Vs. #7 seed South Dakota State (24-8) on Tuesday. SDSU is an automatic qualifier as their conference regular season champions. We will host the game as the higher seed.

    Good luck Horns!

wonder if the seeding was before or after Hayes was declared out of the first game and probably out for the NIT?

I'm going to guess the injury played somewhat of a role in the seeding. TCU ended as a #1 seed even though we had a better conference record and by far more signature wins. They have 4 more overall wins, but lets be real. Looking across this pretty pathetic group of 32 its depressing to think we can't field a team worthy of being considered in the top 4. Especially with the successful recruiting seasons we've had. I wouldn't be surprised to see us lose on Tuesday.

I don't have any real confidence that the team will win the game Tuesday. They should. they are way more talented, even with Hayes out.
Horns are on a three game losing streak, losing those games by a double digit average.

Yet, the last game the Horns won was against the B12 tourney champ, ISU, by 17 points. Horns totally dominated the Conference Champ.

But we know how this goes. South Dakota State will play with great energy, they will have a hot shooter, we won't guard him close enough, Roach will get into foul trouble, the guards will have more turnovers than assists, the team will have a long scoring drought. And lose a close game.

I apologize in advance for my negativity. I had hopes for a good season. :deadhorse:

TCU swept both games against the Horns this year. And won a game in the B12 tourney.

Wow, I was compelled to buy tickets. Cheapest entertainment in town. Just got 3 side court tickets 3rd row (says 3rd row but only one row in front of us) for $14 each....$42 total. I have never been that low for a game before so I figured why not. There are still a couple pair of front row seats available.

One and done in the NIT will cause more damage to the basketball program than Strong losing to Kansas. CdC needs to go to San Antonio with hat in hand and ask Red to round up enough buddies to buy out Smart. Texas would pick-up the new coach's buy-out.

We won it all back in 1978 in Madison Square Garden when NCState tried to play a whacky defense against us, which we destroyed

I'm pretty sure this was the first season in the FEC (before that we played our BBall games in Gregory Gym)

I would have preferred we just declined the bid to play in the NIT. This team is an absolute embarrassment to watch. I'll be tuned in to the baseball team vs. Arky, rather than this group of poorly-coached under-achievers.

Back then the NIT meant something as the NCAA was 32 teams.

    Gary Goodner at post.

IIRC in the 4 or 5 games from Austin to MSG and the final no opponent finished within about 15 points of Texas.

Back then the SWC usually only got their champ a bid for the NCAAS. That Texas squad had chemistry and balance, maybe could have gotten to Elite 8 if invited and depending upon luck of the draw.

Edit: So checked it out via the googlemachine, Texas' NIT run:
    72-58 over Temple, 14 pt W
    67-48 over Nebraska, 19 pt W
    96-76 over Rutgers, 20 pt W
101-93 over NCState, 8 pt W in title game, but I don't think the game was ever close

LOL, so after buying these tickets I realized my daughter has a softball game tomorrow night so I can't go. Anyone want to go? The game is not even listed on Stub Hub or Tick Pick so I can't even list them there. Based on responses in the thread I'm guessing not.

Well, the Horns face the South Dakota State ..... wait for it .... Jackrabbits (the killer rabbits?).... so their only hope may be the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch...
