Now in the wake of Baylor's triumph and a suddenly uncertain future for U.T., what better time to launch our annual seminar on the outlook for next season. Two years ago, based on her performance in high school and the McDonald's All-American game, I confidently predicted that the addition of Chasity Patterson alone might be enough to propel us to the Final Four. That didn't work out so well.

"BALL IS LIFE", do you really think a line-up including all three of Holmes, Prince, and Collier will work? Who will play where on defense and offense? I have been thinking that Prince (recovering from injury could limit minutes some?) might come off the bench with the final starting position going to Underwood or Warren, or even Celeste Taylor. I think Taylor will earn major minutes because of overall game even if her shooting may be somewhat unreliable.

Edit to add: I think sweet sixteen is the absolute lowest acceptable finish next year.

Whoever the starters are going to be Coach Aston has to step her game up as a coach next year. Whether that’s by implementing things into the offense/system or hiring someone that can do it. The health of the team is going to be important but so is the coaching aspect of the team.

Because of this past year, I'm going to take the glass-half-empty perspective so as not to get my hopes up too high. My Eeyore take is:
    1) Lashann will be slow to get back to her former quickness. Lord knows we need her badly. But it took Sug midway through her freshman year to really get back from an ACL she tore her senior year in high school. Waaaaaaa.

    2) Joyner. How can I say it? Snakebit. Bad decisions her sophmore year kept her out until the last week of December. Bad physical luck her junior year kept her out until the last week of December. Remember she came into college the same year as Lauren Cox and Cox is about to reach her peak her senior year. Joyner is just one-step back one-step forward. I hope the game hasn't passed her by and she's already "peaked"?

    3) The mysterious Aussies - Goodness I hope they are the secret, second coming of Kristy Wallace. But...shrug.

    4) I was hoping for Sedona to get play time to get "banged around" and learn the ropes of what it was to go up against players like Kalani Brown. I hope the re-do with her pins holds and nothing else goes badly. She was so pumped to be playing next year and the last couple of pictures of her are...somber.

    5) Charli Collier - great hustle. Definitely going to get starting time. I wish she would learn how to swat the ball. But then, maybe that was never her game. But then, maybe it should be!

    Depressed now.

    Leaving.

I think it could work against certain teams but you make a good point with Sedona coming off her injury. Don't forget Palmer as well. She's putting up some good numbers against women in their mid 20's. Also agree that sweet 16 is mandatory but anything past is a success.

Agreed. Even if Sedona is fully recovered, I'd expect a 3 player post rotation of Holmes, Collier and Prince with Hannan picking up whatever minutes are left. Charli got much better at managing her fouls as the season wore on but refs still seemed to call her for stuff they let other bigs from Texas and the opponent get away with.

I also always like to look and see what the other teams from around the country have returning to possibly get an idea of what Texas might be capable of in the post season because everything is about timing and some luck in terms of injury. And there are a lot of the top teams that either lost their best player or are completely rebuilding.

Louisville, Mississippi St, South Carolina, Notre Dame, UCONN, and even Baylor to a lesser extent either have to replace their best player or have to completely rebuild. So if Texas ever does somehow want to make a run this would be a good year to do it.

Hoping first and foremost for good health for all our players. After that, lots of thoughts swimming around in my head, but better to share them once they get better organized.

I continue to wonder about the status of Shae Routt. Assuming she was a medical redshirt for the past season but never heard that to be declared officially. Hopefully she will be able to play and contribute in 2019-20.

I think Routt was hurt her entire senior year of high school and freshman year at Texas. Don't know if it is the same injury or not. I cant project any positive outcome very soon from someone who hasn't really played since her junior year of HS.

One thought about the center position. None of Holmes/Colllier/Prince provide much of an "inside" presence. They all appear to be mobile center/forwards who want to play more forward than center. So we will see if that works. I have to think that Prince will be physically ok...…...not early, but maybe later in season. If you see another late center recruit (grad transfer or JUCO) on Aston's radar, that might indicate Prince is iffy for this year. I don't think Hannan would be a legitimate rotation player as a freshman. I agree with racer...…...don't expect a lot from Higgs early. Hopefully, later in the year she will get confident in her knee. With all the transfers happening, I think there will be one showing up in Austin. Don't know what position, but there are a lot of options to fill in a need on the team. The next couple of months will be very interesting to see where everyone lands. WAY to early for a lot of teams to say what they will be in October.

Y'all will have to take my word for this, but I wanted Kim Mulkey (then Kim Mulkey-Robertson) to replace Jody. We coulda got her then. I wanted Kim Mulkey to replace Coach G. Maybe coulda got her but mucho $$$ by then. Third time's the charm? Coach Aston has kinda hit a wall it seems.

Kim Mulkey played for Leon Barmore. I cannot think of a higher recommendation than that.

Uhhh, Kim dislikes Texas as much as we dislike her. Yes, money talks but in this case I'm not sure that would be the thing that would make her leave. The thing that would interest her is to take over a big name program like UCONN.

But, she's currently the Queen of Waco. why would she ever leave, except boredom.

Agree. She does not fit with either the type of character qualities of all of the other Texas HC's, or the character that the University wants to promote.

I wanted her, too. But it's too late now. We MAY have had a chance at her when KA was hired but perhaps not. I feel very confident, knowing what I know, we could have gotten her as JC's replacement.

Kim Mulkey is a stand up person. She is considerate and appreciative of her fans, players and staff and they LOVE HER for it. She is passionate, generous and well respected. You saying that she doesn't "fit with either the type of character qualities of all of the other Texas HC's, or the character that the University wants to promote" won't change any of that and reeks of arrogance. I promise you she won't lose any sleep over it. She's too busy enjoying her THIRD NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP....

I’m sure Empress and the other Texas players she’s taken shots at would disagree.

Well here's a fact for you since you always seem to know so much. Ours is far from perfect either....that is a fact!!!!! What I can tell you is that Kim Mulkey is loved by her fans, players, and coaches. She has been gracious and generous to me over the years even though I am a Texas fan. I appreciate and respect the passion and commitment she brings to the game and the genuine appreciation for not only her fans, but fans of womens' basketball in general. We obviously disagree.......

Kim Mulkey is trash; that is all.

She showed who she really is when after a game last season (or the year before) she told Baylor fans at the Ferrell Center who came across folks talking about the Baylor rape scandal to "punch 'em in the face", and then she dropped the microphone. A few days later she faked crocodile tears about how sorry she was AFTER the national media raked her through the coals.

I don’t care what she’s been to you. And I don’t care who she’s loved by. She’s been out of line with Texas players and there’s video to prove it that’s a FACT.

I laughed hard when Mulkey held her infant grandchild during the reveal of the bracket on TV in March on ESPN. Really tried to "soften" her image; and, she had no problem using her grandchild to do it. That's just who she is . . .

Are you even aware that Kim Mulkey LOST her first grandchild or do you even care??? For you to even make that kind of statement and "laugh" after the woman's first grandchild DIED tells us exactly who you are!!!!!! You judge others for their behavior which pales in comparison to the classless dig you just took at a grandmother whose first grandchild DIED and for showing affection and love..... You literally have no shame!!!!!

Just stop trying to be so sanctimonious, and trying to read SO MUCH into my comments (which I was CLEAR about; except, you WANT to try and turn into something bigger). One thing has nothing to do with the other. Yes, I'm aware. But, she USED her INFANT grandchild on national TV; the CHILD is innocent, but has no business in that setting.

Thanks for JUDGING me and reading what you CHOSE to read into my comment.s

And, this isn't the Baylor message board; so, if you want to profess your love for Mulkey and her program, do so with the expectation that it won't be well received on a LONGHORNS message board.

Knowing what you know about the loss of her first grandchild, you can't simply state something so hideous and then run and hide from it. There was no need for me to READ SO MUCH from your comments. It clearly is GUTTER MATERIAL. YOU on the other hand are the one JUDGING because you have absolutely nothing to base your disgusting comments about Kim Mulkey "using" her grandchild on other than your own hateful heart. I'm clearly no Baylor lover, but I can certainly appreciate and respect the job Kim Mulkey has done and the fan base and support she has built!!!!!

I LAUGHED at Mulkey's transparent ATTEMPT to soften her image by USING her INFANT grandchild on national television. Deal with it.
