Michigan as a school is top notch, probably the #1 public University in the nation depending on your major of course. Still, the state of Michigan is pretty F'ed up. I wouldn't want to live in any state in the rust belt. Maybe Minnesota, but they aren't really a rust belt state.

Stanford is Stanford, I hate those dudes, but if they offered me a scholarship, I would have jumped on it without question.

Aggsy offer their regular SEC *** pounding so if you want to be *** pounded by the best, then they might be a heavy favorite.

Texas offers close to home and a great coach.

    UVA & UNC say HELLO!

Berzerkley usually gets the nod particularly if the student has no common sense and/or enough sense to pour piss out of a boot.

If you want to get technical, UCLA and Cal Tech are generally higher ranked than Cal. I've seen a few rankings that have Michigan #1 named public University. I've seen Cal Tech ranked #1.

    4th_floor Dude, where's my laptop?

Certainly Michigan was a top notch university 40 years ago. The school was built up with the support of the auto industry and other heavy industry that thrived in MI after WWII. Since those industries have declined tremendously, and with the anti-industry attitude of academic leaders, it's unclear if they are still living on their past reputation. I have no idea, but I don't put much faith in media rankings.

Michigan spends about twice what Texas spends on research. Surprisingly, Texas doesn't spend that much on research. I think Texas does around 600 million while Michigan spends about 1.2 Billion

Austin Bill --- I think you are referring to University of Michigan, Ann Arbor research dollars as compared to University of Texas-Austin research dollars, right?

NSF – NCSES Academic Institution Profiles – Rankings by total R&D expenditures

It's a bit misleading to compare UM to UT and just leave it at that. UMs R&D comes in #2 nationally according to NSF at around $1.5B --- BUT, about $0.9B of that is "life sciences" research.

UT-Austin comes in 35th at about $0.7B, which does not, of course, include the UT MD Anderson Cancer Center, ranked 21st nationally in R&D, heavily involved, if not exclusively, in life sciences research, with R&D of $0.9B. AND, UT Southwestern Medical Center with R&D of $0.5B, which dominate compared to the other 5 or so UT System components involved in medicine.

Other impacts of such R&D ratings include noting eAtMe ranks 19th at $0.9B, and Meatchicken State , 32nd at $0.7B, to balance fairly.

Pretty sure if you add up all UT System components, eAtMe and components, other Texas state institutions all competing for the same dollars that might wind up in state of Texas R&D, and compare that to what UM and it's related institutions do, one gets a very different picture.

The state of Texas about 20 years ago became the most industrialized state in the nation, and it's medical research bows to nobody in the world.

UT Austin is just one player for those R&D dollars but in spite of only recently having a medical facility as part of the UT Austin component, and not being located in a city like Houston or the Great Lakes area with heavy manufacturing backdrops, still competes respectably for R&D dollars.

Of course if you added up UCal system R&D it would swamp errbody bigly.

Also, the relative post-Cold War decline in military R&D has impacted UT research--we used to do a lot of this.

(Not that it has much to do with 2012 Recruiting or anything...) :rolleyes1:

Then maybe UT will get our piece of the pie. This was one area that Dollar Bill Cunningham was highly effective at.

I had a physics prof, Griffey, that did a lot of sonar research for the DOD. We also have one of the best aerospace engineering depts in the country--that helps for DOD research $$$.

This is our first 2021 offer to a DB -- CB Tony Grimes of Virginia Beach, VA
Grimes will visit in May. His father reached out to our staff first. Tony's cousin is 2021 WR Latrell Neville of Fort Bend Willowridge, who has also contacted us. They would like to play together.

I know these young men are trying but I wish they could write.

I know what they are trying to say in these tweets, but it reads all wrong.

This reads like UT has offered 19 times. He should have tweeted something along these lines...

Blessed to receive an offer from The University of Texas!! Nineteen D1 schools have offered now...WOW!!
