This all stems from disappointment and disillusion that Texas isn't as good as we expected them to be, or wanted them to be, or hoped they'd be. By "good" I mean good enough to beat top teams. I think wishful thinking has been suspended until they actually beat Baylor or someone else in the top five or ten. Then maybe we can speculate on Sweet Sixteen or Elite 8, etc... Maybe this year's team will evolve by the end of the season. As I've said from the start, I agree with the opinion that Collier may be our future and needs lots more minutes. Better to take a chance on promising players, even if we lose an extra game or two early, in the hope that it pays off late in the year. Our current performance level will not get it done.

I disagree. You owe it to your players especially the seniors to try to win every game. As I stated before I’m for whatever player helps the team win that specific game. I’m not for playing a player just because she MIGHT be the future. Trying to win THAT game is the only thing that matters.

I respectfully disagree with your disagreement. Collier deserves more minutes, probably at the expense of Underwood, who has not been a significant contributor. No one suggested trying to lose games by sticking with inadequate performance. The coaches were correct last season to play a couple of the highly touted frosh only sparingly because their shooting and decision making was, frankly, horrible. I think Collier has shown more and should be given more chances. It's not as if the team we are putting on the floor is a flawless machine so perfect that we don't dare tinker with the lineup.

I didn’t say Don’t tinker with the line up. I said that Coach Aston should play the players that she feels gives her the best chance to win THAT game. Texas plays another small ball team in Iowa State so it would make since that someone like Jada might get more playing time because she would absolutely match up better defensively against a team that plays 4/5 wings that all shoot the 3 very well. While Charlie might get more opportunities when Texas plays a team that uses a more traditional big line up like Baylor.

If you're putting a lineup on the floor with the sole intent to defensively "match up" with the opponent without regard to the individuals' offensive capabilities you've got a problem. Go back and look at the shooting percentages and/or offensive production and turnovers of the starting post players over the last several games. It's anything but stellar I'm pretty sure. Futhermore why, if you had a huge advantage over another team in a particular area, wouldn't you put a lineup on the floor that the opponent has to worry about matching up with? Why? Because your coaching skills are so one-dimensional and antiquated that the only thing you can "come up with" is a defensive reaction to what the other team does offensively. That's why!

Charli needs to be groomed... Not manipulated with "punishment." Groomed in her skills, groomed in game experience, and groomed into a dominant player with a leader's mentality. When was the last time we had a player that could carry the team on their back when needed? You know??? Players like you see on the top-tier teams. Out of ALL the HS All-Americans on our roster the past several seasons, not one has emerged as such. Ya know why??? Because Aston is NOT CAPABLE of grooming such a player and apparently doesn't empower the members of her staff to emerge as a coach capable of doing it either.

Make all the excuses you want... but it is what it is, and it ain't what it ain't, and it will never change as long as KA is there.

Who’s making excuses? Coach Aston’s main objective is to win the basketball game. Not groom players for next year or the future but to win NOW. And if she feels Jada or any other player gives them the best possibly to win then so be it. I’m sure Charlie will get more opportunities as the season goes along.

It is ABSOLUTELY a coach's job to groom players as well as win games... It's called "player development" and you here it said about the successful "top-tier" coaches often by commentators and analysts. Those coaches FIND ways to balance both priorities and a list of others to include engaging and building their fan bases. They empower their staff to be able to make sure it all comes together.

As I said... it won't change as long as she's in charge.

Player development happens in practice, spending time in the gym working on individual skills, and in the weight room. Is game experience important? Yes, but its not the only element of development. Aston has a responsibility to help develop her players,,,, all of her players not just the young ones. If Aston coaches every game based on who she needs to develop for the next year both her and Texas are in trouble. Make no mistake the number one priority,,,, not responsibility, is to win games now.

Look at the Norte Dame vs. Louisville game last night. Each coach played 9 players. Only 5 players for Notre Dame played double digit minutes. Why,,, McGraw was playing for today, not tomorrow. If you are a coach and you start coaching for tomorrow you run out of todays pretty quick.

In the Baylor vs. UConn game Baylor played 8 and UConn played 7. Only 10 total players played double digit minutes. Do you think Mulkey or Geno was worried about playing or developing that player sitting down there on the bench. They were worried about the players that gave them the best chance to win that night. They will worry about the MdAA in practice, in the film room, in the weight room, and in the summer.

I do think it is easy to look at the stat line and wonder why Collier didn't get more minutes. Maybe right now those minutes are the sweet spot for her. Maybe more minutes she gets tired or sloppy,,, who knows? I would venture to say that outside of the exhibition game against DII WT this is probably her most efficient game. I do believe she is going to be a very good player for Texas. A talent like her isn't going to sit on the bench for long. That responsibility lies as much on her as it does that coaching staff. If she was outplaying others I would bet money she would be on the floor more.

Maybe because she has a turnover rate less than half what it is for Joyner and Charli. I'm so sick and tired of watching Joyner throw the ball to the other team and miss bunnies over and over again grade school kids don't miss I wish she would just be benched for the remainder of the season.

I don't care how talented she is she's nothing but a waste of talent.

It's hilarious that the handful of posters on here who feel Mulkey can do no wrong, and criticize Coach A for not playing certain freshman players more have no clue that Baylor fans are livid with Mulkey for not playing highly-touted freshman, Aquira Decosta and Honesty Scott-Grayson more; in fact, there's a thread on the Baylor message board created solely to discuss why those two players (and Bickle from Arizona) can't find the court much this season.

    Decosta and Scott-Grason | SicEm365

Guess, what? Coaches have their reasons. Most of the time, we don't know those reasons, and never will. Whether it's Kim, Geno, Karen, Muffet, Waltz, etc.

I wanted all our freshmen to play more last season; didn't happen. I was disappointed. But, now I realize there had to have been good reasons.

This year, we've seen our freshmen play a lot. Maybe a couple are playing more due to Lashann's injury. Bottom line is that Coach A, throughout her time as Texas head coach, has played several of her true freshman significantly, and it's typically because they earned that playing time in practice, and by doing the right things when inserted in games -- Audrey Warren, Joyner Holmes, Lashann Higgs, Brooke McCarty, and Ariel Atkins are prime examples.

This ain't about Mulkey... But since you mentioned her I don't know how much wrong or right she does. But I'll tell you what...she doesn't do much wrong when it comes to playing KA. Mulkey has kicked her butt all over Texas and back... We're 1-14 against Baylor under Aston and if we're lucky enough to get them three times this season I'd be willing to bet that'll make it 1-17. Keep on making your excuses.... stats and records don't lie.

Who's denying that? Who's making excuses? We all know how much you love to bring it up on our board being such a Mulkey-lover.

She's been a head coach a lot longer than Aston. And, she's made a lot of mistakes throughout her career, and has underachieved in the tourney so many times I've lost count, mainly due to being out-coached despite being the higher seed and having more talent.

To me, folks on here either support our program and our head coach, or you don't. It's not like we have this "rich" tradition of national championships, final fours, or even conference championships beyond 1988.

Coach Aston is bringing in elite recruits, something Conradt and Goestenkors couldn't do, and why they resigned. Yes, we all want better results; but, this "entitlement" a few posters like you have is ridiculous.

I’ve certainly had my say about Coach Aston and although the team isn’t playing great they are winning games. I give coach Aston credit for trying and doing different things on the defensive end that she wouldn’t have done last year or in years past. Hopefully she’ll do the same on the offensive end sooner than later. Hopefully the team can continue to get better and they can win a tough game tomorrow.

No head coach in the country in any sport is perfect. And, no coach is above reproach. Coach Aston is receiving a lot of the same exact criticism Mack Brown received prior to 2005.

We've all (including me) been critical of Coach A. But, each one of us expresses that criticism differently, and some just seem to enjoy beating the same dead horse repeatedly. It's obvious by some posters' posting "style" that they don't support our coach or our program; probably best for them to find another team to support because Coach A is gonna be here for a long time based on her drive, hard work, and determination. I can't predict the number of wins or championships, but if she keeps winning like she has the last 3 years, and continues to bring in top recruits, she's not going anywhere. Time for some posters to simply accept that. They might end up sleeping better at night, too.

There you go again, annointing yourself as fan club president. Let me help you with something... You don't get to decide who should or shouldn't be a fan of UTWBB. Furthermore, if differing opinions offend you so much, maybe it's YOU who should get gone.

We're all fans with different perspectives (and obviously different standards and expectations), and because this is a forum for us to express opinions it's perfectly okay for us not to agree. What's NOT cool, in my humble opinion, is attacking others who have different opinions than our own. This is basketball not right-wing fundamentalism.

The interesting thing about the whole concept of this forum is to see different perspectives...and sometimes IF WE'RE OPEN ENOUGH we can see things or at least partly see things from another person's point of view.

Do us all a favor and sit down somewhere and rest your nerves. :smokin:

There you go again, assuming my posts are about you. I wonder why that is . . .

This board is open to everyone, including fans of other programs.

But, if you want to pretend that you "support" our head coach and our program, then you're only kidding yourself. Your constant belittlement of Coach A indicates otherwise. If your hopes are for her to get fired, that is years away from happening, if ever. It's not like she inherited a program where there was more than one Final Four or elite 8 appearance in the prior 20 years; she already matched that one Elite 8 milestone in year 3 of leading this program.

Your posting history is recorded and available for everyone to read any time they feel like wasting their valuable time; it proves exactly the type of "fan" you are. You enjoy self-loathing and dwelling on every failure or below-average performance; rarely do you post anything positive on here.

I mean seriously, do you enjoy watching our players play? If you don't, then you are simply a glutton for punishment. If watching Texas women's basketball games makes you so miserable, you might want to ask yourself why you continue to do it. Personally, I think you enjoy posting the criticism after the games more than you enjoy watching the actual games; that is your "style" on this board.

Jada has had some solid games for Texas, Jada is also a very respectful young woman. Jada probably got the minutes you feel Charli deserved because Jada didn’t cuss her coach and walk out of practice.

As I told another poster , Jada has had some solid games for Texas and Jada didn’t cuss her coach and walk out of practice so that could contribute. It takes more than Beira super star . It’s takes being respectful and not entitled. Coach Aston has a different boss now . She as a coach is doing what she wants to do now ,no one to tell her who to play no matter how they act .... this is why some of your super stars left because she not putting up with entitlement anymore. Cut Jada some slack . She is just as talented as the rest when she wants to be . But she also has respect for her elders and she had it as a freshman till now .

I am not qualified and do not want to comment on any current player's practice attitude. I can agree that Jada has earned playing time and to me her value in the OU game was apparent. Jada provided a great match-up for OU's guard and undersized forward line-up. And her hustle, defense, and offensive rebounding helped Texas close out the game. It is clear that Coach Aston trusts Jada to come in and do her job whether Jada gets 2 minutes, 10 minutes, or 30 minutes.
