Heard on the radio that illegal immigration is a 2.3 BILLION dollar industry in Mexico. The coyotes charge $3000-$10,000 per person to transport illegals up to the U.S. border. So, much for these people being poor and destitute. There were plenty of times in my younger years I didn't have $3,000.

The drug smugglers make another $180-200 million in road taxes for letting coyotes use their drug smuggling routes. The harder the U.S. makes it to get in, the more they charge.

Just go with it Deez. It just sounds right for Chuckie Schumer.

Chuckie and the Democrats fiddle while Rome burns. Actually they do more than fiddle, they pour gasoline on the fire.

Wait 'til the first Ebola case hits the U.S. care of some African "migrant". Already there are 1,000 measles cases this year (and don't try to tell me it's all on the anti-vaccers). TB making a big come back. Even cases of the black plague. Welcome to the middle ages! The U.S. is officially a third-world ****-hole.

According to urban dictionary and similar sites, a twatwaffle is defined as "a contemptible person". Frankly, I can't think of a more fun way to convey that sentiment.

According to NBC, That noted Trump supporting network:rolleyes1:
"In showing reporters the single sheet of folded paper, Trump said he could not yet show the contents of the document because he wanted to let Mexico announce the agreement "at the right time."

It appears Mexico decided to release it, just like Trump said they would do.
Maybe Carlos and others should get facts before doing trying to bash him on this .

I read the one page agreement; they will agree to talk about the problems and see if they can't agree on something suitable to all involved.

I once agreed to quit defaming a girl friend if she would give me back all the property I left at her apartment. Didn't happen.

This is a cover your azz agreement in principle and about as enforceable as a promise to love your 17 year old girl friend forever and ever and ever.

It guarantees they will keep talking and acting like they are or will do something about some kind of problem or problems as each side understands it/them.

Maybe something good will come of this or maybe Trump played Mexico and now Mexico is playing Trump is playing Mexico.

So long as the various partisans are secure in their prejudices everything is ok.

It appears Mexico is agreeing to immediately start looking at its laws and regs to see what might need to be addressed to fix up whatever problems might exist. I breathe easier knowing this. What a fugging accomplishment this is!!!!

Talk about diplomatic skills!!! So impressed

Makes it easier for Trump to raise tariffs again if Mexico reneges without fear of GOP voting against him. This is about protecting his rear forces. Please think outside the box

Agree! How could Trump not instantly solve this problem based on all of the help Democrats are providing. Wait a whole 45 days? What a bunch of horse apples! We want it nowwwww daddy!

The Mexicans agreed to talk after President Bonespur got calls from the business community and the Republicans in Congress

    This was thinking outside reality

You guys might spend some time reading the WSJ instead of listening to cable news

The Mexicans monitor calls between the business community, Congress, and Trump? Then they ask to talk? Strange.....

The Mexicans came too a paper agreement to think about doing something to let Bonespurs to back off after this nation's manufacturing sector raised the congress with complaints about what a really horrible this move was.

I like a lot of what Bonespurs wants to do but his methods are often buffoonish

I like the last paragraph----after the first 45 days the Mexicans get another 45 if Trump isn't happy with the status. If I was drafting a settlement agreement for a client like this one I would be laughing my azz off and regaling friends over drinks about the idiot on the other side. Bonespurs advisors are just hoping everybody will forget this idiocy.......they know he will

That phrasing is common in commercial
contracts. It’s a called a “cure” period where one party has extra time to fix a breach in the agreement. It’s often done when external factors may impact one party’s ability to meet its contractual obligations.

I've drafted such agreements and they are used often: in this context it allows the Mexicans and the US a grace period to keep talking while doing nothing.

I know enough about Mexican politics (equally xenophobic with our own) to know that no politician down there can be seen bowing to the US and particularly not to a clown who defames their country with regularity.

The tariff gambit would be fine if the only party affected was Mexico, but it isn't. US companies with thousands of jobs depend on work done on their products in Mexico to assemble parts etc. If we make a car and some parts are made in Mexico or some of the assembly work is done there then the cost is passed on to consumers and the employees of the company here pay a price as well

That is what our manufacturers and the WSJ and other sane elements were telling Bonespur and why he created this 'SECRET' FIG LEAF to buy some time to back down or for the Mexicans to come up with some token effort to stem the flow.

Given that it is Uncle Sam doing the lifting here, I would guess that the US will end up paying Mexico to make some effort to stanch the flow from Guatemala.

Whatever they do I hope they do it fast because even the NYT is now reporting that the flow from AFRICA has started. There are a lot more potential refugees from there than from Central America.

    What a ride!!!!!

It's more of the infamous 4D Chess! Of course, this new talking point isn't mentioned among the victory laps on page 1 of this thread.

Just once it would me nice to read a mea culpa recognizing you were suckered with the Trump spin and the reality is more WTF.

The reality: Trump had GOP Senators (and Corporate America) ready to quickly override Mexico tariffs and needed a face saving maneuver. The letter has no specific commitments. Let's disregard that DJT stood on the lawn of the White House and proclaimed this single page letter was "1 page of a very long and very complex agreement."

Mexico appears to understand the Trump admins emphasis on immigration. Time will tell but the theatrics are laughable and the defenses posited here are ludicrous.
