How many DC's do we have to go through before we find a competent one?

3 turnovers and a couple of key stops kept us in this game.
The D did not lose this game.

Tackling was a huge issue, but quite frankly I had no idea who we even had playing most of the time. We were down 4-5 guys in the secondary. Biggest issue we have is edge pass rusher. Coburn does his job. But we don't get enough off the edge. Graham had been playing pretty well but don't remember calling his name today.

And 276 yards rushing with 511 total yards. Those desperation turnovers in the red zone kept this from being a complete blow out. The offense didn't pull their weight, but they at least owned time of possession. Maybe that was because the defense kept getting torched. The defense didn't show up for the most part except for a few good plays.

The defense kept us in this game. Yes, bend don’t break and lots of bad tackling. But without the defense, this would have been a blowout.

Personally, I've never liked this scheme. You want to get pressure on the QB, 4 down lineman is the best way to get 1-1 DE against a tackle. Also easier to get batted balls. People were running air raid when we had Jeffcoat, Rak, Kindle, Robison and the 4-3 or 4-2-5 did just fine. But I hate the 3 down lineman. Just never get pressure without bringing a safety and they can't get the push a 270lb DE can.

There is bending without breaking and there is playing on your heels. The d made enough plays for us to win. My biggest complaint is that when we tied the game, Orlando went right back to a three man line and what seemed passive approach and the dirt burglars torched them with long runs. When the d needed to step up they couldn’t. Having said that the loss was primarily on the offense and beck/herman’s Play calling

Maybe not but this could have been a blowout if not for the defense.

Fair enough. Felt like a blowout and that Texas really never was going to win. Conversely, had 3 guys been able to tackle Cee Dee, maybe he doesn't score and the game changes. Anyway, Texas lost by 7, but, moral victories aside, they dominated Texas.

Maybe OU is legit? We'll see, but they looked pretty freaking dynamic today.

They'll be top 4 tomorrow.......and we still have shot at New Year's bowl.

We're almost there, just not yet.....recruits that will improve us are hopefully on the way....also, injuries are not our friend this season...

Everybody loves the coordinator when the stats are good, everyone thinks he's incompetent when the stats are bad.

Not sure he's the end-all be-all, but considering the youth and number of injuries he's working with, plus the fact that... I dunno... OU's really good on offense... I don't think it's a good idea to label an established DC as "incompetent."

Yeah, at this point, the players were in positions to make plays. Gawdamn wrap up and tackle. I'm sure by this point in the season, that has been drilled to death. These guys just don't do it very well. Not on the DC, IMO.

No way we get pressure when three guys rush against five, and we had that multiple times today. Just mo, but it seemed they could double our guys often.

Im losing faith in TO. Our defense has gotten worse statistically every year. How many weeks do we give up 500+ yards before its enuf already?

I must have been at a different game today. Every time the UT offense scored to seize some momentum, the UT defense could never deliver a 3-and-out. Same exact thing happened versus LSU. This defense can never get a clutch stop at critical times during the game. Times that would alter the momentum. The offensive play calling was bad today, but our current defense is one of the worst in the country right now.

In the first half D kept us in it, the second half......not so much. The youth and now injury plague on D has hurt us in 2019. Should be improved in 2020.

Except the fumble, pick, and 4th down stop. Oh yea, those clutch stops. D did not play well today, but to say they got no clutch stops is not factual. Tackling was atrocious though, I'll give you that.

I posted back in 2016 my concerns about Orlando's pass defenses. His best ever was his last year at Houston when they were ranked 66th I believe. The year before 111th then he came to our pass happy conference. This year we are 126th in passing defense. Last year we were 112th.

Total defense this year so far we are 112th and 54th in rushing defense. If a team sucks this bad at defending the pass then we should be way better than 54th in rushing D. Even Techs D is ranked higher and they get blasted for not having a defense at all.

We are also 74th in scoring defense so don't believe the "bend but don't break" crap I keep seeing. Tennessee is 59th and how freaking bad is that team?

Everyone PLEASE stop giving this man a pass because we play in the Big XII. He doesn't have a clue how to defend the pass. Are we young? Sure. Are we injured? Sure. But coaches get paid big bucks to scheme around that and he just keeps doing the same things that fail.

OU has stayed relevant and on top due to stud qb’s. They simply outscore all the Big 12, win the conference, and then lose their bowl game to a better opponent. Texas hasn’t had the “it” qb since Colt McCoy.

Just thinking out loud. Who else could we get as a DC? Aranda won’t leave LSU for Texas. I also don’t think Herman will dismiss Orlando. But this defense needs improvement pronto. Herman May have no choice if this bad pass defense continues all season. We need to pressure QB’s inside 2 - 2.5 seconds on passing downs. That is not happening. I do think the secondary is improving but something must also be done about tackling in the open field.

Was it one of the worst tackling games i have ever seen by any college team? YES! But i think ceedee lamb is also one of the top receivers this side of Tuscaloosa.

Our D creates 2 big TOs deep in our own territory and should have had a 3rd if Jamison could catch the int in the end zone in the 3rd. Soooners had a starting field position of their own 41 yd line. Read that again. They started on avg from THEIR OWN FREAKING 41! I just looked at the prediction thread and only 9 of 60 ppl predicted OU to get less than the 34 pts they scored.

Does our D need a lot of work, hell ya.

But we had a MASH unit out there yesterday that held it together well enough to give us a chance to win. Barking up the wrong tree here with Todd O and the D.

Please read my post above listing both current and historic Orlando defenses then tell me if you still feel the same way. I'd have a hard time accepting what he puts on the field annually as solid. We've just been outscoring teams for the most part with an occasional good defensive performance. We need good defense every week not just occasionally and not just in quarters or half of a game.
