These rankings are screwed up, imo. Much as I don't care for them, why isn't Louisville #1, since they are the only good team still undefeated? UConn handled ND pretty easily and Baylor beat UConn solidly, yet ND is #1 and UConn is still ahead of Baylor. Doesn't make sense to me. How did we get ahead of Tennessee? We have the same record and they beat us. Rankings aren't important, but these seemed somewhat illogical to me.

You're right, polls don't really matter, but the rankings are fairly accurate IMO. As far as Tennesses goes, they were ranked 2-3 spots ahead of us until this week. It isn't just head to head but also who you've won and lost against. Both Horn losses were to top ranked teams, and the Vols just lost to un-ranked Missouri, and so are just a few spots below us this week. As far as # 1 there are four teams splitting the votes, and not a lot of difference between the four with respect to total ranking points.

The pollsters are always able to figure out who the #1 team is after the last game is played.

Meltdowns on the OU and Tenn boards after the losses. A bit of déjà vu reading those boards. :smile1:

What board do you read of Tennessee? Do you pay for it?

I read the OU board after Babhorn mentioned it. My goodness, what a scorching of Sherri Coale. It almost made me want to defend her.

Absolutely. As I told the other poster the Oklahoma fans say the exact same things about Coale that many of us say about Coach Aston. And Tennessee fans have continued to do the same with Holly and in her case rightfully so. Texas and Tennessee get too good of players for the Coaching to be sub par like it’s been.

I don't really get folks complaining about certain lineups, or players (Collier) they feel should be playing more minutes. Or less as the case may be. I think our staff has done a pretty stellar job this season, considering the adjustments they've had to make, and issues they've had to contend with. For instance Charli has played in 13 of 15 contests, and started one thus far. She is averaging over 15 mpg, along with 7.1 pts and 4.4 rbs. Contrast that with #1 recruit Cox's freshman season at BU, where she averaged just 13.4 mpg, also starting one game, with season totals of 7.7 pts and 4.1 rbs per contest. And that was a for a full season, whereas as I expect Chari's numbers to continue to rise as the year progresses. Yeah, I did wonder why we didn't see her in the first half vs. WVU, when our other posts were struggling, but we made the necessary adjustments at the break, and came away with a tough road win. And scored 48 points in the second half I might add. WVU plays a very physical game, and Charli leads the team in fouls while coming at just 8th in minutes played per contest. I trust this staff to make the right decisions based on all of the information they have at hand, much of which the rest of us aren't privy to anyway. Overall we're sitting at 13-2, with two winning streaks of 7 and 6 games respectively. We're 3-0 in conference whereas 7 of 10 league teams already have two or more losses. Sure, we've let some teams make late runs in games we had well in hand, but we withstood the storm and came away with the win. No question we're a work in progress, but I like that progress, and what I'm seeing from this team and staff this season. I'm an optimist but will be the first to admit I was more than a little worried when we lost Lashann early on. To lose our leading scorer, and one of the most dynamic guards in the country, on top of already losing one of our top recruits to injury, not to mention the loss of Joyner due to surgery, and I didn't really expect this team to make the necessary adjustments as readily (though not always smoothly) as they have. In addition to all of the above, we were starting a new PG for the first time in four years, and lost four of five starters from the previous season. Simply losing two All-Americans like Ariel and Brooke at the same time would have been a cause of concern, but add in all the rest of it, and I am thrilled with how far we've come just 15 games into the season. No doubt we still have a lot of talent, but given all of the losses, and attendant adjustments, it takes time to put all of the pieces together. But that's what we've been doing, and here we are a top 10 team, undefeated in conference play, and working as fast and furiously as we know how to get this team where it should be. We know there are gong to be both good and bad games ahead, and the occasional setback or ugly loss, but I trust this staff to keep us moving in the right direction. We'll turn the ball over more than we should at points, make some bad decisions, and let a few teams make runs they shouldn't, but I believe we're going to keep getting better. I fully expect this team to be as dangerous as any in the country by the time post-season play rolls around. No doubt if we don't get the job done in Ames we'll have the obvious few ready to pounce on staff and players alike, but for now I'm going to give credit where it's due. I love this team, and think the staff has done a pretty fantastic job thus far. Let's keep it moving!

And as much as I like Coale and know that she is an excellent strategist and game coach... If she continues to struggle with recruiting or cannot find an assistant who can boost it for her, then it just MIGHT BE time for OU to to go a different direction.

As they SHOULD be! Like another poster on this forum once said about Holly, she's the only coach in America that's better at doing less with more than Aston.

Since Coale is such an excellent strategist, what was her strategy in not setting up screens for her best shooter, Robertson, to get open? Danni did a excellent job of face guarding Robertson the entire game. I'm terrible at X's and O's but even I was asking myself why there weren't designed plays to get Robertson open. If that were Aston, Hornfans would crash from the outrage.

I actually like Coale and in my opinion, she has a foundation of young players that can win a lot of games over the next 2-3 years. If she can add a few players with height, OU will be okay.

    Happy 2019 @brnkj :beertoast:

The board I used to follow back when I started posting on Hornfans is now behind a paywall.

I follow VolNation which picked up steam after the first one went private ($$).

Happy New Year to you too!

Not THAT much you can do about total face-guarding except hope to take advantage of it from another spot on the floor not drawing so much attention. Especially when you are undermatched in athleticism. Let us not forget... OU missed a wide open layup that would've tied the game in the 4th qtr and then a wide open three that would have out them ahead soon thereafter. I agree Coale has a solid group of youngsters who she will most likely turn into a really good team (knowing her). But when you compare the talent and experience level on both rosters, the fact they weren't being blown out by us at that stage in the game speaks volumes about Coale's coaching prowess as well as Aston's ineptitude. Just my opinion though...

Must speak volumes about UConn's Geno as well since they were actually losing in the fourth quarter.

Hopefully we'll get to play UConn again this season to see how Geno and Karen match up. Even though we've yet to beat them, I feel she's done a good job against him.

Super recruit Jordan Horston will arrive next season. If Holly gets another season, it will be interesting to see if the addition of Horston can translate to more wins for Tennessee. There must be a lot of pressure in Knoxville to get the team back on track and winning games this season.

Jordan is a phenomenal player but it’s not like Tennessee has a gaping hole at the 3 - Rennia Davis is very good (14.7 ppg, 8.7 rpg) and is just a sophomore. Jordan could take over senior G Meme Jackson’s spot and it would make the Vols incredibly long and athletic on the perimeter (2 6’ Gs, 2 6’2” G/F) but underpowered against teams with good post players. Holly’s tourney runs have helped her in recent seasons but her finishes in the SEC cannot sit well with Tenn fans. They’re currently in a 4-way tie for 6th behind 9 other teams. It’s early but I can only imagine the level of discontent around Knoxville right now.

This is a bit of a dilemma for me. I do like that Tenn is struggling but wonder how that will impact our SOS/RPI.

Well I guess I'm not the normal fan then because I don't want it to go inside bad. I see just the opposite, we keep forcing it inside when it's not there or the timing is off resulting in turnovers. We still are not executing the inside game correctly.

There’s a hesitancy from all players on the team this year that minimizes the advantage the post player receiving the ball has. Too often a Texas post moves across the paint and gets good position but the player with the ball doesn’t immediately get them the ball meaning their defender can then get into defensive position and/or the double team drops down. I’m not calling out the guards because the other posts do it as well even though they have to know the advantage of getting the ball as soon as they ‘flash’. There was a glaring example yesterday when Jatarie had the ball in the corner and Charli jumped into position on the block with her defender trailing. Jatarie hesitated then passed it to a player on the perimeter. Having the longer, more athletic posts isn’t that big of an advantage if they rarely get the ball before they’re immediately boxed in by 2 defenders.
