OK, so this is really not that big of a deal and just throwing this out there, but after rewatching the game several times it appears that mostly Gus was a bit one sided on the game call. I could post several video examples, but I feel the most damning proof came from the Bama fan I was watching the game with. He said, "It seems like the guys want are OU homers!"

Like I said, no big deal, but are we really that hateable? Is it because of the Longhorn Network?

IDK, '245. This SLATE headline (one of many similar) kind of offsets that idea...and Klatt has always been positive about this year's Longhorns team...

Some of it is. Deloss was a major player in the NCAA and college athletics for years and pretty much got whatever he thought was best for Texas. Other schools look at the way the program went down after Mack lost to Bama in 2010. There were some pretty dumb-*** decisions made as well upon Macks departure. But that appears to be changing for the better. We have a real AD in Chris Del Conte and my thoughts are he'll get things turned around with the athletics programs. Tom Herman's doing well with the Football program now, baseball is on the rise, so are the other men's and women's sports. CDC will get the money flowing in so we'll be back on top soon.

I can't count how many younger aggy grads I've talked to who were huge Texas fans that ended up at aggy because they "couldn't get into Texas." Last time I looked, the only two schools with more endowments than UT are Yale and Harvard. Most haters haven't figured out there is more to a school than football, or they never even went to college. I don't think much about them, unless they open their mouths and remove all doubt about them being stupid.

In short, no worries about jealous outsiders and the haters.

I thought Gus Johnson was pretty friendly to the Horns. I like his energy and enthusiasm.

In my opinion, he is one of the best in the business. I love his enthusiasm & how he escalates his tone with the big plays. He is also as articulate & professional as any announcer out there. I’ve never noticed any “homerism” in his delivery. I much prefer him & Klatt to the rank-in-file ESPN teams. Fox has a good thing going with those 2.

I did not see that one bit. And if you're taking a Bama fan's idea on what "bias" looks like, you definitely need to find another opinion.

I find myself agreeing with Klatt a lot more than other announcers. And that dude has every right to hate us (or especially Killebrew and Kelson from the 2005 team).

I thought that Brando and Tillman the week before against KSU were practically sending down carrier pigeons to Snyder with well-wishes. We usually get a couple of "Texas is favored so let's not say anything positive about them" games per season, and I think those two guys shot their orange-hating load all over the Wildcats. Even when they discussed the 0 penalties for KSU, it was all praise for Snyder for running a tight ship and not "hey maybe they've gotten away with 1 or 2..."

Johnson is fine. Klatt on the other hand, tries to be neutral, but at times reverts back to a Texas downer. My assumption is he is still suffering from the hit he took in the 2005 CCG.

i didn't like listening to them during the 21-point comeback. Murray is "lightning in a bottle," yada yada yada. They were creating the drama of a story that might unfold. It really bothered me because I didn't want to accept that possibility.

I thought the rest of the game was pretty balanced from them.

I think they were less "OU Homers" than Musburger used to be every year. Until our victory was certain, he would always think they their comeback was certain because they were the vaulted OU.

They disappointed on the last kickoff with 9 seconds left. Craig Way on the radio explained that an OU player was laying down in the endzone. The refs removed him from the game and said that a player must start a play standing. Gus and Joel never explained what was happening and acted confused when the player was removed. Also, the camera never showed it so a TV audience never knew what happened there.

One, Craig is an absolute pro, and has a great support staff. He's just better than most guys up there in terms of seeing the nuances of the game and generally being on the ball.

Two, in all fairness, he has a lot more leeway I think to look round and scan the field. I always wonder whether TV guys feel pressured to keep at least one eye on the monitor sometimes to make sure they don't miss something that everyone at home sees, making them look stupid.

Still remember a Raycom game with Frank Fallon and Dave Rowe, who granted weren't the brightest bulbs in the lamp to start with. Houston and Baylor were playing, and while a play comes to an end, Baylor clearly fumbles, there's a mad scramble for the ball, while Dave is talking about how the play developed. No one notices that the UH defense starts celebrating, waving the ball around, the teams switch over, and UH is lining up to run a play when Frank suddenly says "and apparently they've given Houston the ball..."

Texas has enrollment of 52K+/- with 42K undergrad and 10K post grad. Tamu has 68K with 53K undergrads at BCS main campus, 5K off campus 7K Graduate and 3K transfer. With 10K new freshman and 3.5K transfers each year the number of kids starting Tamu each year is almost double the UT freshman class size.
Texas has not increased enrollment at the 40 acres as significantly as Tamu has in the last decade. Transfer programs like Blinn Team give Tamu a huge enrollment advantage over Texas.

Do you recall what that meant? Surely they didn't remove him mid-play, and surely that doesn't mean they ejected him either?

No it didn't. A comeback doesn't matter if they lose. Kind of misses the point.

Seriously. You're going to argue that no comeback took place. Or even worse... that two paid broadcasters who are THERE TO KEEP PEOPLE WATCHING were COMPLETELY UNJUSTIFIED in saying that OU could still come back when down 21 points. I guess you're right because the fact that they erased the deficit only to lose in the final seconds PROVES CONCLUSIVELY THAT THEY NEVER COULD HAVE OR WOULD HAVE "COME BACK" and only a blatant OU homer would EVER think of suggesting it. I bet they wanted Texas to lose and they were hoping for a comeback just to laugh at us!

    :rolleyes1:

Even you admit that you didn't like hearing it "because you didn't want to accept the possibility." I guess they didn't get the memo that their job was to coddle fans who don't want to hear anything that might keep them from feeling 100 percent sure that their team was going to win.

I think it's laughable that you criticize them for calling Murray "lightning in a bottle" during a quarter in which he ripped off a 70-yard touchdown run that completely changed the game.

They removed him before the play. I remember one of the announcers mentioning it right before the kick, but they never said why.

Not a problem. It helped that I heard the radio first then went back with the TV announcers. Couldn't believe they missed that.

Maybe it is harder to be a TV announcer than a radio announcer. It seems that Craig Way is light years ahead of whoever calls the game on TV whether it is FOX, ABC, CBS, ESPN, etc. Does Craig have it easier or is he just superior?

The player was removed prior to the play starting. Riley had a chance to argue his case. I did see the TV camera show him signaling towards the ground. The player was not ejected just sent to the sidelines.

No, I'm saying you missed my point. Lol

I'm saying the broadcasters were pretty balanced all game, in my opinion. And that the only time they seemed not to, was when they began to be dramatic about the comeback, creating a story line that could culminate in an OU win (which didn't occur). But my point was that was the only time they didn't seem all "fair and balanced." The comeback failed, insofar as we won, but that wasn't my point. This is what I'm saying. If you want to say OU had a successful comeback, that's your opinion. It just wasn't my point.

Oh for crying out loud. There obviously was a remarkable comeback,,,,just not a comeback win. Thank you Dicker, et al.

I think Craig is just superior - he's far better than most other radio guys too.

Weird, they didn't just make him stand up, they made him leave the field? So did OU only have 10 guys out there for the kickoff?

I think these guys are good. Klatt does a very objective job with Texas considering the 70-3 mudholing in 2005. I thought they were very balanced. I will say, however, that at one of the commercial breaks Gus was sort of making fun of the color crimson. He said something like "Is that a real color?".

Did you watch the Hagar interview after the game. He even mentioned the comeback and how it felt good to be on the winning side of the last minute field goal. Gus Johnson sure sounded very excited for Texas and Dicker the Kicker after the field goal was made. I think with the exception of Craig Way all broadcasters do that. They play to the excitement of the momentum. You can tell that from how Klatt and Johnson started the game after OKs first touchdown and how they ended with Dicker’s Field goal.

Not too impressed with Joel. Just one example... He gave no credit to BJ for breaking up the late game pass to? OU receiver. Said the receiver shouldnhave caught it when in fact, BJ broke it up. Seems petty on my part, perhaps yes.

That wasn't mentioned. My guess is a different player was allowed in the game. All this happened well before Texas actually kicked.

I thought Johnson’s biblical reference right before the Dicker kick, “A Child Shall Lead,” was epic.
