According to ESPNW, a 6-foot-3 forward at Mainland Regional High School (Linwood, New Jersey) and the No. 18 prospect in the espnW HoopGurlz Super 60 for the 2020 class, has given a verbal commitment to Oregon. Watson becomes the fifth top-40 prospect in the 2020 class to commit to the Ducks. She is set to join No. 11 Sydney Parrish, No. 22 Angela Dugalic, No. 23 Maddie Scherr and No. 40 Te-Hina Paopao on a Ducks team that made it to the Final Four in April.

No surprise that Graves is putting together a really good recruiting class with the success that Oregon has had recently. Also no surprise that he recruits players that are highly skilled offensively.

I honestly thought she might stay close to home (Arky) considering the new coach has generated some buzz around the program. Guess not. Doesn’t seem like UT was too involved other than a couple of visits.

Well........I need to move on from the depressing Prince thread. So need some hope that someone out there knows where a big center is hiding out. With Holmes in the WNBA, our posts right now will be Collier and Hanna in 2020. There is an opening for 2 posts hopefully...but for sure 1. With Gusters up I35, I am at a loss who will be on the radar soon. Any thoughts?

I think the Coaching staff has the entire year to find out. I think they’ll look at all the options including the transfer market after this year.

In a quick review of 2020 top 60 players from ESPNW, there are slim options for true posts. Cardosa is number 5 but no discussion of any interest. L Ware from North Dakota at number 29 has been mentioned on here but she can’t decide between BB and VB. There are a lot of uncommitted wings with some size as most bigger players want to be considered more than a true post. Angel Reese at 2 is an example and she has been mentioned as an option. LOTS of top programs after her. Perhaps an international player or transfer or JUCO may be best option. There are minutes to be had so there will be a taker somewhere. Just wish the plan was clearer. Guess that’s the nature of the beast in college sports.

2021 Aaliyah Moore will be one of the main recruits for the 4/5 position. I believe we were the first school to offer her a scholarship. Aaliyah had a great season last year and has received a bevy of offers over the past year. Now that she has made the roster of the USA U17 team, she'll be one of the top players in the nation. She attended our elite camp last year.

For 2020, we have an offer out to Lauren Ware, a center out of North Dakota. She is a two sport star and will be looking to play volleyball and basketball in college. I don't believe she has visited Texas.

Will put this here for 2020; CF is "Cy-Fair" I believe. 2021 Aaliyah Moore's (OK) Mom liked the tweet, so assuming she could be in attendance today.

I believe this is the player that is seriously considering playing volleyball as well. I hoped she spent some time with the VB staff while down here.

I do not think many athletes have excelled recently at both sports while playing at a high Division 1 school, but Peyton Williams is doing it at Kansas State. Williams is also excelling academically.

Lauren Ware would be a big boost to the 2020 recruiting class. As a post, she would fill a position that is a priority for the team. Currently, Prospects Nation has her listed as the 13th best player in the nation and the 4th best post in the 2020 class.

Since she wants to play basketball and volleyball in college, Texas is one of the only schools under consideration that is highly ranked in both sports. We could also offer her significant minutes as a true freshman.

Here are some interesting blurbs from a recent article from ESPN.

There's also rarely a day when Ware isn't working on one of her two sports. She already has won three North Dakota Gatorade Player of the Year awards -- two in basketball and one in volleyball. She also has won five state titles, including three in volleyball.

"Colleges are giving me the option," said Ware, who is interested in majoring in business, management or communications. "At first I thought I would've decided by now which sport I wanted to play in college. But I can't decide.

She is the No. 38 prospect in the espnW HoopGurlz Super 60 for the 2020 class. Last month, she announced her 10 college finalists: Arizona, Arizona State, Florida, Iowa, LSU, Minnesota, Nebraska, NC State, Oregon and Texas.

Ware, who made second-team all-state in basketball as a freshman, averaged 17.1 points, 11.4 rebounds, 3.9 blocks and 2.1 assists as a sophomore, winning her first Gatorade award and leading Century to a 26-1 record and the Class A state title.

As a junior, she averaged 17.3 points, 11.1 rebounds, 4.6 blocks and 2.1 assists, leading Century to a 27-0 record and another basketball state championship.

Basketball, volleyball and a bucket full of ice for two-sport recruit Lauren Ware

In one of the photos, she is wearing a Volleyball jersey. So, I'd assume she visited with the volleyball folks.

It doesn't happen very often. Sara Hattis tried it at Texas.

Back in the day, Natalie Williams at UCLA and Kristin Folkl and Stanford excelled in both.

For Texas, we had Destinee Hooker competing at the highest level in both volleyball and T&F's high jump; she is a true natural talent.

She’s also taken an official visit to Nebraska. So it seems that those are two of her finalist hopefully we have a realistic chance to get her.

There are a couple of highly ranked in state girls on the Prospects Nation ranking that we have heard very little about?
Pricilla Williams plays at Seven Lake HS, Katy and DeYona Gaston plays at Pearland HS. I know the recruiting information is hard to come by for WBB but wonder who is involved with their recruitment? Pricilla has Minnesota and Louisville as home visits on her twitter but nothing else. I see that Priscilla is listed on the ESPN ranking as from Branson, Mo. She must be a new move in to Texas?

If I’m not mistaken Williams has gone back and forth from Texas to Missouri and has gone to a few different schools. DeYona Gaston is a player that the staff knows very well. I think there was a post a while back of her wearing a Texas shirt but I have no idea what her recruitment looks like.

If Lauren Ware does indeed play both sports at the same time, and she attends a school that performs well in Volleyball, she likely will miss the beginning of every basketball season. I can't imagine a person playing (significantly) on a volleyball team and then leaving the team to go play basketball during championships season.

I wonder if her plan is to play both sports but not in the same season?

But all of the volleyball programs would love to have her if she is planning to play both. It's a free roster spot for them since her scholarship would count against WBB totals.

There have been a handful of legendary two-sport VB players at Texas. Conference Athlete of the Year Erin Aldrich was a top VB player and 4-time NCAA high jump champion (and also a part of four NCAA T&F team championships). The first was Jo Beth Palmer (VB - 1st team All-Conference, and T& F - NC Discus Top 5 and Team Champion). At about the same time Nell Fortner was a top VB and BB player, leading the VB squad to its first NC, and the BB team to their highest ever national ranking. And of course, the great Sharon Neugebauer, a VB and T&F All-American who led both programs to national championships. Sharon and I were in high school at the same time, and our respective schools had an intense VB rivalry. There have probably been plenty of two-sport athletes, and perhaps even a few more who were a part of the VB program. But the above didn't just participate in two sports; they were all stars in both.

    Hi
But it is more difficult to do both volleyball and bb the same season since the days of Nell Fortner. You used to see wbb players bagging groceries at HEB in the summer during those days too. Not saying it can’t be done. Missing early season b-ball is tricky. Could work since Texas should still have Charlie overlapping 2 yrs and Ashlee for 3.

According to ESPNW, Angel Reese has reduced her list from 10 to 5. She declined an invitation to try out for the USA Basketball U19 team so she could spend one last summer with her AAU team, has narrowed her college list from 10 to five. She will take her official visits to Maryland, South Carolina, Southern Cal, Syracuse and Tennessee

Texas held their team camp yesterday and Westlake, with commit Shay Holle, took the title.

I'm going to guess that Ware ends up at Minnesota or Nebraska. Both schools are closer to home (South Dakota) and their current rosters are in need of players who play the 4/5 position. Currently Oregon's roster has the following players who play the 4/5 position. Ware may not get as much playing time as a freshman if she commits to Oregon.

    6’5” RS Freshman Nyara Sabally
    6’4” Junior Satou Sabally
    6’6” Junior Lydia Giomi
    6’5” Freshman Lucy Cochrane
    6’4 Senior Ruthy Hebard

If Texas ends up getting Ware's commitment, major kudos are due to Aston & Co. for signing a player from South Dakota over Oregon, Minnesota and Nebraska.
