And the OLs (by Will Blaizer, same link as 1 post up)

    OL
The left side of the offensive line is set. Samuel Cosmi, Parker Braun, and Zach Shackelford. Cosmi and Shackelford have been having a pretty dominant week of practices. I’m not concerned there. In fact, the line may be better there next season than it was last season, which is encouraging.

It is the right side that is a question mark. It’s not a huge question mark, but a question mark nonetheless. It’s a question mark that will likely be solved by throwing bodies at the problem.

That’s exactly what Herb Hand has been doing. So far he’s been trying out different combinations of guys at this position to see what works best. Flipping Derek Kerstetter, Denzel Okafor, and Tope Imade around on the line with Christian Jones and maybe Junior Angilau pretty close to breaking into the first team.

If the season started tomorrow, Denzel Okafor would be the right tackle with Tope Imade as the right guard. I’m not very confident in Okafor, and it doesn’t seem like the staff is either. At this point, I would not be surprised if he is passed up on the depth chart before the season begins.

Texas could end up with a matrix system on that right side where you are consistently sending in different combinations to keep your right side fresh until you end up with a combination that is just vastly superior.

The thing I’m personally taking away from this is that Texas has some depth at the position. It isn’t astounding depth in terms of talent, but it’s much better than in 2017. Tom Herman reiterates that he wants seven or eight offensive linemen he feels can start. Texas may actually have nine by the time the season comes along.

A few snippets from Inside Texas' Practice Report --

    - One person who stood out in a crowded field of talented players was Joseph Ossai. He's a staff favorite who this person characterized as a "monster." Overall the defense was flying around.

    - I asked about the defensive line. My thinking is it will be workmanlike and heard back it's strong at the point of attack with a lot of bodies. Everybody was getting reps on Friday but the front line is pretty much set with Graham-Wilbon-Roach. Coburn is coming on, though, and he'll play "starter's" snaps next year.

    - The OL "did fine" which means the DL got the best of them, but that's to be expected. The 1st OL of Cosmi-Imade-Shackelford-Kerstetter-Okafor isn't likely your August line-up. I voiced a little surprise that they still had Okafor at tackle, "I know they know what they're doing personnel-wise so just have to trust them on that part." I do agree with that, but I'll be watching where Okafor is in a week. The OL was working fundamentals and base power, counter, and stretch plays. "Tyler Johnson looks the part." Ghirmai has a ton to learn at center. I think moving there caught him off guard.

    - The best news from the day is McCulloch is looking good. We know he's slimmed up some, but the extra time he's put in on the mental side appears to be paying off. He wasn't out there thinking, he was playing fast. Let's hope to hear this continue.

".... That reputation now has Cook primed to replace Boyd as the Texas boundary cornerback; a role in which confidence, competitiveness, and of course, competency in coverage are all required. Cook’s preference to play physically and press at the line of scrimmage suggests that he checks the former two boxes, while his footwork, fluidity flipping his hips and running step-for-step with receivers, and ability to read, react, and make plays on the ball point to his proficiency in the latter.

Generally speaking, a field corner enjoys the luxury of additional safety help over the top of the larger portion of the field. A boundary cornerback, on the other hand, is often left alone on an island, so the need for Texas’ top coverage corner to fill that role is obvious.

“Cook has the size, he has the length, he has the competitive side of it,” former Houston Lamar defensive backs coach and current Houston North Shore defensive backs coach Theadis Reagins previously told BON of Cook. “He’s a student of the game. He’s going to be a playmaker. I think he can take a guy out of the game, the top receiver, I believe he can take that out of some games.”

Beyond the heightened aptitude the team’s next boundary corner must have in coverage, though, is the added responsibility that comes with being physically able to help set the edge against the run on the shorter side of the field.

To that end, the once-168-pound Cook has now bulked up to a solid 190 pounds, which falls just five pounds short of Boyd’s 2018 playing weight of 195 pounds....."

If Coburn's blood levels are now normal, I can almost guarantee that it was a chemically induced incident. I have no idea what supplements he was on, but sounds like he is off them now.

Get well BJF. We're all used to seeing you on the giving end of hits.

IMHO, he's the hardest hitting headhunter--type S around here in quite a few years--and he's just entering his Sophomore year.

If anyone deserves to be healthy and have a good shot, it’s KJ. His HS film was one of the more impressive I had seen in many years.

If KJ stays healthy I really do think he has a big year, and might even have a shot to emerge as a leader at RB. Lot of competition from the young guys though.

OL Christian Jones has a high ankle sprain and is likely out for the remainder of spring.

my note - heavy guys with high ankle sprains are in no way good
