I have never had In-n-Out but lots and lots of Whataburgers. Interested to hear what people think.

Could there be that much of a difference?

I think the only appeal for In&Out (outside of the decent taste) is the "hidden menu" that Californians brag out. Ordering something animal style doesn't necessarily mean it's better. Ordering fries well done is a better option than getting soggy Whataburger fries, but that's more of a crap shoot.

Whataburger just has more options and consistency with the burger quality. The favorites menu is better than anything In&Out has to offer.

Just the fact that Whataburger offers an array of food options is a big plus for me. While I definitely enjoy a good burger, the Whatachicken, patty melt, and breakfast items are all fantastic.

That said, I would like to try an In-N-Out burger at least once in my life.

In-N-Out animal style is a great afternoon option in Vegas.

No complaints about In n Out from my Vegas days, but Whataburger's better - if nothing else, more options unless you count off-the-menu. And even then, Whataburger has breakfast tacos.

    Plus, Whataburger fries are better.

AND... Whataburger lets you use cheddar cheese. (Or they did, anyway.)

Both are far superior to ordinary fast food burgers. I think I like the Inn and Out better just because I always forget to tell them to leave out some of the cheese on the Monterrey melt at Whataburger. It's good, but with both kinds of cheese and two beef patties it's just too much heavy food in each bite. I know I could go home and scrape off some cheese ... but when I order fast food I want convenience.

In and Out Burger is OK, if you find yourself in California. The only thing notable about it was the fries, and I think it had good shakes.
But this is Texas, Jack, and in Texas you go to f'n Whataburger. Them interlopers need to git back where they came from.

Nothing cures hangovers better than a double/double from Whataburger. Besides, if it is good enough for Sandy Duncan it is good enough for me. [IMG]

If you like bacon, go with Whataburger. If you don't, wtf, cull yourself.

I tried In n Out many years ago in California and it is nothing special. The "Animal" style is quite unpleasant to me, whether it is your fries or burger, it is just not good at all in my opinion. I'm not a yellow mustard fan, so when requested to try it again with the meat grilled with it, it did not help their cause.

The fries were good at the Beverly Hills In an Out Burger at 2 a.m. after the USC Rose Bowl, my only trip to that business ever, but maybe fried tennis shoe soles would have tasted great at that particular time.

Had In-N-Out in California. Liked it. But, dude, Whataburger gets my vote. Double cheeseburger w/ jalapenos and a side of rings.
    Good times.

Does In N Out have a sausage breakfast on a bun?!

I believe Inn & Out's shakes and fries are far superior. I love Inn & Out's double with the grilled onion, just like it is.

What a burger is good though, but for me I prefer cheese burger, fries and Shake all together. I actually like What a burger for the breakfast items better, then the dinner.

In & Out is just another decent fast-food burger spot. Nothing bad, but the "best ever and no other burger can possibly compare" fanboy crowd it has perplexes me.

Agree with Statalyzer. I always said that if Short Stop had In&Out's marketing, they would be just as big.

Whataburger blows In&Out into the weeds IMO. I don't think I&O wants any part of a fight with Whataburger. They are not in Whataburger's league and would take an ***-kicking.

Here in Austin, I would say that I&O is closer to P. Terry's overall, but I don't want to send my money to those CA flakes, so I choose P. Terry's.

If I need to get my "secret menu" jollies, I will go to Torchy's.

Went to in-n-Out a couple weeks ago for the first time. Don't plan on returning. Two thin patties on a double? Not enough meat on the thing. But I've always been partial to Little Red Wagon up in Round Rock

Sorry, but this cowboy thinks In-N-Out is a little overrated and full of themselves. Whataburger kicks their *** on most menu items IMHO.

In a similar vein, I don't get all the fanboy love for Krispy Kreme donuts. Never mind Lone Star (aka Round Rock Donuts), hell, HEB makes a better donut than KK.

In-N-Out is an upgraded McDonald's. When I was stationed in LA in the Spring I was known to drive to Phoenix on Thursday after getting off work; catch 2 Cactus League games and 4 meals at Whataburger.

Off topic but freddy's steak burgers are awesome. If I throw in their fries, it might be my favorite place.

Not a huge fan of Freddys burgers because the Patty's are paper thin. Not a bad burger, but much better than In n Out. Fries are way better.

Freddy’s burgers are good, I like the patty melt too. The chocolate malt is excellent.

Donuts were mentioned earlier - KK are good, but Shipley's are the best IMHO.

The Shipley's 'factory' is just down the street from my Houston office...suffice it to say, I also find the donuts they sell a block away to be better than several other locations.

    BWAHAHAHA!

Crockett, you're not the "worst" in left field, but this sums the problem with the political left (I know this isn't West Mall, bear with me) ... I missed the bus ... vice the bus left me! I messed up but it's still your fault.

Anyhow ... to the OP ...

Whataburger HANDS DOWN. Not even close. Smash(mouth) burger is the closest to the Texas built orange/white tent table franchise burger. Five guys is pretty good.

    In/Out ... I'm OUT. If that's all there is, I'll have something else ... burrito/taco/chicken/pizza ...

S Ft. Worth RAVED when that I/O arrived. I tried it about 6 months/so after it opened. I even tried it again a couple months later.

    NOT
    A
    FAN

The only good thing about I/O is it keeps the less "burger woke" from twice wrapping the line at Whataburger.
