Another WR on our radar. He is an in-state who committed to tOSU early. Now in contact with us -- high 4-star Jaxon Smith-Njigba (6'1,188) from Rockwall. According to the 247Comp, he is the #8 player in Texas and #10 WR nationally. We havent spent time in here on him because he committed to them back in Nov 2018. Coaches probably should have started earlier on him, dont know why we didnt.
He has a good 37” vertical and terrific 3.91 shuttle. The comparison is Sloan Thomas. At Texas, he would be an X or maybe an H.
Sometimes the distance starts to wear on these early commits, we will see. Inside Texas thinks we can flip him with a good season.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Rockwall, Wide Receiver
"Owns above average size with a solid build. Technically sound receiver with good size and massive production against strong competition in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex playing against teams in the largest classification in Texas (Class 6A). Adjusts impressively to the ball in flight. Shows encouraging hands-catching consistency. Fairly quick off the line and effectively subtle in downfield routes. Often gets defender leaning and sells the DB one way to get separation. Possesses adequate top-end speed verified in a combine environment. Flashes impressive lateral mobility that manifests in his ability to get yards after the catch in the short and intermediate levels, as well as the screen game. Can line up in multiple spots in the formation. Drives on routes to leverage defenders into bad spots. May test a bit faster than he plays at this stage in his development. Can improve quick-twitch explosiveness, particularly in close quarters. More of a speed-builder than a burster in straight-line situations, which could affect separating ability against college DB's. High-production receiver with great consistency and a likely high floor and potential to develop into NFL Draft prospect."
