Vol Horn 4 Life Good Bye To All The Rest!

I can vouch for this concern. My son spent all four years of HS in a private school and in general I didn't see much competition nor quality players in any sport. Certainly if someone was good they we're good against some pretty bad competition.

My daughter spent her freshman year at the same school and played softball. There were FOUR players on the entire team who had played softball at all before they were on this team and they made it to state and lost the final four game. Just not much going on in Texas private schools.

The QB's from Cistercian and Second Baptist come to mind. Unlike California where the private schools play in the CIF, only two private schools play in the UIL. The QB and RB positions are particularly vulnerable to overrating due to the competition they don't face.

2021 RB Camar Wheaton (5'11,190) from Garland
247 has him as the #2 in state and top RB in state -- already offered by Alabama and Georgia
Looks like laser timed 10.5 here

Top 4 Texans are all Top 25 nationally.

    All from North Texas.

Hope we do better than 2 out of 4.

Eric Nahlin thinks we are in good shape with the 2021s
He took a stab at a top 50, here is the top 11 from that list
Once again, in state looks light on LBs

    1. OT Tommy Brockermeyer, Fort Worth All Saints: I had Fatheree slotted here for about two years but I can't find a flaw in Brockermeyer's game. He can always improve, of course, but he's the safest bet I've seen in a long time at #1.
    2. OT Reuben Fatheree, Richmond Foster: Tremendous upside and a better floor than given credit for.
    3. RB Camar Wheaton, Garland Lakeview Centennial: Feature back with home run ability thanks to sprinter's speed. If Texas lands five-stars Brockermeyer and Stone, UT will have to be sitting pretty for the publicity-shy Wheaton.
    4. OL Donovan Jackson, Bellaire Episcopal: Technically sound with great feet. The one question is will he be a guard or tackle. He's similar to Kenyon Green.
    5. OT Hayden Conner, Katy Taylor: A better athlete than given credit for. Great size and leaning up, I bet he has a great junior year. Similar to Lindberg in the way he moves.
    6. OL Bryce Foster, Katy Taylor: Has all the power you need for guard but adds in elite body quickness and lateral movement for the position. Very high floor.
    7. DL Tunmise Adeleye, Katy Tompkins: Versatile linemen who can play 5-tech on in. Will fit 4i quite well if UT can land him.
    8. ATH Shadrach Banks, Galena Park North Shore: I think people are struggling with his position fit. You know I love clarity in that regard and fortunately LJH provided that for me. Banks has a bit of a defensive player's body, especially in the legs, making some think linebacker or box safety. He could pull that off but I want his game-breaking ability in the slot.
    9. QB Preston Stone, Dallas Parish Episcopal: I have him as Shea Patterson-ish because of the arm and "pocket athleticism." JT Daniels works too. I won't quibble with him being a five-star and if UT really wants him they should push to help with the current class. I don't think he'll be one to draw out the process.
    10. WR JoJo Earle, Aledo: "JoJo Earle" sounds like someone Steve parties with on Copperhead Road, but he doesn't look like it. Fantastic film. He's nothing like Ryan Newsome. He's much more fluid and nuanced. He's the perfect H-slot for the Texas offense.
    11. DE Landon Jackson, Texarkana Pleasant Grove: He moves more like a tight end than a defensive end to me, which is a good sign of athleticism. I'd like to see what his frame looks like in a year.

Since weather moved some Spring Games around, Foster will have to choose between aggy and ou on Friday. True for a handful of other recruits too. For Foster, it will probably be an indication of who his #1 school is.

Visiting this weekend -- DL/OLB Shemar Turner (6’4 255) from Desoto

"Desoto played Turner last season in a role that is similar to the B-Backer position that Joseph Ossai currently occupies for Texas. He can be seen on tape making plays rushing off of the edge, dropping back in coverage, or breaking down on ball-carriers in space. Turner is an elite talent that I believe should factor heavily into the discussion for the top defensive player in the in-state class. He grew up cheering for Texas, North Carolina, and Baylor."

DL Tunmise Adeleye (6’3 250) from Katy Tompkins

A Maxpreps All-American, Adeleye already has offers from most of the P5 big boys. His functional play strength stands out on tape as he repeatedly jolts opposing blockers on initial contact. Adeleye does a good job with his hands and plays the run like a grown man. He doesn’t have a great first step, nor does he show much in the way of snap anticipation. He’s without a doubt a high-quality prospect, but I don’t feel like he has the same upside as a few of his peers in the class as a pass rusher. Adeleye is high on Texas and Texas A&M early.

2021 DE/OLB Landon Jackson (6’5 225) from Texarkana Pleasant Grove

"Jackson’s length is outstanding. He’s also fast, showing the speed to repeatedly chase down plays from the backside on his clips. Contrary to what his current build might suggest, he is not just a speed guy. Jackson surprised me with his willingness to get physical and engage blockers, along with his wiry strength to discard them. In my opinion, Jackson has the most upside as a pass rusher in the class. Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas are expected to be major players in his recruitment."

DE/OLB Prince Ugoh (6’2 210) from Frisco Liberty

"Ugoh is rangy, athletic, and very twitchy on tape. At roughly 205lbs, his high school plays him out of position as a 4i down lineman, yet he is able to still excel along the interior. He projects as a guy in the future that will be able bend the edge as well as stand up and play in space. His body isn’t even close to what it will ultimately become. Ugoh has some high upside as a pass rusher at the next level."

Here is part of Eric Nahlin on James Brockermeyer --

" ... It isn't often that a 250-pound sophomore center is offered by the blue bloods but James's circumstances are unique, and playing center actually helps.

One thing I mentioned recently was playing center in high school would be attractive to schools. That is something Blake has been hearing quite a bit as well.

Said Blake on Friday afternoon, "Clemson did not seem to be too concerned with James's size this morning. I've heard this a few times now but projecting a center and actually having one that's playing it makes a difference."

Texas is saying similar things, "Herman and Hand told him on the field basically the same stuff we've been talking about. Have a natural center that's going to grow into the position so no need to project.........."

Now THIS is a player!! On offense, quick moves, good vision, spots the open holes quickly, can change direction quickly, solid balance, uses his blockers very well, runs through wouldbe tacklers, excellent exceleration. On Defense, sheds blockers, fills gaps, brings the pain on running backs, good strength.

He is a 2021 who just made his first visit
Here is some TFB on him

4-Star Texarkana (Texas High) ATH Clayton Smith is going to be one of the most coveted recruits in the country in the class of 2021. The Texas coaching staff was able to get Smith on campus for the first time this weekend when he and several family members made the trip down from East Texas. The 6’4, 210lb playmaker tells me that he enjoyed himself during his time in Austin.

“I could get used to this place. I really felt the energy.” .... Smith says that he was invited by Tight Ends Coach Derek Warehime, which may give a bit of a hint as to where Texas may be interested in Smith playing at the next level. ... “Nah, I really just want to be on the field,” Smith replied. “It doesn’t matter which side of the ball.”

Already holding two offers (Arkansas and Southern), Smith tells me that he is being recruited heaviest by Arkansas, Miami, Texas, and Memphis currently. As far as an offer and Texas, he says that the Texas staff wants to see him work out in person before joining the mix. “They want to evaluate me at practice and then it should come.” Smith said.

When asked about what some of the main factors would be in his recruitment, Smith told me the city atmosphere, academics, and the opportunity to play early will be most important. “The atmosphere of the city. Their team history,” Smith continued, “Whether or not my major is available and if so, how good is the program? Would I have a chance to start or play my Freshman year?”

My take: Arkansas and new Head Coach Chad Morris are all over the 2021 class in Texas, having already extended offers to many of the prospects that I’ve spoken to. Arkansas has a proximity advantage over Texas and has also gotten Smith on campus already. Texas has a good chance of getting Smith back on campus and the groundwork is being laid in this recruitment. It’s early in this one, but I see Smith being a guy that wants to stay in the region and I could easily see this shaping up as a Texas/Arkansas battle for the signature of the 4-Star."

2021 OT Hayden Conner has narrowed his choices down to us, aggy, Stanford and Meatchikin

Here is what TFB wrote about him back in Feb --
".... While it is early in his recruitment, Hayden Conner is solidifying himself as one of the top players in the nation. With that comes some national

“I have a top three, and I’m looking to hopefully add a fourth into that… UT is a top three.” If I had to take a guess at who else is in that top three I would say Michigan and Wisconsin join Texas.

As is becoming a theme amongst Texas recruiting, Herb Hand is a big reason that Conner is enamored with the Longhorns: “He’s an awesome guy. I love hanging out with him whenever I go up to campus. I know that he cooks for his guys every Friday, so that’s a positive.”

Insider Note: After speaking to people around Hayden Conner, this recruitment may enter it’s sunset sooner than most. Things seem to be settling into place. I wrote very early on that the Conner’s love the idea of the Big 10. They have their favorite offers (aside from one), but was also told that Hayden has always had an eye for the Burnt Orange. If he stays in state, he’s a Longhorn."
