Yes, It is a very interesting decision. I've always felt that she would do very well at a smaller D1 program. One things for sure, Staley is very demanding and just like Coach Aston defense is important.

The death of her father could be a reason for a waiver. Her family situation has always been complicated, though, because her AAU coach was her legal guardian in high school (not sure for how long total). And, since she's not transferring to a school closer to family (my assumption based on geography), she can't use the "need to be closer to family" reason.

Regardless, her reasons for all her decisions are her own. She has faced a lot of adversity in her young life, and my opinion of her will always remain positive. Good luck to her.

No. Had a few good games against the smaller schools. Other than that, average.

Staff didn't seem to think she was average when they put on the full-court press recruiting her. Cynthia Cooper didn't seem to think she was average either.

She almost single handedly pulled us out of a first half double digit deficit against Tech. Other than that desperate coaching moment, never got much of a chance to utilize her skills in the pigeon hole offense, and wasn't quite able to conform to the "one way only" defensive style.

Yet another mishandled player in KA's :e-poo: storm.

Maybe she was just average under Aston:facepalm:. She will certainly have a chance to play and compete for championships that’s for sure.

No doubt that Destiny was a great high school basketball player. From reading the threads, there is an obvious disagreement along party lines whether she is a great college basketball player. One thing is certain, time will tell.

Maybe she just wasn't a fit with the program. That happens with lots of ladies as you see in this transfer portal. Just calling it like I've seen it so far. Best of luck to her.

True. But to counter, lots of great players have been great under KA. i.e. Brooke and Ariel.

If Destinee goes to SC and lights it up, yup she wasn't a fit for KA and Texas. But if she goes to SC and plays average minutes, will KA get the blame for "ruining" her?

I just think that for the type of game Texas likes to play, she wasn't a good fit.

I don't disagree with you on that... and to clarify I never insinuated her life was ruined, just that she didn't fit the limited style of play at Texas.

And guess what? Staley’s style of play and philosophy is very similar to Coach Aston defense and rebounding. She’s not a great offensive coach. Which is why I was surprised she went there. IMO she would have thrived at a lower D1 place like Loyola Marymount.

Like all the "average" players who have transferred out of South Carolina going back to Kelsey Bone from Houston?

I could be misunderstanding your first two statements. No, she has not been a great player in college. But, since your opinion is that she is a great player, why would you be surprised/disappointed that she is transferring to a "Top Program" like South Carolina? Were you expecting her to choose a mediocre program?

No one was more excited than I was when Destiny started considering Texas and eventually deciding to come here. What we learned about Destiny is that she is a great 3-point shooter, and a great student academically. She did not make any Big 12 teams while at Texas, so I can't call her a "great player", as much as I'd like to since I like her for how she represented herself and Texas, and all the obstacles in life which she has had to overcome for such a young person.

But, Destiny did not show up in the proper physical condition her freshman season. And, getting injured during the season basically put an end to her chance of contributing. Destiny herself went on record after the season as saying she did not realize how important conditioning was going to be in college as she didn't have to concern herself with that in high school. Even after two full years in college, she has not attained the conditioning that is needed to be a "great player". But, there is still time if she decides to make the commitment to improving her conditioning.

I don’t think anyone here deemed Jatarie White as a average player when she transferred to UT from SC. Everyone including Aston was thrilled! But SC fans didn’t call her average because she left, we wished her well and some even thought had she stayed she could’ve gotten a lot better and could’ve been apart of championships.

My whole point in coming over here was to defend Destiny from UT fans who once “loved” her now bashing her saying she’s average. In actuality she doesn’t need to be great at SC, she just needs to play her role and that’s definitely something Dawn expects her to do or else she wouldn’t have recruited her again. With all due respect I think all the players that left Texas will thrive at their new homes. Patterson at UK, Boothe at MT and Littleton at SC simply because of the different situations they will be in and they will have better coaching. I think you all should just wish her well and move on because she’s apart of someone else’s team now... Just my honest opinion.

Look how it's trending. Also... Considering the level of talent that has been brought in -- most of which has been either poorly developed (or now transferred) and looking at how we've been challenged and even beaten by teams with far less -- yeah, it's a :e-poo: storm. One would think there'd already a contract extension if the results have been so satisfactory.

Seriously? How many posters on here called her "average"? I counted one prior to you interjecting yourself in this thread. Who specifically "bashed her"? Your reading comprehension sucks, and your propensity to completely over-exaggerate (and trending towards lying) is high.

Stating that she was not "great" during her two years at Texas is not bashing her. Since you are here "defending" her, why don't you use one adjective to describe her results at Texas, or summarize her play for those of us who have followed her closely the last two seasons.

Chaz will thrive because she fits Kentucky’s system and has a great skill set. No one has ever questioned Boothe’s abilities if she’s healthy and is in shape she’ll dominate lower comp. I think Destiny will be a nice role player similar to the Roy kid from a few years ago. I just don’t see Dawn making that much of a difference for a kid offensively. Just my honest opinion.

Just to clear the air someone asked if she was a great player and I responded average. It wasn’t meant to bash her at all, just a summary of her year in my opinion. I bet she would say the same thing about her year. You’re right it’s time to move on. Time to focus on the players who want to be here and rep the 40.

Whatever your stated reason for coming to a TEXAS fan board, you have taken the opportunity to take a few shots at the TEXAS coach and the TEXAS program. And I fail to detect the "due respect" to which you allude.

For the record, I respect Destiny's choice. I wish her well. I can think of no reason to express any other opinion on the matter.

Doesn’t matter If one person or the entire board called her average, IT WAS SAID so I came to defend her PERIOD. Maybe I should’ve direct my initial post at that poster but I didn’t. Still doesn’t change my point. Destiny was solid from what I’ve seen last year, especially after barely playing her freshman year. There’s no reason to believe she won’t continue to get better...

From Raoul's Twittter Account: (His Twitter feed is now locked and I'm not able to post a direct link to the post. I've copied his post from April 9, 2019)

South Carolina WBB signed 14 players in the 2014 through 2017 recruiting classes; 9 transferred out. Attrition rate = 64%.

Here's a link to Cocky Talk. You can visit the Fowl Shots forum and come to the defense of any of the SC transfers that are slighted by SC fans as they exit the program.

    Fowl Shots

Honestly, I don't give too much thought to players transferring from programs. The players have to do what they need to do to be happy. Some players want more playing time and other's aren't a good fit. In the end, it's probably best for both parties. From what I can tell, Aston probably would have preferred for Destiny to remain with the team but she likely needs a new start with a new coach. I agree with @kurupt that there are programs that probably would have been a better fit for Destiny.

You coming to a Texas WBB message board to preach to us about one poster calling her average (which is supported by stats) is puzzling when the SC message boards have been buzzing with chatter about transfers. With the stellar recruiting class arriving at SC, Dawn will be just fine losing a few players. It will be interesting to see from afar how she manages the egos and the parents' expectations as they enter the program.

Now, back to the infighting with our own fans :e-face-tears:
