Herman said if he there was a game tomorrow the starting OL would be
    Cosmi - Angilau - Shackelford - Kerstetter - Okafor
Braun currently rounds out Herman’s current top group of six.
And as previously speculated, Kerstetter is his No. 2 center

Inside Texas thinks both RB Keaontay Ingram and S Caden Sterns will be ready by Louisiana Tech.

Like, but play them wisely. If Texas cannot handle LT without them the season is sunk from the get-go.

MC Hammer we must have crossed paths around that time. I lived off North Loop and I would go jogging around the fields while they practiced hoping to see my first glimpse of the Big 3, or Simms, or Scaife, etc etc.
That was a really exciting time to be a Longhorn.

1998 - 2000 was an exciting time to be a Longhorn no doubt. I for one am just as excited this year for the first time since then. It's deja vu. Maybe I am getting ahead of my self, I feel 31 again! What can I say.....

A good sign if Parker is #6....would not have been case in any recent years.

I guess the possibility is still there for him to RS
He (or his dad I think) mentioned he would not mind cross-training at center in an attempt to increase his draft value

How does that (red-shirting) work with a transfer?
Here is an article after he chose TEXAS that lends support to my point...basically written on basis of an assumption that he would start immediately.

Braun is a returning 1st team all conference (ACC) lineman. The catch: in the GT system, run blocking was almost all he ever did. This doesn't mean he sucks at pass blocking, it just means he lacks much college experience at pass blocking. I would think that his skill set will make him at least a pretty good pass blocker with some reps and experience (while remaining an outstanding run blocker--best on the team if not the conference). Braun also has to learn the calls, scheme, plays, etc.

Note Herman's phraseology here -- "If there was a game tomorrow ..." (in other words, it's anticipated that this may change) Fall Camp is still in it's youth. Herman knows he has a high-level stud OL in Braun, and it's only a matter of time before he's starting here, and probably making all conference in the Big XII. His ceiling is All American and a high round draft pick.

Okafor is strong and athletic, but his play has been a bit spotty at times. Maybe he's got it all together now? I hope he does, and I'm rooting for him.

In the meantime, I wouldn't mind seeing Braun in there, with Kerstetter kicking out to the RT position.

"And as previously speculated, Kerstetter is his No. 2 center" -- Ghirmai is young and athletic, but his snapping the ball in the Spring game didn't exactly inspire much confidence as the backup C.

I wonder how (and if) Big Willie fits in.

Meanwhile, Hookfin reported in at 305 lbs (and with a huge fro to top off his 6'5" stature :headbang:), so put to rest any concerns regarding his size. Hopefully we can shirt him, but I see a very bright future in this one.

The kid was the best player at GT the last two years. He can be a great help, BUT under Paul Johnson he was expected to chop block every play - knees and ankles, take em out mentality. That's not going to fly under Herman.

Kid has talent and will contribute, but needs to be reprogrammed.

I think its that if he never used it, its still available to him
But the comment above was just a thought, an option. It sounds like coaches expect him to play, at least as of right now in time

Some practice notes from TFB (Will Baizer)--

"Was told freshman DT, T’Vondre Sweat is going to be a monster. Sounds like he’s impressing the coaches and has already won the respect of his teammates. I don’t know that he will make a big impact this year, given who is in front of him. But it sounds like it’s just a matter of time.

Was told Green, Cook, Jamison and Boyce all took reps with the 1s but of the four CBs it sounds like Green was put in with the 1s most frequently. I suppose that’s because he will start in place of Cook (suspending) in the first game.

Heard Todd Orlando is working on finding ways to move Overshown around. I get the sense that they like the diversity of his skillset which apparently includes an ability to get to the QB. Was told he can be pretty special if Orlando finds the right way to utilize him.

Sounds like a little brawl broke out, as well. Apparently, Ossai (who is very intense) and Sam got into it and then Brennan Eagles, seeing his QB in a tussle, came flying in. A brawl ensued. Love the edge!

Freshman LB Marcus Tillman continues to impress. Apparently, things are coming to him easily because he played the same defense in high school and already has the Spring under his belt.

LB Ayodele Adeoye is looking faster than he has in the past. I was told he is looking a little bit better than Anthony Wheeler.

WR Brennan Eagles had a breakout week last week with some big receptions downfield. He’s bigger than most of the DBs and just as fast...."

Josh Thompson must be back up nickel, backing up Foster?

Yes, battling for the nickel. I always see snippets about how he is blowing people up at practices.

An unproven Head Coach, but defensive genius Bill Belichick used a similar scheme to pull off a huge upset in the Super bowl to beat “The Greatest Show on Turf” Rams. Sometimes even only rushing 2.
Patriots first Super Bowl win, and did it with a backup QB.

La Tech's game against LSU last year in Baton Rouge was very similar to our 2009-10 national championship game against Bama. LSU got way out ahead in the 2nd quarter thanks to boneheaded turnovers and poor offensive plays, but the Bulldogs chipped away at the lead for the next 1.5 quarters. They got within 3 when LSU finally got it together and turned the lights out with a long TD drive and stuffing a 4th-and-1 at midfield.

Anyone who thinks we're supposed to roll La Tech is going to be disappointed in a couple weeks. They're far better than Tulsa, Maryland, and other mid-level teams that we were supposed to handle easily.

That won't fly with a very mobile QB in college. We got killed using a 3 man front .... these crazy rush 3 or less and drop 8 etc packages will get us beat like they did vs OSU and WVU last year. The scheme we used during the first 3 qtrs vs Georgia is what we need to primarily run...If we rush 3 or less on 3rd and 8 ....the QB will simply scramble for 10 and get a new set of downs, or they will run a draw play and the RB will bust a huge gain or score.....just like in the past...See fourth qtr OU and fourth qtr Sugar Bowl for results of being out numbered up front, along with just about any play all season we rushed only 3.

    WorsterMan SEC here we come!!

I suppose Orlando / Herman are testing / experimenting with 3-0-8 or some formations that are or look similar to that in practice, but it gives me some concern... perhaps it will be used only sparingly.
