PS..............I'd have to admit it but this would be pretty effin' cool to get to meet and talk to the Kid and the Yankee Clipper.

This was pretty cool -- GHWB's Secret Service detail all shaved their heads in support of one of the agent's son who was battling cancer
    So did the President
    The boy is still alive

I really liked his response to the 1990 recession. He basically let the economy recover on it own. But you couldn't find a person deeper entrenched in the deep state than GHWB.

The media brutalized him, often lying. Them plus Perot begat the Clintons.
Then he said he voted for Hillary and the media suddenly loved him

The media brutalized him for the things I liked and cheered him for the bad things he did.

“...a poll of D.C. reporters in 1992, 89% voted for Bill Clinton, with only 7% voting for GHWB.”

    Joe started the thread
Joe took the time to make several solid posts before anyone else weighed in
Joe posted some great stories, many nice photos, plus a few historical tidbits

Perspective does matter, but when your starting point is your head that far up your own butt, your focus tends to be very narrow indeed. You only see that little sliver of life that you see, and miss the rest. It's like you are your own special form of Plato's man in a cave.

Speaking of how the media treated GHWBush back in the day, here is future President Bush handling Dan Rather

My dad went to school with Dan Rather, and he told me Rather was very unpopular, that no one liked him. Rather seemed to have that chip on his shoulder his entire adult life

It depends on what you mean by "the young men." If you mean those who have already volunteered for service, they would answer the call and fight just as valiantly as President Bush and Senator Dole did. I interact with these guys every day. They're great Americans. Furthermore, they're tough and brave.

The breakdown would be in the ordinary citizen. WWII was a massive undertaking that required conscription of regular men into military service. Would a mess if hipsters from Austin and beach bums from Santa Barbara put down their weed and fight like the gritty sons of coal miners, steelworkers, and farmers? I doubt it.

I entered the USAF the year of the Perot factor ... but was commissioned under 41. Thankful for that.

A respectable man who wasn't always right about policy, but his integrity was intact .. a remarkable feat for a man who was in politics as long as he was (incl CIA Director).

NBC's documentary with 43's daughter, Jenna Sat night was very well done.
