I know I have staggered onto a gooberville site. The aTm fired Bear Bryant because he couldn’t win the big ones and have been firing off in their pants ever since. Did anybody listen AT ALL throughout the summer that our young defense was going to be an anchor to pull all season? Or did we all drink the burnt orange coolaid and decide that was just talk? The only thing that might/probably get run off is recruits! Keep it up, Gig ‘em Horns!

I'm still on Team Tom. I'm critical of a lot of what I see, but I don't want to throw him to the curb. Certainly not yet.

BUT...what sayeth you if he elects NOT to fire the assistant coaches who are contributors to this dumpster fire? At what point does the head of the snake become fair game?

I think you miss the points. We should have lost to Kansas at home. We lost on the road to a very mediocre TCU team. Poor coaching decisions are resulting in putting an injured defense in the same crappy position week after week causing us to be one of the worst P5 or for that fact any defense in the nation . We see players getting worse as the season matures.

I recall very few predicting more than a 10-2 season. Many predicted 9-3 and in year three that should be the expectation. I dont think anyone here expected playoffs, but I heard a ton of talk after ESPN stupidly predicted it. This team is beating its head against a wall and the parts of the team playing well are regressing. This season is looking more like 6-6 or maybe 7-5 and that's not good enough in year three.

I am hopeful with a few coming back from injury we can rebound and win 3 of the last 4, but I'm very worried we lose the next three and go into Tech with zero team chemistry, a broken locker room and end up fighting for a win on the last drive. God forbid we lose the Tech game too and end up 5-7 and the poo will hit the fan.

This season is summed up perfectly by the recent prediction contest...there is zero excuse for ANY poster to be winning by picking the opponent AND damned near nailing the score. This SHOULD NOT be happening in HornFansLand...

The fact that it DID is cause for calls for change...

A lot of talk of improvement the defensive starters return from injury. How much practice and game time reps have these guys missed? Also, will their technique have magically improved so they don't get re-injured when they do return?

I'm very skeptical that any of them will make the magic difference for Texas to suddenly start dominating.

Right on! Texas fans seem to eat their own, acting like aggie. (Aggie has a big graveyard of coaches!)

With all of this kind of talk recruiting will fall off and the downward spiral of the program picks up steam. After a couple of years of this the cupboard is bare and the cycle of losing seasons starts over again. I sure am glad there was’t a message board monitoring my performance screaming “fire him” every time I had some bad months.

Current Tom haters are the same people who wanted him hired. Give the man a chance!

If the malaise and losses continue while little action is taken in an attempt to correct the problem, a clear tipping point will be reached about TH.

This seems to be the place to vent about our head coach and the state of the program so here goes....

Count me as another one who certainly didn't have playoff expectations for this team at the start of the season. I actually expected us to take a small step back because of our turnover on defense and would have considered a 9 or 10 win season a great year and been thrilled with it. I still would.

After the Sugar Bowl vs. Georgia I thought we had really rounded the corner as a team. I didn't think we were 'back' on the national stage yet but felt we had established an identity and that our kids and staff had this thing by the reins. They don't. The team is just 'off', the defense is a wreck, and at a school that should never have a coach who needs to learn on the job Tom Herman seems to be doing a lot of it in year three. Regardless, he isn't going anywhere and will be our coach next year.

I don't think his job security should be in question at the moment but I don't feel the same way about all members of the staff. We've got bigger issues here than player inexperience or injuries. I'm going to withhold further judgement until the end of this season and feel it will be quite telling whether Tom Herman willingly makes any staff changes or not.

because we played better last year with one recruiting cycle. We are suppose to be improving. Yesterday was lackluster. There’s one play you can watch close to the start of the game that told us we weren’t mentally in this game. It was 3rd and 3 on the goaline on our first or second series. Sam gets the snap and our OL didn’t get much movement and Sam really didn’t run hard. Not like we’re use to seeing. The effort and motivation wasn’t there.

This is nearly the same thing Herman did at UH...We just didn't get to see him in year 3 at UH. He is not the answer if he doesn't fire Orlando and Beck.

IF this season continues to go south on us, I can see two proposals that might be given Tom when the season's over; 1) get rid of your OC and DC, plus any staff that's not cutting it and hire the best out there...no "buddies", then you get one year to turn this around or 2) you and your staff are terminated now. If TH takes option #2, then go talk to and hire the absolute best Power 5 coach out there, no Group of 5 or lower, and not not merely the best available, go to THE BEST. May cost some money up front, but to continue down this path is unwise. Especially so, since the stadium is being renovated and those costs need to be covered and the seats all need butts sitting in them to generate revenue to replace the money expended.

Personally, I'd give Tom next year to turn this around, but place some lofty goals for him to achieve; ie: make the CCG and win it, beat OU in Dallas, no losses in the OOC games, win your bowl game or make it to the CFP (which is a long stretch).

However, I would not just let him come back next year without goals, an/or staff changes, because nothing will change and the results will be similar or perhaps worse than this season.

Unfortunately, I believe there is a high probability that the current quality of football and results will remain the same as this years.

This team has just too much talent to be talking about missing the bowl game. This team has enough talent to challenge for a playoff spot, but it won't because our coaches can't pull their heads out.

The rest of this season is a rope, they can use it to pull them and the team out or they can use it to hang themselves. It's all up to them. Tom Herman built this team and staff, he can fix it or go down with it.

I've personally lost faith in this staff to be anything but Charlie Strong 2.0. Right now it looks like history is repeating itself. After DKR we had Akers who ran the program into the ground. Then McWilliams and finally Machovic. After all that dog crap we finally bring in Mack. Now we have had Charlie who was possibly the worst coach ever. Then Herman, I'm guessing we will have someone like Mackovic before we get another good coach like Mack.

I was pretty low on Akers as a coach back in the mid 80's too, but looking back I don't think it's appropriate to to say he ran the program into the ground. Rampant cheating ran Akers into the ground.

I would like to point out that Chinstrap is right, give Tom a chance. However, Bevo Joe is right, hold Tom accountable and give him a chance to right the ship in 2020. The 2020 season needs to have attainable goals attached to it thereby if he does not reach said goals and has no predetermined reason, (ie. massive injuries) then he is terminated after the 2020 season. I do think there are issues with Tom's management style and I am not sure what the issues are. Could be his personality. I don't know. But he needs goals attached to the 2020 season and the opportunity to right the ship next season. I would very much imagine CDC will do exactly that. Of course, he will decide the goals. But I would bet he reads this board. Sometimes.

TH better get it figured out pretty quickly. The overall coaching in the league appears to be on the rise. Kansas will not be a gimme in the future with Lester. Bailor, ISU, And KSU appear solidly on the rise. The dirt burglars and okie aggy always tough. Sand aggy and the hillbillies are an unknown right now. Obviously Patterson’s cockroaches own us. Herman will get owned if he keeps sending out a team that has been given mediocre preparation at best.

Tom will snow CDC with injury excuses for his defense, and turnover battles lose games, etc....The hot seat will not come until this time next year, and Herman will convince CDC etc that he needs an extended contract to get recruits to sign on....Then we will have to fire him with several years on his buyout like Charlie.

I’m with El Sapo, not ready to fire TH but I have concerns as does everyone about our overall effort. Roach missing what should have been a safety (and should have been a face mask penalty) really bothers me because the kid actually made the d*** first down! This was not a defense lost game though they made several mistakes, this one imo is on the offense and as much the lack of any originality in play calling as the player effort. I do assign blame on both.
Watching many games Sat I think I can confidently say our offense is very lacking in any creativity. Sam had a sub par game, no question, but continuing the outside crap was insane. Watch even Michigan with their blocking schemes and you’ll see how mundane our structured approach is. I for one am so tired of “we’re going to become focused on the run game” only to see the same s***. And teach Sam to read the d*** defense. I love the guy but he does get tunnel focus.

Seriously you think it's hornfans that's running off recruits? It's the play on the field dude. These guys aren't stupid. They have eyes. To fix recruiting we need to fix the play on the field. It's that simple. TH is getting paid 5M to figure that out. He has 2 weeks. Lose to KSU he needs to be gone. Put Urban on the clock.
