Wow Duke, I hadn’t thought of DJ. He was a great one but you’re correct, he did not play with the great abandonment he showed early in his career. Nevertheless a great Longhorn!

From what I can say about Herman is that he is too relaxed against inferior foes and it shows. For big games he is intense and so is the team. Saw that at UH with him.
I don't think he has enough meanness in him to want to crush lesser teams into obliteration and embarrassment. We should of beaten that TCU team by 3 TD's, if they give the same effort as LSU.

Effort only produces when you have experienced talent on the field. LSU game injuries were not as much an issue. By TCU we were about to call in anyone who played safety in HS last year.....from the student section. We had no one left to go in the game we were 3rd and 4th string. Kansas was about the same.

What "progress" do you think we'll see this week? Just winning isn't progress if the coaches keep doing the same stupid things. Tom point blank said that we have better players coming back into the same plan so trust the plan. You saw what the plan did with LSU and a full cupboard of healthy players. It wasn't good enough. We can out talent most teams, but sooner or later we have to out coach those with similar players.

The injury excuse is bs. We don't dominate when we are healthy. Plus somethings wrong with our system if we keep getting people injured. As in bad trainers, warm ups, diet, practices, injured vs hurt, etc..
Our 3rd strings are 4 stars and can play if properly coached.

Herman needs to change how he is doing things, I hope he has the humility to do so.

Well, the progress I’m hoping to see should come primarily from the back end of the D - players with enough experience to know where to be and what to do on a given play. I think that will happen because of the kids we’re getting back from injury (and hopefully those kids are truly healthy enough to play hard). With the back end playing more sound football, sound enough to trust, then coach O and the front end of the D won’t have to tilt the scheme so much protect the the guys behind them.
I think the offense is really in pretty good shape though I would like to see a more consistent ground game - when we get 3, 4 or 5 yds on 1st down keep running the damn ball!

Yep. This team was preseason top 10, picked as a potential CFP team, and halfway through the season we are hoping to see "progress".

    Pathetic.

Glad I’m not a coach. TH can’t possibly win with some fans, no matter what he does. The Coach’s system got the players hurt???
    :idk:
Does anyone know or track how these injuries occurred?

We see this differently then. I don't see progress as players coming back from injuries. To me progress comes in individual player development like better tackling or better coaching decisions like not blitzing three linebackers from 10 yards off the ball or if coach uses three down lineman he has to teach them they have to occasionally get pressure on the QB without a blitz. Now that would be progress.

I am absolutely certain better players will make a positive impact, but progress comes from learning from mistakes and getting better so you don't make those mistakes again.

Actually, I was mistaken about seeing progress in one game. We actually saw HUGE progress yesterday in the clock management. Running the clock out and kicking the field goal so that Kansas State never got the ball back or a chance was fantastic. Herman is learning! There is hope on this front!

Orlando is also not done yet as a defensive coordinator.

That said, special teams still need work. We need to hire a special teams coordinator for next year.

    I dont know, horn.
    A. They should have never been in the "expected to be vying for CFPC" group to me...wasnt fair or likely expectations
    And
    2. Alot of the fans who wanted/hoped for them to be just that also prognosticated losses to OU, LSU and TCU/Iowa St. and have been recently freaking out.
    ...Doesn't compute
Now they moan and groan that the team is 6-3 and has lost the games they forecasted them to lose, preseason.
    A bit duplicitous...
