A short list on how to ruin a city in the name of ideology:
    - kicked out the banks
    - kicked out the White Russians who provided a lot of refined culture to the city (some were sent back to USSR where they were either shot or sent to Siberia)
    - kicked out the religious institutions that operated hospitals, orphanages, and centers of education such as high schools and universities
    - kicked out western scholars at secular universities
    - kicked out the Pan Am - China airlines joint venture called CNAC that flew between SF and Shanghai, plus connecting flights within China to Peking, Nanking, Hankou, Qingdao, Chongqing, Tianjin, etc.
    - kicked out large retailers and other local businesses
    - stopped trade between Shanghai and the West
    - beat and tortured Chinese musicians who played and/or composed western-style music
    - converted the city golf course to a zoo
    - converted the city horse track to a public park
    - converted churches to movie theaters
    - just to name a few.

If you see photos of Shanghai from the 1940’s through the early 1980’s, you will see not one new building was built in the city center. Like Cuba, the Chicoms lived off the residual prosperity of the city until they ruined it. Note it was the Shanghai cabal within the China commie party that ushered in the opening of China to capitalism. They literally destroyed the city before they realized their mistake.

The NYT's Thomas Friedman thinks this system is better than our system. He openly pines for it.

Just like Harry Reid, the nuclear option, the filibuster and judicial nominations. This group tends to not be able to see very far down the road.

Is the last line yet another sign the POTUS is a West Mall lurker?
What further proof do you need?

Nope. The Chinese and Hong Kong governments will tolerate this for awhile because they hope it will eventually dissipate. However, at some point, they will run out of patience and shut this down Tiannamen Square-style.

That is sad. Is this the reason the Founders wrote the first and second amendments?

I thought it was all about preserving the hunting hobby....

Oh, and the First Amendment was to keep pesky Christian values out of government.

    The irony is thick here.
They are protesting life under the same system Bernie wants to implement here.

Sanders obviously isn't stupid. How does he and his people not see this irony? It is bizarre.

Here is a VOX article (of all places) about ...
"How China used Facebook and Twitter to spread disinformation about the Hong Kong protests"
There have long been concerns about China’s social media disinformation capabilities, but we haven’t really seen them put them into action until now."
How China used Facebook and Twitter to spread disinformation about the Hong Kong protests
" .... Twitter uncovered more than 900 accounts originating from the People’s Republic of China that were “deliberately and specifically attempting to sow political discord in Hong Kong,” the company said, and an additional network of 200,000 accounts that were part of a broader spam campaign. Facebook subsequently said it found seven pages, three groups, and five accounts it believed were involved in “coordinated inauthentic behavior” out of China focused on Hong Kong. More than 15,000 accounts followed at least one of the pages, and about 2,200 joined one of the groups. Facebook’s discovery was based on a tip from Twitter...."

Joe, my question is what did Facebook and Twitter do when they found these fake accounts? Facebook is notorious for working with authoritarian regimes to out dissidents. There was one case I read where they gave up the identities of non-Muslims in Pakistan or some other country in that area. The government claimed that they were dangerous rebels. But they were just people who were criticizing Sharia laws against non-Muslims. Not sure what happened to those people, but I doubt it was good.

If Facebook and Twitter now work against China's efforts to spread propaganda, they may jeopardize their business there. So far they haven't proven willing to do that.

Weird how some US politicians want to bring "the Soviet Way" (which is not that far off from "the Chinese Way") to us
We gonna have to pass a law requiring all progressives to study history and then pass a test to prove they did so. Trust but verify, right?

Fair question I wish I could answer. Bottom line is FB/TWTR cannot be trusted
You cant even give them the benefit of "trust but verify" because the verify part with either is almost impossible

I don't trust Facebook or Twitter at all. They have shown themselves to be propagandists.

Or you can just let the Chinese economy fall apart from the fascist central control.

The main cheating is from IP theft, so Trump can devote more resources to vetting students, employees from there.

At much less cost to America.

Now you are starting to sing my tune

The yuan is at or near an 11-year low
Three of their largest banks have failed within the last 3 months.
And capital flight from Hong Kong has reached over $1B per day.
