Something from Inside Texas on Jaqwondis Burns

‘20 IMG Academy (FL) LB, Ole Miss commit Jaqwondis Burns... Burns was pleasantly surprised with an offer from Texas on Tuesday. The 6-foot-3, 200-pounder burst on the scene during UA and Opening regional camps and committed to Ole Miss last spring.

Texas co-DC Todd Orlando was in Bradenton, FL last Friday to see the three-star 'backer. UT has shown a renewed interest with Burns, and Jaqwondis is willing to listen.

“(Coach Orlando) and I were chopping it up about my games and my fit,” said Burns. “I always consider every opportunity. Just have to talk with my family.”

You could say Burns is a soft pledge to the SEC Rebels.

“Texas is a great university, both academically and athletically,” Burns said. “They have a unique culture that not every program in the country has.”

He wants to setup a visit soon, so it’ll be interesting how UT handles this recruitment. His “little” brother is 2022 Dallas Skyline DL Bear Alexander. Texas is squarely in the mix here.

Fridays in the Humidor - 10/4/19 - Inside Texas

    More Burns

The latest: Burns is a new name on Texas’ radar; he picked up an offer on Wednesday. The three-star outside linebacker pledged to Ole Miss back in April. Herman’s staff wouldn’t have extended an offer to Burns unless the Longhorns felt like they have a shot at flipping him. Burns is a Texas native who was a first-team all-district selection at Terrell as a junior.

Orangebloods says both WR LV Bunkley-Shelton (Gardena, CA) and WR Loic Fouonji (Midland Lee) are both still planning on taking OVs to Austin in the next couple weeks.

So TFB is saying Eaton may flip to ou -- as mentioned above, he noticed their pathetic DB depth chart
Has not done so yet and he is not an early signer so this could drag on

Maybe keeping options open in case Ringo signs on.

For Early Enrollment, I hope. Come on down, Mr. Collins.
Maybe Van Fillinger too? Not certain.

See his follow up interview with the local paper in the Bijan Recruitment thread.
He is the guy we want in the locker room.
Wish I could stream that AZ showdown game tonight.

Right but one of the guys who talked to him said he heard some hesitancy in his voice. And that he definitely noticed their wide open depth chart. As always, we will see.

44-7 Salpointe in 2nd quarter. Do not know if Bijan is still in or not.

Nice TD run. Another AZ high school record he is pursuing.

Corner Canyon (Van Fillinger) is up 35-7 in 2nd. #74 Jackson Light might be a little larger and plays DL and center for CCHS. Interesting guy to look at.

Bijan on a 31 yd. pass, 51-7 at halftime.

CCHS up 45-14 at the half.

I did not hear the tweet, just read it. Either way, if a guy balks at buying into the program, just go get someone else who does buy-in and count the blessings of knowing early where he does or does not stand.

Salpointe 58-7 on a 32 yd. pick 6 return (not Ransom). 4th quarter now.

Utah HS Bands seem to number ~45 members and these are not small schools. Girl drill teams as are almost dressed in Burkas.

TFB says he feels like everyone in OK is one big happy family which is construed to be important to him if he does not make NFL. One, familiarity does indeed breed and two, education will get you farther than homies. He does have an uncle in OK.

He will be taking an OV to Texas as will Josh White and LSU is nervous enough to offer an in state LB they had passed on previously. Eaton may not have time to go back to Norman, so we'll see. Wants to sign in February, so if we get Ringo, he might run off to OK.

    58-13 Salpointe is a final.

CCHS is up 59-28 with 2 minutes to go and I am done. Happy game tomorrow.

Good stuff, thanks for the updates.

I wish to point out that of all the things I'm happy with in the program by far the biggest is the ability of the staff to identify talent. They found Derek Kerrstetter late and he has turned into what looks like a 4 year starter. They found Tyler Owens and offered before he blew up and now he is looking like an impact player. This year they found Fillinger and Karic who both look like 4 star prospects in their own right.

I'm telling you, this staff knows how to find talent. develop talent, and create a atmosphere that promotes achievement.

Can't say how much I love the direction of the program.

Ojomo was a late find too. The big TE from Temple should be included (Jared).

I think Wiley, Ojomo and Kerstetter were all 3 Stars when Herman spotted them. For some reason Van Fillinger still is.

Ossai comes to mind too but I don’t recall how he progressed his Jr and Sr HS years.

That will probably send him to Blow U. He does not seem too keen on education, competition on the field nor development. That worries me.
