TCU sure is okay tricking up their stuff. If he was a part of that, I'm glad he left it there.

I would rather see them play at home in the Stormtrooper Whites than go for that “dark horn” nonsense.

That actually would be interesting. I thought about what it would be like for us to play in the road whites at home one game. Not sure what the reason would be, but I could see it being a white-out game if they publicized it and got the crowd to show up in white. But we can't call it "white-out" day because everyone does that.

I'd call it Stormtrooper Saturday or something.

The Penn State White Out with the Pom-Poms is pretty impressive. But I wouldn’t want us to be copycats. Stormtrooper Satueday has a nice ring to it.

Doesn't the visiting team have to approve any uniform color changes? I think it was game 2 of this season that U of H denied Tech wearing all white to celebrate the cotton industry. Is it a ncaa rule?

How about we call it White Pride day? I'm sure that would get a lot of attention! :D

Based on my time at the Texan, I'm a little surprised someone hasn't written an article about how the white road uniforms are a symbol of oppression and need to be banned. Actually since I haven't read it in decades, maybe that's happened and everyone just ignored it...

Stormtrooper white was the last time we won the MNC. I love those uniforms.

I've long thought our first game of the season should a home game, 2:30 PM kickoff, against a team from way up north that wears dark colors (Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Minnesota, Washington, UConn). Wear whites at home, make them wear dark colors, and watch them wilt.

Sad thing is that in this climate, someone will inevitably claim that had racially-motivated overtones (because of the historical pre-Star Wars connotations).

I would rather see them play in banana-hammocks than candy the uniforms up with any of this nonsense!!

Stormtrooper whites and standard home unis are all we need.

I seem to remember (could be wrong) that DKR put the longhorn on our helmets.
If you want change, get rid of the *** black socks. I can live with black shoes.

I like the 1983 uniforms. Maybe I just really liked our defense running onto the field in those uniforms.

Not a fan of the black shoes. We should have burned them all after the '91 Cotton Bowl and never mentioned their existence again.

Yeah, the "Akers". Took the plain Texas unis that only had two stripes on the jersey sleeves, added two stripes down the pants, two stripes on the socks. White shoes with black soles that were visible on the sides.

Back then, no "Texas", no "Big XII", no Nike swoosh, no other crap making the uniform look like a NASCAR entry.

Best modeled by the Texas D and of course one Earl Christian Campbell, some photos here:

I still think Earl inadvertently was the father of the Stormtrooper Whites. He wore those sheer white anti-embolism stockings, sometimes just on the right leg, sometimes on both (I think later in the season on both --- see the photos of him against ND and eAtMe at the link above).

My theory is that if he would put those embolism stockings on first, the cotton uni stockings would sag and droop as the game progressed --- putting the cotton uni sock on first kept them up by the embolism stockings --- BUT, it made Earl in the "whites" look all Stormtrooperish. Also, Star Wars IV (the first) was released in May 1977, the spring of Earl's senior year, the first year of the "Akers." Just sayin'.

Whether Earl and/or his trainers did that on purpose or not, just look at the photos and decide for yourself.

Both Earl and the Texas D were super fast on the field anyway, but the "whites" back them gave an illusion of being even faster. Me rikey, me rikey a rot!!

P.S., I noted after posting this that to get the Earl photos to display you need to click on the very bottom "Follow on Pinterest" otherwise clicking on the photo array takes you elsewhere.

You are correct - DKR made this change in either 1959 or 1960.

Maybe we should wear pink uniforms and that way it's less offensive.

Pink on a football uniform is offensive to me. I opine there are very few people not aware of cancer and seriously doubt putting pink on a football uniform would actually make more people aware.

Interestingly enough, mom agrees with you about the pink, albeit for a different reason...she questioned why the focus has been only on breast cancer and why not attempting to raise awareness/funds for ALL manner of cancer research and treatment. She also noted that the pink often worn by teams was not even the same pink that the breast cancer campaigns typically use...

    But we digress...

And back to the topic at hand...Texas should keep the uniform simple even if all of the changes DO increase revenue streams. We are Texas...we shouldn't be playing follow the leader on how to screw up a good thing. We should BE the leader at keeping things traditional. If the recruits cannot respect tradition, then perhaps they should be looking at other programs...they should want to be here because they want to win, not because they get eleventy million different uniform combinations...

If you want to make people aware of breast cancer put tits on the helmet. That would get my attention.

Because football players need more opportunities to grab boobs in public and get called out for sexual harassment.

    Dear Bobby Jones @bobby_jones77,
Thanks for your question! There is no such thing as a "dark horn" uniform. You just made that up, and it sucks taint. To be clear, there is less than a zero % chance. (Same odds of you being an alum, with these dumbass ideas.)

(Good thing I am not the AD.)

longhorn logo was added in 1961; burnt orange returned in 1962; bright orange stripe was removed that year. i think Rooster Andrews designed logo and was responsible for it.
