What's this, Yale committing fraud in their athletics admissions? What is this, 1901 or something? They must be worried about losing to U. of Chicago.

[Yale -- 27 national championships in football, 890 wins (behind only Michigan)]

It worked for SMU, but the money was in suitcases in the back of new cars.

Well, at least the college admissions officials didn't use a casting couch (we think), like in Hollywood where some of these moms operate.

For Aggie trolls of yester year, NO, neither Butch Hadnot, nor a certain poster on this board, is listed in this indictment!

While it will never be revealed, I would really like to know (particularly where UT is concerned) how much of this is real and how much is entrapment.

As far as the "more qualified academic candidates being rejected", is he saying our 19% Asian student population should be 24%?

Leaves too big a paper trail. Even the feds can follow that one.

92% of Texas High School seniors are denied admission without as much as an interview - that is the real crime here.

Not only that, not sure the new FedEx robot will survive in College Station. The front message on it says: "Hello", not "Howdy, damnit!", and what if this robot gets lost and accidentally rolls over Kyle Field's memorial grass and God forbid if it rolls over 'dead dog cemetary'.

The whole concept of bribing (or otherwise gaming the system) to get your child admitted to a better university than they could honestly be admitted to is misguided on multiple levels.

I couldn't get admitted to Yale out of HS. I wouldn't want to go to a place where I would likely be near the bottom of the class regardless of how hard I studied. You're not doing the kid any favors by putting him or her in a position to be grossly out-of-place, the dumbest kid in class, and likely to fail. Gaming the admissions system is not in the best interest of the child.

If your kid is Yale level and can get in legitimately, fine send him to Yale.
If your kid is UT level and can get in legitimately, great send him to UT. If he's not, then there are lots of other decent schools he'll: (i) fit in better at, (ii) get a good education at, and (iii) have plenty of opportunities in life after graduating from.

I think one of our track coaches was sleeping with one of the "student athletes" under her tutelage, does that count?

I think I'm reading that differently than you. I take that quote to mean that 3/4 of the applicants are qualified, 1/4 of applicants are not qualified. Implication, they take the 1/4 unqualified applicants and hastily throw their applications into the circular file.

Then they pick their actual admits out of the 3/4 qualified applicants--most of whom will not be admitted (none of the 1/4 unqualified will be admitted--unless they have Hollywood moms or blow the tennis coach, etc....).

    Chop, you're probably right.

And not to be too argumentative, that 3/4 of their applicants are qualified in their opinion does not mean either that they admit only from those. Legacies, quotas of various ranks, etc.

Reading the sports associated with the charged coaches, is it safe to say we can no longer call these 'non-revenue sports?'

    Too soon?

It's never too soon to have a good laugh at life.

After accepting the $ bribe, the tennis coach tried to play a love game with the Hollywood mom asking if she'd like to work on some ball tosses and that he'd help her find her sweet spot. 'I heard you like to cross over. I'm into grinding myself' said the tennis coach. In a reflex volley, the Hollywood mom then hit a backhand smash to his ball(s) saying 'now that's break point, you deuce.'

    Game. Set. Match.

I am not saying that I condone the actions of the parents or the other adults. but in trying to think through their stupidity (not what they did but rather how they did it), I question if the FBI will go after parents giving political donations to get their child an appointment to a service academy. Then there is the issue of the 300 extra appointments for "athletes".

The only thing more inept in college athletics than the NCAA is the federal government.

Going from what I’ve read I think the Tennis “recruit” in question is Ben Cardone recruited in 2015.

I'm gonna' have to sit with my 15-year old daughter and talk to her about how not to be vapid, narcissistic, entitled, out of touch and pathetic.

My daughter is a very cute young lady. Has the look. She goes to a private school full of white-bread rich kids. She has told me that sometimes she cringes at how all the girls act, including herself. I'm going to cultivate that cringe...
