No one had ever heard of or knew what Puma was. They sent soccer shoes with the little cleats that were not changeable. The backs changed our cleats at halftime. Adidas was only known for their track shoes.

I've always believed that the kangaroo company would have been a huge success if they fixed the heel cup. They were light, soft, very comfortable, not as stylish as the XPs, but they wouldn't make it through a practice much less a game.

Kaepa outdoes a classic and creates a world-class football cleat for UT securing the company a 99 year contract. Recruits flock to campus to catch even a sneak peak of the double laced goodies up close and the wins soon follow. Tom Herman is seen 'throwing his laces up' in an impromptu rap video after celebrating 3 straight wins over Oklahoma.

    I have seen the future.

Man I remember when those Kaepas where THE THING in the 80s.

All I know is they hold up way better than Nikes in my use. I haven't bought a Nike shoe in about 25 years cuz they fall apart too easily. I guess this is not a concern for athletes who get a new pair every game.

Some of the older guys will remember that Reebok's logo used to incorporate the Union Jack. Talk about a symbol of slavery. The British, along with the Spanish, Portuguese, French, Dutch and Arabs taught us everything we needed to know about slavery.

We should switch to New Balance. Their high end shoes are actually made in the USA.

There are roughly 43 Million blacks in America today. Let's say they each have on average 10 work/school/public encounters with white Americans each day. Out of 430 MILLION interactions on a daily basis, you and your like focus all your attention on the handful of bad actors that make it on CNN. The VAST majority of daily interactions between blacks and whites on a day-in/day-out basis are peaceful and likely even positive.

Are there racists...absolutely. (Quite frankly you come off as one.) BUT you will never be rid of racism and tribalism when dealing with people. I would go so far to say that the tribalism and vitriol between democrats and republicans is of much greater anger and aggression than almost all of what is seen between white and black these days.

Even among populations that are all black, there is hatred between the two tribes (Tutsi/Hutu among many other examples).

New Balance should absolutely take advantage of this opening. I've outlawed Nike crap in my house since last year.

New Balance shoes are far better than Nike. I haven't bought a pair of Nikes in decades. They are just an empty brand that pours millions into marketing. Their product is overpriced crap.

When I played I wore the SpotBilt black cleats. They had wide white stripe on side with 3 small holes showing black. Sr. year wore the Kangaroo skin version that were much lighter. Later switched out for Riddel XL's that were even lighter - loved 'em. I say go back to the Riddel XP's and XL's.

Pistol Pete Pedro, the poster boy for SpotBilt as the leading rusher in college football a couple of years at West Texas State.

The first of their three rushers - Pedro, Duane Thomas, Mercury Morris, all three from Greenville HS, which was also the home of a lesser known player that has a stadium in Knoxville named after him.

"Phat Phil" is about as kind as you can be about that backstabbing son of a *****. He is the kind of trash that would seek to take General Neyland's name off the stadium and rename it after himself.

Neyland. I'm sorry, I didn't know what the stadium at Tennessee was named.

New Balance makes Dad Shoes. If the shoe/apparel company does have an impact on recruits I strongly encourage UT to shelve Nike in favor of New Balance.

The fact that we're actually discussing sneakers in this context just illustrates how far we've come. People are truly running out of things to get offended by.

I wonder what actual slaves would think of this. They were getting whipped and beaten while forced to pick cotton for free, and people today ***** and bellyache about a flag being embroidered on a sneaker. Just a little perspective, folks.

Lessee ... all this high-mighty moral standard ... yet those who produce these shoes/et al ... are slaves.

I'll not wear (which means PURCHASE for personal use) another licensed UT apparel with the slave-labor-produced company logo on it. I DO have my 2004 fitted baseball cap ... and that logo is covered.

New Balance. Made in USA and superior performance.

I disagree that Nike runs slave labor. There are lots of reasons cheap international labor exists in the world today, mostly it is an artifact of history.

However, I bought Adidas for the first time ever when my Nike shoes wore out. I won't be buying Nike again because they pulled the Betsy Ross shoe.

Good to hear about New Balance. This is the second time I heard about them recently. I will try them sometime too.

    Mona,

I have never really been a tennis shoe person, much preferring boots or loafers. For years I kept a pair of Adidas just case. I owned one pair of free Pony shoes given to me by a certain NFL RB with a Pony contract. My first pair of Nike shoes were a gift from an FBI agent who had a special deal with Phil Knight back in the early days of the company.

The entire goofer-neck deal has caused me to reject any additional Nike purchases - the shoes, the "hidden contract" worth millions, etc.

Adidas walked into the PNG Superintendent's office with an offer to rebrand the school with new equipment, uniforms for athletics, band, drill team, mascot, etc. Fortunately, Ronnie told them that "We have pride, we have tradition, we have a Treaty", get the f**k out of my school, out of my town, out of my county, and out of my state. He suggested that the DPS arriving to escort them take them across the Sabine River, because if they headed to Houston, there was a resident there whose mother negotiated that Treaty, and if he found out, they might have difficulty making it past Anahuac. I would buy Nike before anything Adidas.

After dancing with a mare at the ranch, I have had seven surgeries on my leg and foot, plus two back surgeries. The doctors want me out of my boots and in tennis shoes (will never happen). Every one of them recommended New Balance. Because of a temporary brace, I need a 4E, which New Balance makes. Never owned New Balance, but after a couple of months, I highly recommend you try a pair.

My issue with New Balance is that the fabric inside the heel tears up in about 6 months leading to the heel cushion being destroyed every time. I love the extra wide sizes they produce, but I grew tired of having to buy a new pair twice a year. Like others, I say F Nike, and F Kaepernick. Asics work for me.

No Nike no more. Going back to New Balance is an option I hadn’t considered but will. Guess I’m kinda French and Italy with Merrill and Saucony, but got some Hokas I liked from daughter last year.

Aight ... so the "Boots" footwear lineup ...
already know New Balance athletic shoes (904s IIRC) (for when I pretend I'm athletic)
    Luchese dress boots
... Actually ... Ariat boots for the ranch (I know, but they've lasted the longest!)
    Merrils "all purpose" and hiking
    Danner Pronghorn hunting
    Cabellas moccasin around the house

The low end NBs like they sell at Academy do not last long. But the high end ones are very durable.
