Dwight Jefferson was a district judge in Houston. I remember DKR noting after the '77 OU game that he "played like a man possessed" or something like that, which was Darrell's first season after his retirement.
Last one today. #80 All SWC Dan Mauldin and Tim Doerr close in on Arkansas’ Jim Lindsay in 1964. Dan’s father Stan was an All-American for the Horns on those great early 40s teams and his younger brother Stan was an all-conference linebacker in 1970. #79 Terry Tausch. Like our previous #79, this New Braunfels product was recruited as a tight end and grew into an All-American offensive tackle.
Here's Tony Hills again, this time on a trading card. A converted TE and an awesome athlete at OT. I like these TE athletes who bulk up into an OT role. They often don't seem to lose their footwork/semi-skill position quickness even when 40 lbs (or more) bigger.
Blake Brokermeyer Quick story. Spring Break 92' in South Padre Island. A bunch of Aggies had an ATM Flag and a keg on the beach. Blake and I took offense to that and he had about 6 other starters from that 92' team with him. I had some big guys with me. So we went to a gift shop and bought a pirate flag, planted it in the sand. Pretty soon Blake and another Lineman were picking up the girls over their heads and putting them back down gently. Before you know it most of the bikini clad girls came over to our flag and keg and the Aggies were left stranded......Poor Aggies! PS. His Dad and my Dad were good friends at UT back in the early 60's and have kept up through the years. I think they were fraternity brothers.
Totally agree...just wish his career at Texas hadn't been so short. Brockermeyer is one of my all time favorite road graders to have worn burnt orange
Stan Mauldin. All-American lineman from Amarillo. Flew 25 combat missions in WWII. Member Texas Sports HOF. Staley Faulkner Member of the 1963 National Championship team. The story is he was so far down on the depth chart when he joined the team (one of 17 tackles recruited in his signing class) he had trouble finding a helmet that fit. He resorted to borrowing a helmet from Denton HS (Horns Illustrated).
That's why I like this thread so much. It kind of jogs the memory. 77 is really a special number for the Horns.

I try not to get my hopes up until T-50 days. Then, we have B12 media days, start of practice, etc. On the downslope too.
#74 Dallas Wilson’s Joe Shearin.... ..... leading A.J. Jones on a sweep. All-conference guard and team captain in 1981. Played in the League and is currently a criminal defense attorney in Dallas. There are other players who wore 74 who doubtless will be mentioned today, but Joe is a reminder of the days when a dominant offensive line was common on the 40, rather than a question mark or, as in the recent past, a weakness on the team. If we’re not there yet, I’m confident we’re getting there soon.
