We got a CB in for 2021 RB Camar Wheaton (5'11,190) of Garland Lakeview Centennial. 247 now has him as the #1 RB and #2 in state

The current status of any '20 recruit means next to nothing and any '21 recruit absuletly nothing. Recruiting is fun to follow but get a grip.

For anyone interested in reading an exercise in moronic self-serving crapola go over to surly. They'll be delighted to tell you all about how the only reason any ESPN top 300 recruit wouldn't sign with the horns is another school offered a boatload of cash.

Mike Roach thinks Wheaton could be the next 2021 commit. Wheaton knows Rashaad Samples and is buddies with recent commit 2021 WR Quay Davis (same 7-on-7 team).

Here is some more video so you can make your own judgment

Well, hopefully you will start limiting your comments on the Recruiting board to whatever the next recruiting cycle is - in this case, 2019 - and spare us your thoughts about any following seasons, Mr. Positivity.

Camar Wheaton has some crazy speed, looked like old film of Jamal Charles.

if I really thought that, I would never click on 2020 or 2021 threads, let alone reply to them. it takes effort to go to threads that mean nothing and way more effort to reply on them. why waste your time unless you enjoy something...

What did I say that was factually incorrect? Verbals are 100% non- binding. Your degree of optimism and comfort isn't my responsibility.

As is your negativity. Everyone knows a verbal commitment is nonbinding, but you have a tendency to not be supportive of nor be excited about a young man declaring his intention to play here next season or the next one or the next one. As with most of your posts, you just enjoy being a contrarian and farting at the dinner table.

I'll be supportive and excited as it gets when they sign the letter. Until then it's all just talk. Toshiro Davis was committed to LSU for months before being a NSD switch to the 'horns. Anything can happen.
What anyone on a message board says couldn't be less relevant.

A contrarian no doubt. I'm also the guy who sticks up for Blake Gideon when others insist on blaming him 10 years after the fact for costing us a spot in the BCS title game.

Your view is wrong and outdated. The recruiting game has changed. Offers are going out earlier and earlier than ever before. All the big programs are investing resources in identifying talented freshmen/sophomores with upside. It's not an easy game to play and Texas was reluctant to join. But that position started to cost us some prized recruits, so Herman & Co have since adapted. We had no choice. We are now out there making the same identification of young talent and early offers as everyone else. We are making offers two years ahead of when we did when Herman first got here (and maybe 3 years ahead of the way Strong tried to do it). To channel Dodds, in this case, we were not the Joneses. You would have seen all of this reflected in the 2021 and 2022 threads if you took the time to look at them.

ps- There was one coach (I think it might have been the guy at Ark) who recently made an offer to an 8th grader.

edit - correction - it was the devil himself Alabama Football: Tide Offers 8th Grader from Nevada for Class of 2023

My point has nothing to do with when the offer is made. When Lane Kiffin was at USC he offered an 8th grade QB in 2010. That was David Sills who wound up as a WR at WV. Early offers are nothing new. My point is you can't count on them eventually signing with you. Maybe they do but having a high level of confidence isn't wise in my opinion.

What I don't understand is why waste your time even looking at the recruiting page if you have such an opinion? All you have to do is pop over in December and February and listen to Herman talk about the class he just signed.

This is like hating sex, but watching porn.

I can be interested in recruiting and not consider a commitment to be a mortal lock at the same time.

To be clear I'm talking mostly about a recruiting class 2 or more years down the road.

Does anyone know what % of recruits committed to D1 schools sign with their original committed school? Seems like the number has to be pretty high like over 80%.

I know kids decommit all the time from smaller schools when bigger schools finally show interest.

    You guys should read this.
    Field Guide to The Contrarian

Running counter to established norms can sometimes backfire, however, when it comes to navigating interpersonal situations. Contrarians—low in agreeableness on the Big Five personality scale—are not concerned about social graces. While contrarians often see themselves as righteous defenders of truth, others may experience them as crotchety pot-stirrers. "In the movie Twelve Angry Men, a lone juror disagrees with the group and a grumpy old man goes, 'Oh, there's always one,'" Rios says. "It's a perfect depiction of how a lot of people feel about contrarians."

You do remember how "12 Angry Men" ended right? I take being compared to Henry Fonda in that movie as a compliment
