    AND 10 - 15% for everyone up to 75K
    Hmmm
"Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez sat with Anderson Cooper for an upcoming 60 Minutes interview set to air this Sunday, a portion of which has been released as a promotion. In the released segment, Ocasio-Cortez reveals how exactly she suggests paying for the environmental agenda known as the “Green New Deal” — with remarkably higher tax rates for the super wealthy.

Ocasio-Cortez suggests in the clip that in her esteem, people should be doing more to pay their “fair share.” When Cooper pressed on how she could possibly pay for the deal, she pointed to the progressive tax rate system in the 1960s, explaining that if you earn 0 to $75,000 a year, you would only pay 10% or 15% in income tax.

    She continued:

“But once you get to the tippie tops, on your $10 millionth, sometimes you see tax rates as high as 60% or 70%. That doesn’t mean all $10 million are taxed at an extremely high rate. But it means that as you climb up this ladder, you should be contributing more.”

Cooper replied that she was proposing a “radical agenda.”

“If that’s what radical means, call me a radical,” she said.

Wonder what Cooper thought of paying 70%?

We already have a House member saying "we're going to impeach that ************" and another that introduces a bill that eliminates the Electoral College. The stupidity has just started I'm afraid.

And Democrat voters are saying they are glad that the adults have shown back up to Congress with such mature policies and rational thinking.

AOC even said that she will use the money to start a 'green new deal' that will heal the economic and racial wrongs in our society. Scary times.

Oh wow. Amazing that a western educated adult can be this foolish. As I am often reminded, intelligence and education are not the same thing.

To me it's the emotional maturity factor. We are dealing with nouveaux power. They have arrived with chips on their shoulders, anger, narcissism, unbridled egomania and emotional impairment bent on revenge. I can't tell if they are trained to cater to the bitter element in our society or if they actually believe this stuff. But when you act as if wealth of the "rich" is yours to do with as you like then you are a very dangerous person.

They say we get the politicians we ask for. I'm hoping this is only a pendulum swing and not a permanent mega-trend. This is why I's so frustrated with Trump's tweets and bombast. He is creating the forum for these extremists just as the Left's extremists may have created the climate for him.

These people will only laugh and mock anyone who questions them. They will only become louder, more shrill and more reckless. They consider the Constitution to be not only a nuisance but also the equivalent of the Confederate States Constitution. They have whipped themselves into a moral frenzy that justifies a political mob. They hate us and they will continue to accelerate their efforts to do whatever it is they want.

When you say things like "Believe the woman" or "Climate change deniers are murderers" then you are forced to defend yourself in a forum that will only declare you guilty for not agreeing with them. Your objections are all the evidence they need.

The left has basically lost any sense of reality. We're dealing with people who think a wall doesn't work but sanctuary cities do work.

So far NO Dem has commented on the fact that OAC is proposing EVERYONE pay taxes.
"if you earn 0 to $75,000 a year, you would only pay 10% or 15% in income tax."
Right now 45.3% pay zero tax
How are those people going to feel about that?

I am glad to see her say that. Good for Cortez, someones gotta pay for the Dept Trump is putting us in, now they get to pay for it (hopefully). As for the wall, not gonna work, very dumb idea and a waste of money. Most people just overstay their visa, now some people are flying into Canada and walking over that border that doesnt even have a fence. Wasnt Mexico supposed to pay for it anyway, what happened to that ( just another lie).

I loved her college dance and she kinda looked hot with that red lipstick and those large hoop earrings.

I almost wonder if AOC had the dance video put out. By any measure, it made her look good or at worst neutral. The "dumbness factor" comes entirely from what she says. Nothing in that video reinforces that or has any bearing on it.

This could easily fit into the thread called "What is Socialism?" Given the current mood, I think we are going to see a wave of these type of proposals

For a timely example, Nassau County, NY (extremely liberal) just proposed a 25% property tax increase. If passed (something they say is likely), this would force many homeowners to sell. One homeowner there posted what the effect would be on his tax statement. It's looks staggering.

Now imagine what 70% on income would do. It sounds crazy but it could happen

What effect though would a 10% tax on every income earner be? I can't understand why the hundreds of millions this would affect are not whining.
There are far more people at the bottom than there are at the tippey top.
Is MSM deliberately not commenting on that?
is it more click worthy to write about taxing the evil rich?

If Congress can’t slightly increase the payroll tax to fund SS and Medicare, how will they pass this? For example, increasing the SS withholding from 6.2% to 8% mostly funds SS for the future. Yet, who wants to be responsible for increasing the payroll tax (which hits all workers at all income levels) by approx 2% points?

Once again, @JoeFan puts his creative sphincter to good use. It’s truly awe-inspiring — almost Trumpian.

Nassau County’s assessor is proposing to reassess every property in the county to remedy gross disparities in valuation. This would cure the fact that some taxpayers overpay and others underpay. It would change each individual taxpayer’s share of the overall tax burden, but would have absolutely no impact on the overall tax levy. Here’s a link to the assessor’s official explanation. Lots of other articles are easy to find.

There are a couple of practical problems with the assessor’s plan. First, she wants to phase the reassessments in over 5 years. This would be unfair to owners unlucky enough to be reassessed in the earlier years. Thus, she has proposed a transitional cap to smooth out the impact.

Second, state law caps assessment changes at 6% per year and 20% over 5 years. Many properties are undervalued by way more than 20%. Thus, the assessor is proposing a legislative workaround.

The 25% figure @JoeFan quotes as a “tax increase” is nothing of the sort. It is the proposed “level of assessment”, which is the target ratio between home value and tax rate — i.e. a $500,000 home gets assessed at $125,000. The same ratio is used for every property, so if every property is updated regularly, the ratio makes no difference. (In New Jersey, we call this the equalization ratio, but it’s the same thing.)

Note that the cropped photo @JoeFan uses probably shows much of this. It conveniently cuts off the left column, which presumably shows why this hypothetical property owner’s taxes would increase, as well as the bottom row showing the transitional cap protection.

And yet, only the leftist media lies.

It looks like a big increase in the tax bill to me, as I think it would to the majority of homeowners, even ones in Nassau County. Enough to force some to sell their homes. You sound like you are perhaps a lifetime renter? If so, maybe you are not familiar with the dread of getting those tax statements in the mail (I challenge the assessment every time, fwiw). But even if you are, you would still feel it. All stuff rolls downhill.

Yeah, so, a bill was passed in the House. But it could not clear the 60-vote threshold in the Senate because ... no Democrats would vote for it.

And with Pelosi at the helm, stupidity will become the feature of the day. We can only hope that the electorate will realize their error of the 2018 mid-terms and correct that error in 2020.

Stupidity became the feature of the day when 45 took office. Every single day, even his own party thinks so. You must be blind and deaf to not realize this, not that being blind or deaf is a bad thing.

I am neither blind nor deaf (not that being blind or deaf is a bad thing). But I am seriously concerned about the future of our country - the Democrats have moved far left, and seem to be intent on turning our country into the United Socialist States of America. Many of them seem to view the Constitution as a bar to their "progressive" agenda. When I was commissioned in the Air Force, I took an oath to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic." The Constitution is the supreme law of our country, and the Democrats seem determined to bend it to their agenda - and that is the height of stupidity.

As for "45" (President Trump), he was not my choice for the Republican nomination in 2016. But he became the nominee - and when it came down to a choice between him and Hillary Clinton, I chose Trump. I did not consider Hillary a viable alternative. And I bet I'm not the only Republican who did that.

True. To someone who has gotten away with underpaying taxes for many years, fixing the system would feel like a tax increase. On the flip side, for the person who has been overpaying year in and year out, fixing the system would feel like a tax cut. In both cases, reconciling appraisals with actual values would be the right thing to do.

Typical @JoeFan. When caught lying, he deflects with irrelevant information. Or, in this case, disinformation.

That is one example of how appraisals get out of whack. Taxpayers file an appeal even if they have no case that their property is over-appraised. Rather than fight the appeal, the government settles by giving a small reduction. This gets repeated year upon year, and the compounded reductions eventually cause the property to be grossly undervalued. These abusive taxpayers think they are getting one over on the government, but really they are getting one over on their neighbors.

Fortunately, my local government is aggressive about pinning appraisals to actual value. They don't settle appraisal appeals unless the taxpayer makes a compelling case.
