Don't be so hard on the poor guy. You'll take away the entertainment value if you make him actually defend his benighted opinions.

I heard the same thing about UGA in the Sugar Bowl. Hell, I believed it myself on that one. This go 'round, not so much.

In their defense, the 'fanbase' does have a history of being rather fickle with the 'what have you done for me lately' mentality.

However, outside of a repeat of Route 66, I agree with you that a loss will NOT be something that spawns a demand for a recall of Herman.

Texas will be in good shape as long as they remember that they need to bring their A game and that, possibly unlike Georgia, LSU will show up with a modicum of motivation. Also, Texas needs to remember that there are SOME teams in the mighty SEC-SEC-SEC that can actually play four quarters of good ball...LSU isn't aggy.

LSU will take Texas lightly just like Georgia did, and it will cost them.

    1. they will be in game 2 of installing a new offense.
    2. They are used to playing teams with quick receivers, but guys like Collin Johnson and Malcolm Epps will be a handful for them.
    3. I fully expect Texas to win the turnover battle.
    4. Texas will get more than 4 sacks in this game.
    5. Ogeron will be challenging his team to a fight at half time.
    6. Texas will out rush the LSU offense behind a dominate offensive line.
    7. Final Score: Texas 41 Lsu 14
    8. There will be some very loud calls for a coach to be fired, but it won't be Tom Herman.

Everything about this win will be all about Yancy McKnight. Texas will beat them up because they are bigger and stronger than the bayou kittens.

I can see us getting 41, but I see to many ??? on defense to believe only 14 for LSU.

38-31 is what's showing up in my crystal ball.

Hell, you couldn't even beat aggy last year! So I'm not worried. But hopefully your little tiggers will finish licking the wounds we inflict before you play aggy at home this year.

Our performance in the Sugar Bowl was pretty much the total opposite of a rude awakening for longhorn fans but whatever.

And you chose not to quote the first sentence of my post which is undeniably positive. Gee I wonder why.

But they tried their little tigger hearts out going to what 16 OT's? I think I caught a glimpse of Mike in the tv background of one of the OT's squeezing his nuts seeing if that really works. His facial expression didn't change, but inside I bet he was dying just a little.

The only real weakness in our defense going into next year is the depth we have at linebacker. Other than that, This team is reloading on defense. I will admit we will experience some growing pains at corner but our corners are so talented they will catch up pretty quick. Also don't forget our safeties will erase a lot of mistakes made in the secondary.

This is my guess at the starting 11 on defense next year using a 3-3-5 defense.
    DE - Malcolm Roach
    DE - Ta'Quon Graham
    NT - Keondre Coburn

    LB - Jeffrey McCulloch
    LB - Ayodele Adeoye
    LB - Joseph Ossai

    CB - Anthony Cook
    CB - Jalen Green
    NB - BJ Foster
    SS - Caden Sterns
    FS - Brandon Jones.

That defense doesn't have too many weaknesses. There are a lot of guys not listed as starters that will be making huge contributions such as DeMarvion Overshown, Josh Thompson, Kobe Boyce, Jacoby Jones, Marquez Bimage, Moro Ojomo, Gerald Wilbon, Jamari Chisholm, Daniel Carson, Marcus Tillman, and Caleb Jones.

Notice I didn't even mention any of our true freshmen in that group. I'm not worried about our defense, we have plenty of talent

I had the Horns against Georgia. I think we mop the floor with LSU. We always do well against conventional offenses. Yes, LSU is trying to go air raid, but it will be a fail. Mark it.
I see us struggling a little bit with La. tech, because we also do that historically with lesser opponents.

I agree. I think we have all seen first hand what happens when a head coach and a coordinator don’t have the same mindset. At best you get mediocrity.

I am worried about our Defense though. Outside of Roach, and our law firm of Foster, Sterns and Jones I see a lot of very green players. Great upside to a lot of them. But even the great ones have growing pains.

Our defensive front is strong and stout. We won't be pushed around. As noted above, the secondary should be a strength (CB depth notwithstanding). McCulloch could be the key to the whole operation, and he really came on strong during the second half of last year. The starting LBs need to stay healthy--that's my main concern. In a pinch, one of our stronger/harder-hitting safeties like BJ Foster or Overshown could spin down to OLB.

Also, against power running teams (which LSU may revert back to if their newfound wide-open passing offense stalls), Bimage could play a hybrid DL/LB type role to add more bulk to the front as needed.

We will show up and show up big and ready to play just like Herman always does when he faces a team that the masses think will beat us but we will more than likely look like crap against Louisiana Tech the week before. It’s the gift and the curse of Tom Herman but I’m going 31-24 :hookem:. It’s going to be an electric Saturday I hope gameday shows up

I hear you. Sometimes it seems we're like those old Tom Landry Dallas Cowboys teams that played up (or down) to the level of their competition, often just barely pulling out a squeaker to win most weeks.

We need a few blowouts to get the backup QBs some game time.

I come in peace and enjoy good banter and talking football. So after ready a few posts in this thread I’d figure I’d chime in.

I honestly know very little about Texas or what they are returning. I hear they lost a lot of starters. That to me isn’t a big deal if the new starters are just as talented. We shall see. I can give you some insight on LSU. A few of my observations so far is this is the most talented defense we’ve had since probably 2011. I just don’t see Texas putting 41 points on this defense. Having Chaisson back is huge. Guy has legit first round grades if he comes back strong from his ACL injury. He’s had a great spring. The Dline is very talented and has depth. What I’m really impressed with is the linebackers. I don’t think we’ve had this much talent at that position in a long time and that’s with losing White to the draft. Defensive backfield is loaded as well and really want to see Stingley. Kid has the potential to be better than the honey badger.

The big unknown is the changes on offense and what Brady is trying implement. It won’t be a traditional archaic look on offense which is refreshing. It will be interesting to see how long it takes for the offense to gel. I’m not too concerned because the defense will be so good. I really see this game as a close contest with LSU pulling away in the fourth. I don’t see either team scoring more than 30 points.

Texas really only lost a lot of starters on defense. But Texas is bringing back a lot of guys that played a heck of a lot last year. The strength of the Texas defense is the secondary. We have 5 guys back there with legit high NFL potential. Our safeties are the best in the country as a unit. Corners will be first time starters but they are both Elite. I just don't see your offense being ablle to pass on the Texas defense. Texas does very well against pocket passers.

As for the Texas offense, they like to come at a aggressive defense with plays designed to get your team second guessing. You have to always be weary of Sam taking off and running and then delivering punishing hits on your DBs. Just ask Georgia. Texas has a lot of big receivers. We have Collin Johnson who is 6'6 and Malcolm Epps who is also 6'6. These guys are strong and will over power your corners. Again, just ask Georgia. One thing Texas loves to do is keep the running backs in to block and then releasing them late for easy isolations with the Linebackers. That is a mismatch every time since our RBs are crazy fast.

Your defense is not stopping this offense, especially when Sam is in the zone. He will be the best QB you face until you face Tua. Texas beat up Georgia because they were much more physical and that is their calling card.

Texas has been disrespected all summer by guys who think only the SEC can play physical football. A lot of people are going to be disappointed after this one is over.

I don't know about this. They have a polished Qb. I think both offenses will have their success. Game should be close to the end. Maybe dicker the kicker will make the difference for us. Can't wait.

Georgia wasn’t as good as many thought. LSU abused them last year. I don’t think either defense is stopping both offenses the entire game. LSU’s defensive backfield may be the most talented part of the defense. We have two preseason all Americans back there and throw in Stingley who was a 5 star top DB recruit this year. Aranda thinks he is the best player of the bunch and he hasn’t played a game yet. This defense will be the toughest you face all year. I just don’t see Texas throwing all over LSU. What really concerns me is LSU’s offense and the complete 180 they are changing the offense this year. Per Esminger they will be doing some 5 wideout sets. That’s unheard of at LSU. Brady did learn from Sean Payton so I hope it translates at LSU.
I really think this is going to be a low scoring game for a while. Both offenses trying to figure out the defenses. Turnovers could be the difference.

    Hey LSUson,

That's a good post. I spent a lot of time in BR. I know a lot of your alumns. Good people. I respect LSU. I see no Aggie homerism in your post. That is refreshing, as for the last few months we have been trolled by this idiot poster from A&M. Please kick their asses this year. Save up for that game. Seriously. We need your help on that one. Take revenge on that 7 OT loss last year. Good Luck! Against A&M I mean.

If you look at that game. We were literally playing wide receivers as corners due to so many injuries at the end of the season. In our New Years Day Bowl was the same situation. The refs handed that game on a silver platter. I think LSU will run up the score when they play the aggies at home.

Tell me about your running backs? Any questions about LSU, just ask.

Keontay Ingram was pretty good as a freshman last year, can run and catch both well and improve as a blocker as the year went on, but he's not a guy that's made defenses think "Oh gosh we need to scheme for this guy". Usually solid, but so far only occasionally spectacular.

Daniel Young has been fairly inconsistent during his time here but strikes me as a hard worker who's gonna keep on trying. He's our biggest/strongest back, at times he's been in the rotation as a "thunder" change-up, but at other times he's fallen out entirely. Yet other times we save him for the 4th quarter when trying to preserve a lead so he can come in with fresh legs against tired defenses to grind clock. Might have gotten used more but in short-yardage situations we usually used Ehlinger as a battering ram (or tried LJ Humphrey in the wildcat) which limited Young's use there. He's actually our most/only experienced RB since the others are all either underclassmen or haven't played the position since 2016 (see below)

Kirk Johnson has missed multiple years with injury and so we have no idea if he's ever gonna be "back". He did play some on special teams last year and got his feet wet at least. Back before the injuries he was blazing fast and we're all looking forward to see what he can do, if he's ever able to get a chance.

Jordan Whittington has it all on paper, it's just a case of projecting HS to college which is always iffy. He can run around guys or through them and has both the strength and speed to end up a Jamaal Charles or Ricky Williams level of superstar by the time he's done there. Not saying he will be so, but his ceiling is that high. He's played plenty of WR also (it's just we need him at RB a lot more, we're kind of stacked at WR) so he can catch out of the backfield well too. If he can pass-block as well, he'll be the whole package.

My personal guess right now is that Ingram will get the plurality of the RB carries with a health dose of Whittington and a few totes by Young just to keep everyone fresh, while Johnson gets 2-3 off of jet sweeps or reverses to see if he can break a big one.
