It wasn't appropriate to post in our current threads, so here's one about college softball:
    https://www.washingtonpost.com/spor...-coach-show-college-athletes-limited-options/
When she was first suspended it seemed all the coaches and the softball publications were giving direct or implicit support, in terms of:
    1) this is due to the "softness" of players these days
    2) they all want to whine and transfer the moment their feelings are hurt
    3) this is a witch hunt by the admin in preparation to firing her because she's had a losing season for 3 years

Now with the facts out, man I'm surprised you don't see a lot of names suddenly jump to the transfer portal. There two sides of the story I suppose.

Any abuse of (and by) athletes cannot be tolerated. Yes two sides to every story and no exact definition of emotional abuse (which creates a toxic culture) doesn't help in this situation. Given the coach's age, I can see where her idea of constructive criticism would probably be seen as emotional abuse by her players most of who have been told how special they are since age 6. In the end Nebraska will have no chance but to reassign her (which effectively will be a firing).

If there's one sport who doesn't coddle their players it's softball. No one give enough of a $hit to coddle them except family. Every elite coach I've ever met is a hard a$$ on the players, but care about them as individuals and seem to work the balance of discipline and not causing a mental break down of the players.

When players have a bad attitude they are really bad and I've come across a few like that with parents to match. It would be unusual to me that a large portion of the team would revolt because they are "soft". I've seen coaches who are verbally abusive to motivate and I don't know a kid who likes playing for that. A disciplinarian who can teach is preferred by almost all elite players.

    Just my two cents.

I will defer to you Vol, but I guess that I was unlucky to pick the wrong teams to watch practices and games.

But in fact, she's going right back to her job and not getting re-assigned. The girls who "anonymously" made the comments and then in-person met with the AD....Whew, I wonder about the status of their scholarships. If it's true that this coach ordered them to explain their dating life, can you imagine the retribution she's going to dole out?

Speaking out = losing your scholarship

If she did what she's accused of doing and then the players are retaliated against then that would be awful.

I guess the results will be seen in the transfer portal, as long as one online site keeps that list updated. But if the AD took the coaches side, than he won't view any actions by the coach as retaliation - because that would imply his judgement was flawed in returning her.

I agree with you Racer, but if one of the girls calls Gloria Allred, the school will be in deep s**t if they have not not let her go. In other words, a big gamble to keep her.
