Texas needs good setters and a libero or two.... Those two areas have been a major weakness along with poor passing and poor serving. Strong net play alone will not get Texas a Natty. We have been solid at the net for years and we keep getting knocked off because of our back row play. Elliott has to fix it to get Texas another National title.

Now that I have seen the 2 freshmen play and all will admit that they are REALLY good, I am excited about the future with the otter key players soph/freshmen. So with White a senior, I guess Madison Williams is the heir apparent for her OH spot? Only OH recruit for next fall. I remember something a month ago from the DMNews about her being a top player but can’t remember. Where is she ranked nationally? Anybody see her play? Will she be a plug and play for White? If she is an adequate replacement for White, the 2020 and 2021 teams could be salty. When Butler gets back this year the team has potential to make final four or better. It’s been 3 years since the ladies made the final four so I am hopeful.

Madison and Naomi are both top 10. Nalani is top 20.

To make the final four we have to clean up our service issue ( both serve and receive ). Also our back row play is sub par to other elite programs. You can't just have great net play in this era of volleyball. That worked in the past, it doesn't work now.

In searching the DMNews for words on Madison Williams, I discovered the following. Williams was selected to the USA Jr National Championship all-tournament teams this summer as her team won the 17 year old open division title. Williams was listed as one of the 21 pre-season All-Americans by USA Today. So far in the season, The DMNews has Williams ranked at number 16 in kills per set...…..3.5. The top is 5.8 per set for the reigning Texas Player of the Year Paige Flickinger who is going to UCLA. Williams doesn't show up in metrics for blocks, aces, digs or assists. Williams was named the tournament MVP as Lake Ridge won the Mansfield ISD Methodist Mansfield Medical Center Invitational the first week of the season, and she was an all-tournament selection as Lake Ridge reached the semifinals of the Northwest ISD Classic last week.

I remember Parra now. I’ll look back as well as search YouTube. As I remember her highlights, she looked really good. Always good to have competition .....Williams and Parra to replace White. That’s if they will be in direct competition. Lots could change before then. Thanks for reminding me of Parra.

So I was just wondering since melanie parra is an international recruit. Do international recruits take official visits or do they sign the papers and come in the spring or summer?

Sad to report that Madi Williams suffered an ACL injury last Friday. Best wishes to her in her recovery.

So sad. Hope for a speedy recovery and she comes back 100%... I'm so glad melanie parra is coming in though. With this class I think Texas will be better than they are this year

Texas is not allowed to comment on unsigned recruits, but I think you can probably read into Jerritt's statement that "This is just the start of this class; we look forward to rounding it out in the near future."

Getting Para will help with the news of Williams being injured, IF we get her. What are the odds of Williams being able to play next season ? .....or will she have to red shirt.???

I truly believes she redshirts just because she is coming off a serious injury that takes months to heal then you still have to work on getting her better than she was before which is a work in progress. As everyone can see Texas is very cautious and serious when it comes to injuries. Brionne butler was day to day in the beginning of the season but that turned into weeks and is still a work in progress so Texas takes injuries very serious and Williams injury is much worse so I think they are going to redshirt her

With signing of another setter, I think Shook transfers. So assuming Parra signs as an OH and takes an already planned for scholarship, that leaves another recruit. So Elliot may be referring to two more recruits. Or he may bring Parra on and keep for following year. For sure Shook may stay, although if she wants more playing time, I think she transfers.
