    My two cents:
I wouldn’t jump off the bridge just yet
Every school in the top 50 I checked scheduled rather easy opponents not just for there first game but most did so for quite a few games before seeing some real competition USF did the same in regards to their first game Texas was the second for them. One of the Reasons why coaches do this is you don’t get many exhibitions during preseason so they schedule like this to help team get out a lot of the mistakes, work through rotations, make adjustments etc. KA decided to play an extremely good team who if were not for injuries last year could’ve made the sweet sixteen and now being healthy could very well make it this year as a matter of fact I would dare to place a wager they will be in the top 25 by the time tournament time comes along so no upset last night Texas lost to a very good team who has played with each other. Texas did not look the way they will come March and with all the complaints I’ve read here they had a lead and was tied late, these girls are playing with each other for the first time so they will learn how to close. This team will get better during the season agree or like it or not the early part of basketball is like preseason things will change. There are some things I would like to see cleaned up but I am not the coach however I believe KA and coaching staff know what needs to be done and will get it done. For the record I am not a longhorn fan just a fan of the sport only found this site while reading on a player I’ve followed through aau and high school

    Honestly at this poin
I was just thinking the same thing. If Texas would have scheduled one or two easy games before usf and get those game reps and the chance to actually work together against a different opponent and to see how different lineups work then they could easily beat USF although usf is an amazing team I still have hope in this team so hopefully that game was a wake up call and they come together after a loss instead of holding there heads down and learn from it and correct there mistakes and dominate whoever they play.

High-low between Holmes and Collier was one of the positives that I noticed last night.

100% Agree. I just want to see more of it. That should be our bread and butter.

I think Joyner's best asset is her passing ability from the post. Hopefully we'll see more of her potential come to fruition this season.

Joyner just needs to play hard ALL the time. If she does that she’s going to have some mistakes but she’s also going to fill up the stat sheet.

Only other time under Aston: 2016-2017 when the first game was on the road at #10 Stanford.

Yes I think she gets in a hurry and begins to do to much when they are down. She just needs to calm down and take it play by play.

Once again our attempt to "out-athlete" our opponent is beaten by their ability to "out-execute" us.

A few observations on a Monday while sitting with my feet in my fireplace contemplating the cold front coming and sipping morning coffee and being thankful of a happy retirement. Of course I would be a much happier retiree if the Ladies would have had better than 53% free throw percentage, made more than 1-9 from BTA, and gotten some more of the late rebounds USF made offensive. The Ladies played hard. Just not well. Aston summarized it by saying “it was an ugly game”. USF is solid. Taylor and Underwood were o-for. Amazing that 2 starters were held scoreless. Where is the scoring going to come from other than Higgs, Sutton and Collier? Palmer tried hard and hustled but her handle was shaky which is understandable being a freshman.....need to see more from her to see if she is going to be a rotational player eventually. C Taylor will get better.....I think it will take perhaps 10 games to get her bearings. Looking forward to a couple of easy games before some challenging games that will reveal the true nature of this year’s team.

And yes.....I forgot Holmes but my question about other scoring options is still valid.....I suppose.

My thoughts are similar to yours. Joyner played really well for much of the game, but, as others have noted, makes some of the same mistakes she has always made: too many travels and makes at least one ill-advised jump shot at a critical moment that leads to a quick score on the other end. But on the scoring woes— several plays led to good open three point shots that the shooter missed. Worse- the team did not secure the offensive board. Higgs was shooting well from beyond the arc (new for her) before her injury last year so maybe she will be better with a few more games. If Palmer can get comfortable enough not to hurt the team too much in other areas, perhaps she can provide some shooting. Sutton’s leg is a concern.

Texas does not have the athletes to out athlete anyone anymore, nor do I see skilled basketball players. Sug is the only one that I can see that has real BB skills, even Lashann doesn't have real BB shooting skills, and it boggles my mind some people thought Joyner was the #1 player coming out of HS in 2016.

Ugly games are what you get when the skill level drops and your team doesn't know how to execute. Gonna be a long season, but the good thing is it will be CDC selecting a new coach this time. It would be hilarious if he went and got Graves after getting Mike White. I wonder what Sedona would think.

You came to that conclusion about Joyner after a game in which she had 15 points,10 rebounds, 4 assists, and shooting 50% from the field? Interesting. And Kelly Graves isn’t coming to Texas if the job opens up.

No, I came to that conclusion 2 years ago and she's done nothing since then to change my mind.

Collier and Holmes were fine. Higgs contributed. Sug was good considering she had not even been able to practice from what I have read. That is not enough. Not having a serviceable pg backup is surprising to me. The one thing I’ve come to expect from Coach Aston is that she will scour the nation and beyond to meet her roster needs. Even in the exhibition game, Allen-Taylor had no more than one assist. I’m concerned about Warren. How many concussions has she had already?

Why two years ago, why not three? It’s a good thing you’re not in the ranking players business, for whatever that’s worth.

Actually I said she was over ranked coming out of HS and Lauren Cox was the better player and got criticized for my comments. I don't think any coach would take Holmes over Cox today. I've also been right on with about every player I've assessed so maybe I should be in the player ranking business.

Sure you did Paul Biancardi. And I’m also sure you were saying this when she was a freshman which has been the only year she played a full season start to finish and was clearly a better player than Cox and won rookie of the year in the conference, how convenient.

It's obviously absurd to say that no one on the team has any basketball skills.

I was at the game. I think the bus driver taking them to the wrong arena, making them really late to the game, probably disrupted their routine to make the beginning of the game more ragged than it might have been. I was really impressed with Joyner/Charlie high/low, it was probably the highlight for me. Shots were not falling. But, that said, we must adjust our offense to the zone/junk defenses. We do not do a good job of that and if our outside shots are not falling against the zone, we are sunk. I was not upset at all, everything is fixable, will it be fixed though, not sure about that. I am really concerned though, at the lack of post depth.

Did anyone watch South Carolina/Maryland game yesterday. Both teams looked horrid. I don’t remember how many bunnies Maryland missed. Shooting % for both teams was 31%, I think. I was thinking that we didn’t look so bad. Anyway, watching Tennessee/ND right now, both teams look good, esp Tennessee, not looking forward to going out there in Dec.

This Vol team is big. I think they said only 1 player under 6’ on the roster. Ball security not a strong suit - 12 TOs in the first half.

Yeah Tennessee is a big team. They said this is the tallest team they have had ever. So rebounding has to become a priority like now to prepare for teams who are bigger. Arizona will be a great team to really see our rebounding because they are big as well

Nice article about Lashann in her hometown paper.

"LASHANN Higgs returned to her role as the top scorer for the Texas Longhorns, but the team suffered an upset loss in the season opener. #Higgs scored 17 points but the No.15 ranked Longhorns suffered a 64-57 loss to the South Florida Bulls. She shot 7-16 from the field, added four rebounds and returned to the form from last year’s season-ending knee injury."
Lashann Higgs scores 17 in Longhorns' 64-57 loss to Bulls

Your first line is scandalous for Texas. Who is responsible for taking them to the right Arena. Did they do a walk through there? What time did they plan to get there? The staff person or lack of staff person should be investigated and perhaps fired. Is this a Plonsky or CDC budget cut? CDC is a terrible AD but put forth such a caring face. It is all an act. He only cares about one thing and that is $. This in my view is a foreshadowing of a dismantling of athletics other than FB. The budget cuts that led to Fran Harris' departure are finally catching up with Texas.
