All defense. No offense. Whittington good. B.J. Foster good. Jalen Green good. Casey Thompson good. Windy and cold.

Receivers dropped a lot of balls. Maybe it was the wind but some just bounced out of their hands. Thompson has wheels.

Herman mentioned in the 2 minute postgame the wind made it very hard to do anything in the air.

I will say it seemed Thompson had too easy a time running downfield until he was touched by the first team defense. If it were a real game he would have easily run for 60-70+ yards in the first half. Huge gaping holes during those runs. To me not a good sign against a qb like him and we better get this fixed before the season starts.

Whenever the announcers called Malcom Epps name (which was frequently) it sounded like they were saying "Malcolm X".

    WorsterMan SEC here we come!!

I've not had a chance to view my recording of the game or LHN replays, but here are a few takeaways for me after watching the game:

"Music" - gosh turn it down some - it sucks out Longhorn Band oxygen!

WIND - blustery and swirling - certainly hurt the punt, pass & kick....

Typical spring game - vanilla, only showed some ankle, no tackling the QB, little to no special teams stuff.

Seriously, don't worry about Sam and don't read too much into his outing...

Whittington was very impressive running the ball - fast, great vision, balance, finds holes and maximizes every yard. Lots of upside!

Shack backup needs a lot of work on shotgun snaps said Capt. Obvious.

Thompson can throw and has some serious wheels. At this point, I have more confidence of him coming in if he has to relieve or replace Sam.

Epps - Impressive - come along way since last year - not LJH yet, but he could be.

Re: the Defense. I told several others, if they stay healthy, I have a few cocerns but I'm really not worried about them. As a unit, Orlando will have them playing very solid come the opener. I think they will be a pleasant surprise this fall.

Look forward to the arrival of WR Jake Smith in August camp....

At one point I saw Herman trudging taking huge long steps and really leaning into that 30 MPH wind. Funny.

It really was ridiculous wind for a football game. I don't recall seeing a live game in that kind of wind before.

Wiley dropped a pass or two he should have caught, but I think he'll see the field a lot. He has the size of a "true" TE, who can both block and catch passes. His size (6'6" with meat on the bones) will also create some match-up issues. Also, since he's big and he'll block a lot, he'll likely be able to fake a block and slide out into the pattern undetected with regularity.

Frankly, he was one of the few 2019 recruits that had me scratching my head, thinking 'the coaches must see something in him that I don't...'

    They did.

Our front 3 DL are now looking like a traditional 3-4 D-Line.

DEs - Roach 6-3 290; Graham 6-3 295 (and both with good athleticism)
    NT - Wilbon 6-3 335 or Coburn 6-2 340

    We won't be pushed around.

I just hope his talent is not wasted, that is, is he mean on the field? If someone was trash talking to me, i’d just point to Wiley

I'm not concerned about dropped passes.

    1. Cold weather like that makes the ball much more difficult to catch.
    2. The wind really throws off the QBs ability to place the ball in a good spot for the receiver.
    3. Most of the drops were by guys that will more than likely red shirt next year.

I'm coming away concerned about the interior of the offensive line. However, we get Parker Braun and I'm hoping he will solidify the interior. If he can bring what Calvin Anderson brought, You are going to see some big long runs and a safe and protected Sam Ehlinger.

The two performances that was most important to me was seeing the Shark make some strong positive plays, and seeing Jalen Green really step up and be the corner we all knew he would be.

Offensively, seeing Casey Thompson passing and running reminded me of Cardale Jones. I know feel good that if/when Ehlinger goes down, we have a backup we can actually trust.

Agree: Braun will likely be our best lineman the day he dons the burnt orange. IMHO Angilau looked so-so in pass protection, but very good on running plays when he was pulling.* Center play=not off-the-charts awful but not so great either (not even including the muffed snaps by our 2nd team center). Hopefully, part of this is due to Coburn and Wilbon being good NTs...?

    * I'm thinking Angilau will end up considerably better than Vahe. The way I see it, Vahe was a flat-out liability in pass protection, while good at short yardage/straight ahead power run blocking, and ok on the pull. On the other hand, Angilau looks really good on pulling plays, will equal or out-power most DL he'll face, and admittedly needs some work (but isn't a liability) at pass protection.

You have to remember that he played QB his senior year, so he didn't have a lot of reps at actually playing TE his last year of ball.

Sounds to me like we're going to look like OSU circa 13' or 14' on offense. Powerful oline and powerful fast backs. Then we have a couple of good to great dual threat QB's and probably the best (top 2 or 3) receiving core(s) in the country. Throw in our young TE's and this offense could be lethal! We didn't see it Saturday in a wind storm, but come September and October. I think Epps and McCoy's development will really be key. Parker Braun and the rest of the Oline too. I am comfortable now with our RB's and QB's unless depth becomes a problem late in the season with injuries. I'm excited. I told some guys at the tailgate, I can see us taking it all this year. I know orange sunglasses and it's only April. But dude, this is as talented a group as I 've seen since 2004-2005.

I said at the tailgate this group reminds me of the "03 team - the ones that were one half of one game away from getting into the national championship game (where Miami would have destroyed us) I think this season will be the springboard to a really great run, even if we don't make the playoffs.

Yep, and I get it. I wrote that post as a generally complimentary note that Wiley is turning out to be a pleasant surprise despite his unheralded recruitment and lack of offers from other top programs.
