Our DB's and linebackers are injured, banged up, depleted. The guys playing now are mostly really young and inexperienced. We are playing big, bad, ou with their (some say) Superman receivers. So we should be shaking in our boots, right?

    WRONG.

Yeah, we are banged up, and injured; and really young. But dayum! These guys come to play! They NEVER give in or give up. Maybe they are so young that they don't know when to quit. Good. Don't anybody tell them. Like Jamison intercepting a pass that made SC top 10. DAYUM!!

Our defense makes a lot of young, dumb, full of c-m penalties and mistakes. Yes they do. But my god, our whole defense plays rough, tough and more physical than any Texas defense in the last few years. I love the fight and heart of these young men.

Our defense will be very intense, intimidating, in your face. Not much will come easy for the ou receivers. In a word don't count the young guns from DBU out this Saturday. Look for Hurts to throw a pick or two.

Look for our offense to keep the ou defense on the field and wear them down. Look for our run game to show up big. Look for Sam to run in 2 td's and pass for 2 or 3.

Not picking a winner just yet. That will be later in the week after we find out who is out and who is well enough to play. Either way, the Horns are going to bring IT on Saturday.

Dele and Jamison made some really great athletic plays! They may be young but we haven’t had this level of athletes in quite some time!

Dele looked good. Mitchell seemed to have a sub-par game. This is not my worry part. OU will get their points. Need to have OL play more consistent upfront. And having CJ back at WR will be a big help

Ossai is also playing like an upperclassman. Even when he is not making a play, he is around the ball. Watch closely and you will see him flying to the ball carrier on every play

I thought Mitchell played well enough. He was in on some plays. The wvu d-line was pretty good. The Stills Bros are experienced and tough. It was expected that we would lose some battles. Our o-line is pretty good. Like everyone else we don't win every battle.

Completely agree with this assessment. It seems that, as hoped, these young guns are growing up right before our eyes. And at just the right time. I love the fact that players like Jamison and Adeoye are gaining confidence. I thought that both were stellar Saturday. If Jamison can hold his own on one corner Saturday it will be a huge deal.

The key on D Saturday will be our ability to pressure Hurts. Make that happen and the results will be very pleasing.

On offense, I just hope we can run the ball. If so, we may just control the game.

Before the season started I said I expected our defense to have a rough start due to youth and experience, but that I expect for them to be a strength for the team by the end of the season.
Even fter all the injuries, I still believe that this. They will be playing at a much higher level by the time we face TTU and Rapelor.
Definitely going to be a strength going into next season.

I reckon this is the key to the game for us. We'll need to minimize their offensive possessions and score on just about all of ours. If OU is allowed to get rolling we might need to put up 50 points on offense to win this thing.

Overall, I like our receiving corps. I mean with Duvernay leading the nation in receiving (not sure he still is after this past weekend) and Eagles and Smith living up to billing. But what I would like to see is our receivers planting a foot and making a sharp cut, getting separation and catching the ball on the run. Now I realize that's a little more risky than stopping suddenly and catching the ball flat-footed which I think is what we do most of the time. On another note, i hope Duvernay gets a least ten catches and Smith and Eagles gets a TD reception

How many times have the Horns been favored over the dirt burglars in the last 15 years. I can only think of 2004 and 2009. Remember 2008. We didn't stand a chance that year, just as we don't stand a chance this year. Hell we didn't stand a chance in 2008 when we were one point down at halftime according to Herbie and the rest of espn's ou suckups.

^^Agree with only one caveat: I LOVE our receiving core; especially if C Johnson is healthy and playing.

Also, i really like the 0-60 acceleration i saw when Kirk Johnson carried the ball. (with his speed a jet sweep might be big--or a screen pass) i think he needs to get between 7-10 carries per game. The kid has some wheels. Especially if Ingram is dinged and not 100%. Also, I'd like to see Daniel Young get 3-5 carries a game. R Johnson seems to be clicking now too. Running backs suddenly are coming around nicely. (Especially if Ingram is 100%.)

I agree that Kirk needs to get more carries. He is finally healthy and I think he could be especially motivated to get his.
    Let him run!

Ingram otoh just needs to get healthy.

Kirk Johnson needs to get the ball on sweeps instead of up the gut all the time. A few misdirection plays would be nice too.

I think I have the perfect game plan for Hurts. I don’t get paid millions a year to know this so I may be way off. With Hurt dropping back for a pass and the field spread out that he gets big running lanes. I’m wondering about a spy. Not just any spy. I’m talking Tyler Owens as the spy. He only out ran the fastest HS kid in history the first 40 meters in the 6A state track meet in the 100 meters. He’s actually got good size to be that fast. What I don’t know if how good of a tackler Tyler is. He’s been on the kick off coverage team and I saw the opening game he went down and blew up the return man. But with Dicker kicking out of the end zone his opportunities to show what he’s got is limited.

But if he can tackle in the open field well I think he’d be the perfect fit for that package. At least do it in obvious passing situations. What do y’all think?

Sounds like a plan to me but will the rest of the secondary have to play man to man?

Maybe have a front three and send an extra fast athlete as a blitz from a different direction every time to hurry up his throws. He will beat us at times but he will make mistakes as well. If he feels the pressure he will try to tuck the ball and run and that’s where Tyler steps in to clean up. The idea situation is if our front 3 or four are beating their OL so we have more defenders back there. Drop off Tyler a little bit to crowd the passing lanes a little more and be fast to come up if or when Hurts runs.

I just want our defense to dictate what happens. I feel if we are playing to keep everything in front of us he will have time to throw and pick us a part. It would make him feel comfortable back there. It would also give him the option to run.

We better play them like we played Georgia. If we run that 3 man front with late blitz from way off LOS, OU will kill us. Our offense better be ready for heavy pressure. We better have some screens ready ( and I don't mean those bubble screens that fast defenses eat up ).

I don’t think we will run a “late” blitz. But OU has a running QB and Georgia didn’t. Unless you were saying we need to play the way with the same intensity.

Exactly! They have one of the best receiving groups in the country, and with enough time, they will get open and they will score often.

I know I sound like a broken record, but if the officials choose to ignore the mastery of holding perfected by OU, the Texas secondary will have a long day. The OU offensive line should struggle against the Texas front, without help from the zebras.
