The sky seems bluer, the air smells cleaner, my life has meaning again. Notes from the start of Texas spring practice
Excerpts from the BON link above: — Freshman Roschon Johnson looks like he has already put on about 10 pounds of muscle since arriving, as he’s noticeably thicker in his upper body. — Freshman wide receiver Bru McCoy primarily took reps at the Z receiver position during the open portion of practice, as seniors John Burt and Devin Duvernay, the two most experienced players at the position, were not in attendance. In the wide receiver group, McCoy already stands out physically. — The first several periods were spent on special teams work, with senior running back Kirk Johnson, sophomore wide receiver Joshua Moore, and sophomore running back Keaontay Ingram working with one set of returners, likely kickoff return, while freshman running back Jordan Whittington and sophomore cornerback D’Shawn Jamison worked with another group on returns, likely punt returns.
We have a lot of frosh and Red shirt frosh who may get into the front 7 depth chart. Chisolm, Wilbon, Roach and Mccollough have paid their dues, but may get passed by some spectacular players from the last two recruiting classes.
Right. This is early spring, not the first game. Things can, and will, be moved around and adjusted many times between now and September.
Also, in the versions of the 3-4 we run, a (usually big) LB is frequently right up on the line playing a sort of hybrid DE/LB role.
Sounds familiar in some vague sort of way. Wonder what it could be? Were there two room mates named McCoy and Jordan, or is my memory defective again?
Wow. Whittington does look strong; didn’t know that for some reason. Yeah, if Wiley showed up at the house to pick up my 18 year-old daughter, I would have to protest.
Can I assume that the protest would be registered in a meek voice, coming from behind a tornado reinforced closet door?
His brother Quincey Whittington is a trainer. He has his own interesting story Quincey Whittington’s powerful story: NFL or bust, from suicidal to redefining success
There are a lot of people that need to learn the lesson he offers, I would love for Tom Herman to bring him in as an assistant to Yancy, not only because he obviously knows how to get results, but also because he brings a perspective to life and football that many kids need to learn. All these 5'star guys come in with NFL aspirations, but only about half get to the next level. Understanding that life doesn't revolve around sports success is something all these guys need to understand.
