Is that a prediction or is something really in the works?

Mack still has a few years of coaching so this wouldnt surprise me. I always figured he would end up at Army or a place like that to finish out his career. At some point we need to put up a statue of him at DKR, second greatest coach in Texas history and gave us one NC and nine straight ten plus win seasons. Undeniably a Texas legend.:hookem:

Chizik was DC at UNC 2015-16.

    Hmmm.

Has there ever been a major program HC with a national championship ring and his DC with a a matching ring of the HC's ring, plus a separate head coaching national championship ring? An edit on this point: Chizik has no ego to stroke; he's won one already as an HC.

I saw Chizik on a panel last night, IIRC commenting/analyzing the aggy/LSU game. He really looked intense in his good comments, as if he was talking to his defensive players during halftime.

Thought, this guy's too young to hang it up. Apparently stepped out of coaching to be closer to family. But, if Mack calls him up and: "Hey, Gene, this is Mack. Want to win another one? Let's show 'em how it's done big guy" might be hard to resist.

Unless they plan on handing things over to kliff in a few years in hopes Mack can build it back up I don’t think I’d take Mack

With the "master recruiter, HC politician extraordinaire" at the top, Chizik as DC and Coach Bro as OC...look out Dabo and Nick.

Jimbo got outta Dodge in the nick of time.

Mack, Chizik and Bro could seriously be a potent team

Not sure it would negatively affect Appalachian State's (where Mack also coached, at Boone, NC) recruiting, but could seriously suck to be the Wofford Terriors down in South Carolina if Mack goes back to UNC.

I have no feelings of sympathy at all for those scruffy little wannabee aggy Terriers.

really?!?!? was such a nice positive weekend, devoid of nonsense and you have to go bringing those damned w-sips into the mix?

Sorry, was kind of hoping the w-sips might be snooping around and was trying to add to their angst, maybe get them to scratching their mangy hides even more.

    4th_floor Dude, where's my laptop?

If that actually comes to pass, I think NC will be a formidable team in a few years.

Mack had great Tar Heel teams but couldn't beat Florida State. Now Clemson has taken over the ACC. Heck of a recruiter but I feel he needs to stay in the booth to preserve his legacy. No need to show the world why you were shown the door at Texas....

i agree with the "legacy." But sometimes a man needs to work. he needs to do what he does. it's not "preserving," but it is what he needs to do. i'm ok with that.

I hear you but I fear his prime has passed and the fire necessary to compete left a few seasons ago....and now he has to relate to 18-23 year old players …..more power to him but I think he's probably got enough $ from his time at Texas (unless he somehow shot his wad) and doesn't need the $.....thus the dignity reference....

Their fanbase seems to be split
The last 2 years have been very bad, but they went 11-3 as recently as 2015
