I have been reading Hornfans for over a year, decided it was time I joined. We lived in Austin for a number of years (and were women's bb season ticket holders the entire time) but now live out of state. I enjoy reading the posts, and in fact get most of my information regarding recruits, players, etc. from here. I find the various opinions interesting, but don't care for the name-calling and bickering that goes on. I thought this thread was about Sedona?

I'd like to add that, of all the teams I follow, the Texas women's bb team is the one closest to my heart. Whatever your opinion of LHN, it does give me the chance to watch the home games (other sports in addition to wbb), and I'm grateful to have it, and grateful to the posters on Hornfans for the information and opinions!

FYI.....this will be my last post about this topic. A couple of days ago I made a post about this situation and gave my opinion on the issue that angered some folks to which some people feel I questioned Sedona’s character. I would like to apologize to anyone who was offended by this post that has seemed to start a thread of hate among people. This post has been deleted. I wish Sedona and her family luck wherever she lands. I am a passionate fan, sometimes too much just like kurupt and brnkj. At the end of the day we want this team to succeed, even if we have different points of view of how it will happen. Hopefully this will put a stop to the back and forth bickering and we can move on. Good luck to the ladies this upcoming season and Hook em

Agreed! Unfortunately, people on these threads get more offended when giving facts or opinions of other adults, yet seem to think it’s okay to bash young (kids) ladies. It is hard enough on these student athletes as it is with everything they have to endure and the constant hatred they encounter since being elite at a young age. For people to continue to critique, ridicule, judge, or whatever else is being done on here does not make sense and I’m very glad you clarified that because she will succeed anywhere and the Texas program whether now or later will be successful in its own right as well, it’s TEXAS!

One of the members on here mentioned first impressions, and my first impression of this site was not a good one based off of what I was hearing and reading about kids, but just as Ball Is Life has done, you DO get a second chance to make a first impression, and we are all in agreement, Keep it POSITIVE or keep it moving!

Until the NCAA quits giving waivers, this transfer thing is getting ridiculous in women's basketball. One year here, one year there, no let me try this other place.... how come so many players (not just here) are so unhappy? Everyone should have to sit out a year when they transfer, except only in the most extenuating circumstances. The whole trend is weird. What happened to team spirit, buying into something and sticking with it? Plain old loyalty?

I'll say that coaches will say anything to a recruit to get them to their campus. Many times kids have 24 hours or less on campus or in the city to decide if they want to spend the next four or five years there. That's not much exposure and once they are on campus for a few months some warts are exposed.

Imagine if you had to get married after only going on one date and then could only get other information through the internet over the next few months to help decide.

I'm not a fan of the transfer portal as it is and I'm not a fan of holding a kid hostage if he doesn't like where they are. Something has to change but I'm not sure what that change should be.

Outside of a coaching change, I hear what you are saying. However, if the players are on the level to be considered by upper-level universities, they have been traveling and visiting across the region, if not the country, for 4 plus years. More importantly, they have a very good idea of what will be expected of them.

I believe I believe it is a combination of "homesickness" and coming to the realization that they are not the dominating force as they were in high school/AAU. It is hard for anyone, much less and 18-20 year old, to accept the fact that there is someone better on your team.

I agree the whole transfer thing is getting out of hand. I'm not speaking of this situation or any other in particular, but just in general.

I hear others disagree with the idea that Texas wouldn’t clear her to play....Does anyone have any idea why Sedona put in her post “for medical reasons” in regards to her transfer decision? Also, regarding transfers in general, the protocols do seem to be pretty loose...seems to invite mass exodus,,,:confused2::confused2:

I agree that the NCAA has allowed this transfer thing to get out of hand. They also seem to be doing nothing to rectify the situation, appearing to sit back to “watch the fireworks.” Whatever happened to identifying a problem and seeking a resolution?

Because they feel a need to give a reason and there are always 2 reasons, the one that sounds good and the real reason. Pretty easy to determine which one this is.

In my opinion it doesn't matter how much these kids have traveled around. Limited direct exposure to a university and it's staff when you're being begged to come to a school leads to kids not understanding what's really going on or what will happen once they arrive.

I do agree the shock of not being the best is real and hard to accept for most of these athletes who have worked hard but have been coddled most of their lives. There's nothing that can be said on a one day visit to get a kid to understand that everyone here is like them. That's why the portal rules have to be changed to give the coach a chance to talk with the kids before they enter the portal.

I also think some are arrogant and just like the attention it brings.

    I don’t have
IMO players should be allowed to transfer without having to sit out a year but that will probably never happen because coaches are getting paid too much many off of the players. I don’t really have a problem with players transferring because they only have 4 years of eligibility to get it right.

You’re right about the players once they get to college and the competition factor. Which is why I always say, that it doesn’t matter how good you were in high school once you get to college.

I really think the recruits should live on campus a week or maybe 3 days during the summer. Let them get a taste of conditioning and one on one competition with their potential teammates. See if there's any chemistry, etc. Send them to class with their teammates. Make them take notes and have the team tutor, I guess that's what they call them review and set the expectation for what's expected of a student athlete.

I never thought it was fair to sit out a year simply because coaches don't have to sit out a year. Maybe adopt a one transfer no penalty clause for all student athletes. A 250 word explanation on why you want to transfer and why you're transferring to the 2nd school. The 2nd transfer will come with strict guidelines and penalty, like lose a year of eligibility.

And reward those who stay all 4 years with a reward like a turquoise cord at graduation proven their loyalty, grit, longevity, dependability, etc. Something they can add to their resume.

I'm just brainstorming. But there has to be a better way to handle it.

Is there a way we (moderators) could color code responses based on if the comment is actually related to the post or some ad hominem attack? Would really help those of us (like me) who are trying to only participate/comment on actually related posts and content.

If the transfer truly is for medical reasons, how is she going to be medically cleared to play at wherever she transfers to?

Is there some special doctor or medical facility (not in Austin) that she needs access to? Will she transfer to Houston because they have better doctors and a world class medical center...? It doesn't seem to add up. A pretext for the real reason...?

There are those who attack every opinion that differs from their own, and there are those who retaliate. There wouldn't be one without the other. We ALL need to stop.
