There have been some defensive 1st round picks since VY. Jamaal Charles was a 3rd rounder.

That is part of their stealth $EC recruiting effort.

Should have been Charles, but he was not 1st round. Can't think of anyone else.

Actually we've had two 2nds, so Charles is not the one to note imo...
    2007 2nd Blalock
    2008 2nd Sweed

*2014 was the first time since 1937 that no UT players were drafted.

Looking at the polls. Texas would stomp a mudhole in everyone ranked ahead of us right up until you get to tOSU.

None of those teams are as good as Texas.

3rd and 17! ARGHHHH... a stop and that hot offense of ours is back on the field driving and winding down the clock. So close! But we called a blitz and they executed. As Bill Parcell's used to say; you are what your record say's you are. We had and made choices. That's who we are.

Yes, we blitzed. Herman said after the game, they were trying to get a sack to give the offense better field position after a punt.

They executed, but the missed arm tackle by Sterns on the sideline was the back breaker.

That sounds about right. We were high up on the west side and could not see who missed the tackle.

1000 % this — what I want more than anything right now is for Texas to start winning the conference again. That will set us up for the larger goals.

I watched that play several times after the game. It was a high-stress situation for Burrow and he threw a wobbly pass while falling into the scrum. The receiver made a nice cut off an out move to get inside Sterns and he was off to the races. Just pure speed. Sterns was probably doomed staying up with a route like that. The sack was the vital part of the call. It didn't happen.

Yes, but the physicality, which has improved, was not evident on that play. After the catch, Sterns has the angle, but instead of putting his in front, he tries to grab the guy to take him down. Classic arm tackle that usually doesn't work. Not a physical hit and tackle. Maybe LSU still scores later, but who knows?

The SEC is 9-9 against the Big 12 the past four seasons after LSU’s win.
They average 30.2 ppg offensively, while giving up 30.6..

    He was injured.

Even though there were several posts also complaining about how we didn't blitz enough. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Did we ever stop a single pass play where we didn't pressure Burrow?

    Oklahoma State.

Did they reload at DB better than we did? They still allowed 400+ passing yards and 4 TDs.

Jason Witten? We have a guy remotely close to that on this team? Do we even have a guy who should be taking playing time away from Johnson, Duvernay, Eagles, and Smith; or even Burt and Epps?

It could just be situational opportunities where the opposing D leaves the TE uncovered. I think Brewer and Leitao are capable enough to exploit that a few times in a game.

I’m not sure Burt even needs to see the field again.

Shipley on Texas Game Day Final on the 4th and 3 TD: "Duvernay looks like my man Quan Cosby in the Fiesta Bowl...".

Edit: Your post #348, just got to it. Yes, Shipley agrees with you.

Brewer has the hands to a reasonable facsimile of Whitten, maybe not as good blocker. Brewer just needs to develop a repore with the QB.

Do not remind me of any of these games ever again. The first two were miserable to experience in person. They do not make me think nice things about Ehlinger, who has vastly improved since then.

Baylor as well. We are better than Okie State and Baylor, but those are losable games with our secondary unless it vastly improves. Tech could join the list, but too early to tell, and I am not giving Tech the benefit of the doubt under the new coach yet.

That play was nothing short of a miracle by Burrow. From here it looks like a good play call to blitz, that came up just inches short of working. This video shows it from the end zone in slow motion (I realize some of you don't want to see it again, but for those that are interested, considering this thread still has life):

Skip to about the 50 second mark if you don't want to listen to the introductory spiel. The RB #22 picks up the blitzing LB just enough (and he had whiffed a few times earlier in the game on blitz pickups) to give Burrow room to get skinny and sneak up in the pocket, but even so he's falling left avoiding guys as he throws up a weak pass.

Also doesn't look to me that Sterns missed a tackle. He was just in a tough spot trying to cover a #1 WR who got several steps on him before he caught the ball. Not much that taking a better angle would have done to help him.

It was just oh-so-close to being a great call by Orlando. Easy for me to say but LSU rolled 7's to get that result given the blitz.

@NorfolkVATiger, Sterns was burned then he missed the tackle. He had the angle to get his helmet in front of Jefferson but instead tried to grab him and take him down. We all know the result.

Just watched it from a different angle, maybe you are right. Sterns hesitated a bit in his pursuit.

Yeah Caden missed that tackle. As one of my two favs to watch I single in on him a lot during the game and I’m a bit concerned because he has definitely changed his reckless abandonment style play - it’s significantly less aggressive. I do not know the reason; injury, fear of injury, fear of penalty? Don’t know but I can see it.

LSU doesn’t want you to know it was from the heat from the burners cooking the crawfish.
