Is there a legal procedure by which Congress can remove one of its own for gross incompetence and stupidity, or does something like that just have to wait for the next election?

The Constitution, Article II, section 4 provides “The President, Vice President and all Civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.” So, are members of Congress "officers" of the United States?

There is a split on the answer. The House did it once to a Senator in the 1790s (he was later expelled by the Senate). And so the House does have the power to expel its own member, like the Senate has done. But the best answer is probably that it is up to the people.

But I wouldnt count on that happening here. I was living in DC through the entire Marion Barry saga. "The people" kept re-electing him. Likewise, it appears that the majority of people of Omar's district agree with her.

So that brings up the question whether the rest of us can impeach her entire district from the US? You start the petition, I will sign it.

Yes. Article I, Section 5 of the Constitution authorizes the House to expel a member with 2/3 vote. Very rare. Not gonna happen to Ilhan Omar. Keep in mind that they are ok with an impeached and removed federal judge serving in the House (Rep. Alcee Hastings, D-FL), so the bar is pretty low.

It should. If the democrats had any sense at all, they'd lead the charge.

That cover should be front and center at every rally he does going forward. With a caption that reads...."This is who the Democratic party is electing these days"

I think this would make for a hilarious SNL skit, along the lines of Jeopardy with Sean Connery
But they would never do it
AOC is a sacred cow now for the Left

Yeah, it was a pretty dumb joke, and definitely not something you'd expect a sitting Senator to say.

He knows he'll get his *** kicked. His popularity is city-wide, not state-wide. He also has the most punchable face of any Democratic Texas politician.

Maybe Joaquin wants to be available as a VP candidate just in case his brother wins the Democratic nomination.

I just saw some of the most hatefull despicable" questioning" of Barr by Dem senators I have ever seen. Hirono kept calling him a liar among other crap.
What Pelosi said yesterday about Trump was pure #hit.
Think if Boehner had said that about Obama?
If a Repub Pol has ever in the last 50-60 years been that hateful I'd like to see it. Dems make no pretense of being civil or adult.

That summary describes a great number of the recently-elected Democratic congressmen.

I just can't imagine the media fallout had any Republican Senator called ANY Obama AG a liar, etc., and demanded a resignation 2 months into his or her term.
