looks like the first round of cuts were made. Griner, Taurasi and Tiffany Hayes could also be added now that they are out of the WNBA playoffs. 2018 USA Women’s National Team Heads to New York with 15 Athletes
It didn't look for the USA when I had to switch to watching the UT FB game. Glad they pulled it out. Really enjoyed her game while she was in Washington and hoped to see her in person at SA. Hoping she makes the USA team.
I did on the one above. Before I was told how to embed tweets, the site would not let me include the tweeter. So I did not copy that part above. I will try including that info again next time I copy a tweet. Otherwise, I will just give credit to whoever posted/reposted the tweet.
Maybe I misunderstood you. I did copy the link to the tweet as shown on the options on Twitter on a VB post and it seems to work.
Glad to see EDD and Kelsey Plum make the team. I was surprised to see EDD playing instead of taking time of to heal. It is heavy on ex UConn players. Really can't argue with Bird or Taurasi. The others, depends on who is available. I have to figure that this tournament and the next Olympics are the last hurrah for Bird and Taurasi, leaving at least two spots open that are not automatically filled. Looking for Ariel to make a run for one of the spots for the 2022 World Games and 2024 Olympic rosters. 2018 USA Basketball Women’s World Cup Team Officially Unveiled 2018 USA Basketball Women’s World Cup Team # Name Pos Ht Wt Age 6 Sue Bird G 5-9 150 37 14 Tina Charles C 6-4 192 29 7 Layshia Clarendon G 5-9 140 27 11 Elena Delle Donne F/G 6-5 188 29 15 Brittney Griner C 6-9 205 27 4 Jewell Loyd G 5-11 150 24 13 Nneka Ogwumike F 6-2 188 28 5 Kelsey Plum G 5-8 145 24 10 Breanna Stewart F 6-4 170 24 12 Diana Taurasi G 6-0 164 36 8 Morgan Tuck F 6-2 200 24 9 A’ja Wilson F 6-5 197 22
Really like seeing the personality from Destiny. Last year had to be tough for a competitor like her - so glad she seems to have fought through it.
Still puzzled by Morgan Tuck’s selection. I know the World Cup Team isn’t as stacked normally as the Olympics squad but her selection is, to me, a head scratcher. She’s the 4th best forward on the Connecticut Sun. I’d also replace Clarendon - Vandersloot or Chelsea Gray come to mind considering Diggins-Smith couldn’t play.
Vandersloot, whom I had hoped would be the replacement for Bird, has an American-Hungarian background. She opted to get Hungarian citizenship and play for their national team after not being named to the USA 2016 Olympic team. At her age of 28, she decided to play for Hungary instead. Gray, iirc, decided not to participate in tryouts for the World Cup team. I don't have an issue with Tuck's selection. She is a pretty good solid player. The best option, maybe not, but she is willing to play, unlike some others that maybe should have been on the team ahead of her. Courtney Vandersloot now a part of Hungary’s national team program
Thanks for the info on Vandersloot - can’t really fault her considering her age and players in front of her at the time (Bird, Whalen). From the Sun, would’ve liked to have seen Jonquel Jones but I looked it up - maybe she and Lashann can elevate the Bahamian team over the next few years.
USA runs into this problem (lack of playing time together every time), both the men and the women, compared to the other teams. U.S. women sputter early, find way in FIBA rout
Ariel’s rookie season plays out very differently if Emma Meesseman doesn’t take the season off to prepare for the WC with the Belgian national team.

USA pulls out a tight win over China, 100-88. The old vets (Sue-11 mins & Diana-20 mins) and the recovering from injuries (EDD-4 mins) were limited in minutes played while Griner sat out her second game. Stewart (9-12 FGs, 2-2 treys and 3-4 FTs), Charles (7-12 FGs, 2-2 FTs) and Wilson (7-8 FGs and 6-6 FTs) led the USA with 23, 16 and 20 pts while each grabbed six rebs to tie for first in that category. Really hard for me to tell the difference between the flags of Belgium and France, if not that the middle stripe for Belgium is yellow and France's is white. The first stripe for France is a bit lighter than Belgium's, I think.
Mystics teammates face off - Delle Donne and Meesseman. Meesseman is a great story - born with 50% hearing loss, drafted in the 2nd round at age 19 and has become an All-Star. After the Mystics’ success this season, I’ve been wondering if Washington doesn’t see if they can move her for either a high draft pick or a more traditional center. She and Delle Donne are both stretch 4s and while Sanders played well at the center position, I have doubts about a player her size (6-3, 170) holding up consistently, especially with some very physical bigs in the upcoming draft.
