHB was situated in the east stands around the north 20 yardline).
Oh, and when the Tech band visits DKR in 2019, I hope they get seated out on the LBJ lawn. It would serve them right for playing while we were signing The Eyes of Texas.

Putting the students and the Longhorn Band together in a big block was a brilliant, long overdue move.

This. It was great to see fans, students, Vince Young, Matthew McConaughey, the FA-18 pilots, more fans, etc. on the godzillatron this year ... and then turning the music off and letting the Longhorn Band be part of the game day experience again. Thank you, CDC!

Im usually guilty of this but this time we left the kids at home with the uncertainty of the weather so we stayed all they way through it until the field was clear for the most part. I sat in my seat and watched the end of the Canelo-GGG fight on my phone. Pretty sure that won’t happen next week but like someone said earlier 3 straight home games is rough with 2 little ones both in sports. But stayed in round rock for the night got out of the parking garage and up 35 pretty fast. Lot of upset usc fans as we managed to stay at the team hotel.

I guess I was watching a different game than you guys were. I remember CDC saying that they were going to do less canned music and make the experience more about the band. But there still was way too much canned music, and they even played canned music while the band was playing! And the volume on Godzillatron was still too loud.
I do think that there’s an improvement because the weather man is gone and we no longer have jet pack guy dropping in. But they were not enough replaced, and two many fan shots.

Would have expected nothing less from you Sabre. And those SC people will remember that. In 2006 when tOSU came in, I helped escort an elderly couple. (in other words our age) to their seats. The first thing they asked me was had I been at the Shoe the year before, because if so they wanted to apologize by how our people were treated. That it was nothing personal, that they just had the worst fans on earth.

It was annoying that some people starting leaving with 8:00 left in the 4th quarter. But there were still quite a few left at game's end to sing The Eyes of Texas

My seats are in Sec 16 and now that the band has moved we could barely hear them. I totally get that it's a better overall move for the atmosphere, but there were a few times when I couldn't tell exactly where we were in Texas Fight! :e-face-tears:

CDC is doing great, of course with Patterson setting as low a bar as possible he couldnt make things any worse so he came to perfect situation where things really could only go up. That said, I have been extremely impressed by him and even got to introduce myself to him before Tulsa game as he was walking around Bevo Blvd, as a long time Fort Worth resident I saw what he did at TCU and the sky is really the limit for what he can do in Austin.

No one will ever accuse them of being classy

I am headed to the Baylor game this weekend for my first game in a few years. Suggestions on getting to the game/Bevo Blvd with the new set up. I used to just find parking east of 35 and walk across on MLK

Why? Half the students can't hear most of the band now.

It was great, but let's not get carried away, it was no 2004 Oklahoma State game.

There have been a ton of loud moments. Not playing OU at home kind of harms the overall "impact" that some home games seem to have compared to the Red River Showdown, but here is a somewhat-comprehensive list of games that have seemed "loud" to me as far back as I have been attending games.

    UH 1990
    A&M 1990
    Colorado 1994
    Baylor 1994
    UVA 1995

    Tech 2003
    OK State 2004
    Neb 2007
    Mizzou 2008
    OK State 2008
    Tech 2009
    WVU 2012
    Cal 2015
