Guess I'll go ahead and start this one since some team's seasons are over.

Not surprised at all... Don't know what's going on between her and Sherri, but she didn't even get off the bench for (I believe) the last several games.

Sherri Coale did such great things for OU women's basketball. I hated it when she beat us out for Courtney and Ashley Paris; the two programs went in totally different directions at that point, and we were the ones who took a nose-dive.

She proved that she is a very good coach, and resurrected an OU program that has basically been eliminated from the Oklahoma athletics family.

But, she is also a perfect example of what happens, despite being a good x's and o's coach, when you don't work hard and have success in recruiting the best players. Maybe it was complacency (like Mack Brown); maybe no longer has the same competitive drive and desire she had a few years ago.

She's lost of players the last few years, including Chelsea Dungee to Arkansas and Nancy Mulkey to Rice. Now Pellington.

While it maybe took her 25 years, she basically destroyed the program she built from the ground up and took them to the national runnerup trophy. Won't surprise me if she is fired this week.

Preach. I also respect her as a coach on the offensive side of the court. And enjoyed her teams play when she had other special players like Danielle Robinson, Aaryn Ellenberg, and one of my favorite players ever in WBB Stacey Dales. Phylesha Whaley who was an important part of building that program is also my cousin.

Kurupt, I like that your post specifies "on the offensive side of the court". OU's teams have been defensively challenged for many years. In some years, the offense was good enough to offset or nearly offset the poor defense. This year, even with a roster riddled with holes, Coale helped her team put points on the board, but the worst defense in the league doomed the Sooners. Offense seems to be the name of the game in today's WCBB world, but at least decent defense is necessary.

Absolutely. And I think a lot of the issues recently defensively have had to do with a lack of overall team athleticism on the perimeter. Unfortunately Pellington was probably their most athletic player on the perimeter.

OU fans have been very vocal about not landing enough elite post players recently to compete against the "big" teams in the conference. They always have good guards; but, they are undersized for sure. Losing Dungee and now Pellington hurts the perimeter scoring and overall roster depth.

I really didn't like Coale in the 90's or was it the 00's?......primarily because of the Paris twins and she had dominating teams with S Dale's and others. My Land Thief friends always pointed out that she was good on their eyes too. I have been wondering her situation up north as not a lot of information on her relationships with Dirt Burglar Administration and fans was available. I too wonder if she can survive this last year. By the way, speaking of "good on your eyes", I don't miss one bit the dress code of coaches from that era. I certainly appreciated the opportunity to look but I thought it demeaned the game and the coaches. I will never forget the Baylor coach that had the VERY short dress and wore VERY high heels on the sidelines! Amazing. When my daughter started coaching middle school basketball, I was glad she didn't go that direction. I was in awe of the junior high coaches wearing short dresses and high heels while coaching their games. They were copying LOTS of high school girls coaches doing the same. Sanity finally settled in. It will be interesting to see what happens to Coale. I don't have any animosity towards her anymore cause we are beating them. I don't think I could ever say that about Mulkey.

In 2017-18, the TCU women's coaches began wearing athletic clothing - leggings and tops with matching athletic shoes, a different outfit for each game. I saw another school (don't recall where) on TV in similar attire. I thought it probably was a Nike promotion for coaches, but never saw it again. I decided that I like it - it adds uniformity and removes the "what's the coach wearing?" commentary by announcers, which, fortunately, seems to have gone away.

And I'd bet that a terribly aging Lloyd Noble Center isn't helping their recruiting cause. Apparently the City of Norman is a mess and have not been cooperative with OU's attempts to negotiate a deal for a new multi-purpose arena. I'm glad we don't have that problem.

My plastic armrest at the Erwin Center, which broke off 3 years ago still hasn't been replaced!

Wow... that's unacceptable. My thoughts were mainly aligned with being appreciative that we've got a deal for a new arena.

I had the same problem even after complaining to the FEC staff and UT AD office.

Finally had to move seats a few years before I was no longer able to attend games.

Good points about OU's problems. Pellington transferring was just a matter of time, per OU posters. We have had similar problems recently, most notably with Chasity and Rellah.

It's easier to transfer now and that contributes to moving on from a problem rather than staying and working it out.

I really like the trend that the TCU coaches have going (looks like warmups), real comfortable, including sneakers. I could never figure out how coaches could stand on high heels, having heard too many friends complain about how uncomfortable they were.

Sherri isn't leaving but there is a shake-up on her staff.

Looks like Coale has been given the ultimatum by management and this is the last ditch effort to turn things around.

I was thinking she needed to shake the staff up, and try to hire a capable recruiter.

That's sad and a dedicated fan should not have to go through that.

Geez, she canned or they decided to leave?, her two most experienced assistant coaches and kept her son, who has minimal experience as a coach, including this season and one season as a grad assistant. :confused2:

From my perspective, it was a huge issue that Sherri hired her son. Of course, others seem to have apparently made this type of hire successfully — Iowa State. It’s curious — in a human nature way — that both OU and ISU’s coaches not only hired their sons, but their sons married former players from their respective programs.

Also, to comment on the “uniform coaching apparel”, I like it, too. It reads as business attire for their positions, to me. Oregon Ducks is another program that seemed to take to this practice in the last few years.

Since the OU assistants are perusing opportunities “away from the game of basketball” I would venture to guess that it was more mutual than anything.

As for Sherri hiring her son, I don’t really mind it because if she essentially trusts him enough to put her job on the line then why not?

Re: coaching attire @TCU I may be in the minority camp on this one, I’m not a fan. Like anything else in life you typically dress for things in order of importance to you. Obviously not saying that the TCU staff sees games as unimportant. I’ve just always guaged the respect a particular staff or program has for you by what they do when your team comes to town. Think of what we do when a USC, UCONN, BU comes to town. The best national anthem singers, pyrotechnics, best suits etc. To each their own though, just my two cents.

Coach Pebley. I wonder what her thought process was to arrive at dressing down and being uniformed in sportswear. It kind of reminds me of the football coaches and staff in uniform with the khaki pants and polo shirts. Its just a different spin on it.

I'm also ole school and dress for success was preached so much to me I think they could step it up a notch and still look uniformed in nice slacks or skirts and polos/oxfords. There are so many comfy dress smart business casual clothes that perhaps they could have made a better selection.
    But to each their own.

That's for sure. PG? I thought she was their SG.

Can't even check their forum as OSU doesn't have a separate WBB board and practically no posts about WBB.

I didn't expect to be talking about coaches' clothing on here, but as long as that is an open topic, I think KA is by far the classiest dresser of all women's BB coaches. I really like her sense of style. I think everyone should wear what they feel like wearing. Clothes are completely subjective, but to me, the weirdest dressers are Kim, of course, and Muffet McGraw. Tara V is surely the most consistent.

Sylvia Hatchell is the most ... interestingly ... dressed coach. When I lived in ACC territory, I saw North Carolina a lot. She has a wardrobe of Carolina blue clothing ... some of which most certainly dates to the 1980s, at least. Don't see her often now, but we may play UNC, according to one of the brackets. Someone is probably writing a dissertation about the correlation between coaches' attire and team performance!

Been expecting OSU coach to be fired/reassigned, but OSU admin may not care about basketball.
