Steve Singleton is a surprising choice to say the least. Hope Coach White is right about him.

Here is some info from the Statesman article introducing him...

“Singleton has never coached a softball team before. An instructor in Minnesota’s minor leagues since 2016, Singleton spent the 2015 season as an assistant coach with the baseball team at Florida SouthWestern State College. Singleton played baseball at the University of San Diego and was the Twins’ 11th-round draft pick in 2006. Through their first 80 games this year, the Blue Wahoos were hitting a Southern League-low .226. The offense’s 730 strikeouts were the second-most in its 10-team league. The 69 homers hit by Pensacola, though, ranked second in the Southern League.“

Singleton was at the fields today too along with White and the assistant coach (can't think of her name right now). He seemed more interested in talking to other coaches than watching players. It was a little odd to me. He had a few team player profile sheets that he was holding but all day I never saw him look at the sheets nor watch any players. Maybe first day on the job and isn't really sure what he should be doing yet?

I'm sure they'll be around all day tomorrow too so I'm going to see what he does.

Here are the schools at our 4 field pod today plus a few I couldn't quite make out and didn't want to stalk...:smile1:. This is a stud stacked tourney.

    Texas
    OU
    Siena
    Arkansas
    Syracuse
    Fla St
    Auburn
    LSU
    Kentucky
    WCU
    Campbell
    Syracuse
    Arizona St
    McNeese St
    SFA
    Tennessee
    Aggy
    Kansas
    Duke
    Oklahoma State
    Penn State
    Missouri
    Illinois
    Iowa State
    Waldorf
    Cornell
    Menlo
    Wisconsin
    Montana
    Harvard
    Hesston

Not to beat a dead horse, but this is exactly why I was so mad at Clark. She was never at these events, but White and crew never miss. If you don't attend, scout and recruit these events you end up with what everyone doesn't really want.

I was looking to see if our 2020 commits are playing in Col.
Hannah Earls - playing for the Texas Dirt Divas 16u and they are in Colorado.
Divas got 2 wins yesterday! Next up: Wednesday 7/3, 2 p.m. vs. Finesse Aurora Sports Park C3. Winner advances to TV game 7/4, 7:30 p.m. Aurora Sports Park B1
Hailey Hudson - I can not find where she is playing this summer on any team?

    2021 commit
Allie Clements - playing for the Impact Gold Jazz 16u and they are also in Colorado playing in the Fireworks power pool.
Great update you gave Vol and have fun.

Portal travel will make things interesting. Also interesting that White would hire a BASEBALL guy as hitting coach....Softball hitting much different than baseball ???? I kinda remember stories about good baseball players having issues hitting a good softball pitcher. Gotta trust in White, as he has proven himself by what he did at Oregon.

Drove by McCombs to see if any sort of construction had started on the new addition for Softball. Nothing. Tweeted to CDC to see what's going on.

But the baseball developmental building is looking nice. ;)

Looking at the 2019-2020 roster, Taylor Ellsworth is listed as a Senior...not like a redshirt Junior as I was expecting. So, not taking a redshirt year for her injury last year? Regan Hathaway listed as Redshirt Senior, as expected.

Medical redshirts come after all eligibility has been used. If she is entitled to a medical she should be able to play next season also.

    Interview with Del Conte:
A Q&A with Texas Athletics Director Chris Del Conte
The part that caught my eye was:

We are trying to make sure we have unbelievable facilities for our coaches not only to train, but also to recruit the finest student athletes to the University of Texas. We are doing that with baseball, softball, the pool, the new basketball arena, football, track and field, and soccer projects — I believe we are building momentum and stability.

Obviously we can see the building rising up for baseball at the corner of MLK & Comal. I can see the hole where the outdoor swimming pool is going. And I've heard about big oak trees being relocated for the future basketball arena. In June, no action at the softball stadium. I guess when I go to the football game this coming weekend, I'll check to see if something has gotten started there.

For the recent LaTech football game, I parked at the East side garage for softball/baseball. As I passed McCombs, I saw NO sign of any construction or pre-construction. Boo!

I was in line at the concessions for the volleyball game vs. MN last night. Then I realized I was behind Del Conte. I thought about tapping him on his shoulder, but decided to just let the man enjoy himself and get his hot dog - but that didn't prevent other people from shaking his hand and saying "Hi". Later, I kicked myself for not asking, "What's up with the softball expansion?" Sheesh! I looked for him after the game, but it was too chaotic. This morning I sent him an email and copied his right hand man, Drew Martin. Hopefully, Martin gets back to me.

So interestingly enough....about two hours after I sent this note to Del Conte, he calls and leaves a message on my phone!

He tells me that there was a delay in the start of construction due to approval of the plans, because the construction will affect the street between the baseball stadium and softball (utilities probably). The good news is that work will start next week, but first it'll be mostly inside where it's not apparent from the exterior.

    Man, I love this AD.

Oh yeah, it's listed in the UT public directory:
Directory | The University of Texas at Austin
The trick is to copy his right-hand man: Drew Martin
    1) Chris Del Conte: ad@athletics.utexas.edu
    2) Drew Martin: drew.martin@utexas.edu
Last Sunday morning, I tweeted to Martin about food truck location and the midway and he responded to my tweet like in 20 minutes.

Del Conte does the handshaking and takes selfies with you. Martin does the nuts and bolts.

    Oh Man!

I mean.... Del Conte is adding a connected building to McCombs, but "new stadium"? Always thought (from TV) that their stadium was somewhat nice. It's the arms race of recruiting. I hope we get some major improvement in the near future (plus some anonymous donor as well). I suppose it takes getting into WCWS a couple of years to warrant an investment.

Coach White has said he wants to add a canopy over the seating to help with the sun and heat and to increase the noise level like he did at Oregon. If I remember correctly CDC said it wouldn’t happen right away but it would be added to the list. All the softball team needs to do is get in the WCWS a couple of years and the donations would be flowing in. That’s just how Texas works!!

Sort of a tangent: Did you know that UT provides the absolute bare minimum in terms of locker rooms to visiting teams. A few years ago, Connie had a fan thank you pre-season session and the players had to be tour guides. We were sitting in their video study "room" which used to be the visiting player's locker room. They gutted it and turned it into a video room with a giant TV. Then we went on to learn that most stadiums aren't required to give showers or lockers or anything you would typically expect to the visitors. I was...shocked. They said that when they're away like at OU, if they really wanted to, they'll be bused to locker rooms (for another sport) somewhere else on campus where they can shower and change before leaving to get on a plane. When I asked if anyone had decent locker room for visitors, they said "Kansas!"

The just have to provide restrooms and somewhere safe to store their stuff during games - which explains why you see all their backpacks out on their side of the hitting cages before games.

I thinks this answers the question on when the player development center will break ground! Elish is obviously the face of the 2020 team!
