Keep in mind that Moro is only 12 years old. He has room to grow.

Another possible grad transfer DT is Zach Abercrumbia (6'2,286) from Rice. Originally from Dallas Skyline.

OMG!!! Do I want Ealy. The kid was dominant in the UA game, and I mean dominant.

For me, prototypical: Smallish, strong, quick, fast, and he can see the holes. Good hands too.

Hope we are full court pressing him.

I'd like to be disheartened by losing out on RBs. But the way that the game is trending, unless you're Wisconsin or something, you don't need the every-down backs to win. Heck, we showed that in 2008-09, yet Brown's refusal to admit that's where we should have been heading caused us to slip back into offensive mediocrity with the "let's be Alabama" model with Malcolm Brown and Johnathan Gray.

D'Onta Foreman was a great player for us, but we lost to Kansas with him. Tre Watson was the #27 RB in the country when he was recruited, and he performed better in the Sugar Bowl than UGA's backs because of how he was used.

We need to be focused on the coaching and getting the all-purpose kind of guys who can evolve into situational players.

Speaking of running backs, over the weekend I corralled my son (22 years old and not very interested in football at all) into watching this video. He was blown away. He even mentioned it to me the next day.

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

    From TFB --
... three names that came up consistently when talking to people at the practices.

Grayson (GA) cornerback Kenyatta Watson has had a really nice week in Orlando at the UA game. Watson is a Top 150 player nationally, but there’s a bit of a discrepancy between the recruiting platforms and his ranking. Watson is a 6’2 corner with a ton of athletic ability, that’s what has people very impressed down in Orlando.

The other two are down in San Antonio for the Army game. The first name isn’t surprising to hear is Westlake (CA) linebacker De’Gabriel Floyd. At 6’2 240, one person told me “this dude is a perfect MIKE in the Big 12, look at the production Kenneth Murray has had at OU. Floyd will be the same.” If you don’t remember, Murray was a guy who some might be a little bit undersized to play inside linebacker in some conferences. But with the speed and pace in the Big 12, he’s been a perfect fit.

The last one is Plano East (TX) safety Tyler Owens. Like Watson, Owens is a tall defensive back at 6’2. The biggest difference is that Owens looks much more ready to play from a physical standpoint, as he’s already over 200 pounds. A guy who didn’t get a lot of press during his recruitment due to his late rise. But he’s getting a lot of national love this week. He runs a 10.34 100 meter dash, and he will hit you. Lots of good noise about Owens in San Antonio last week.

Barton Simmons spent some time on an aggy board for a Q&A. The natives were, of course, unhappy that 247 has Texas' safety class ranked higher as a group than the aggy S class

BON on Lakia Henry, the #1 JUCO ILB --

In the immediate aftermath of Henry’s decision, he said in an interview that he’s still interested in Texas, along with schools like Arkansas, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Texas A&M, and UCLA. Even more interestingly, Texas was the first school that Henry named on that list.

No. 1 JUCO ILB Lakia Henry still has interest in Texas

He needs to say that to keep up appearances on his OV’s. This is Bru McCoy in reverse.

Maybe it's just me, but it looks like Jake has gotten "thicker", particularly in the lower body over his junior film. Still maintaining his speed and quicks, though. Has to help as he moves to the rigors of the next level.

247 says JUCO LB Lakia Henry is down to Piggy, Ole Miss and Texas. He has already OVd to Pigpen and will OV to Ole Miss Jan 26. We are in the process of verifying the grades.

Would be an excellent get at a position of need.

We have filled LB needs pretty well recruiting but you don't give up on the national #3 juco.

An argument can be made that JUCOs and now, thanks to the new rules, Grad Transfers are the way to go for now and forward. Think of some of the sunk costs of some of Mack Brown's last classes or any of Charlie's. With some of those guys, I felt like constantly checking my watch to see how long before we could jettison the dead weight.

One big downside, however, is it puts off taking a chance on filling a key hole and is thus a bit of a gamble. However, it is now easier than ever to land JUCOs/GTs. Compare this to taking the chance on a 4-star OL, for example, who will take up a scholarship for 4 years, possibly even more. Let's say you put 2 years of work into him first before ever thinking of letting him play and then he can't play. Or can play but leaves early. Transfers have less uncertainty with regard to how good they are and need less time to get them ready.

With the way our current staff thinks through these things, I just think we are going to be seeing more of this, not less.
