So was Ricky Seals-Jones and Ryan Perrelieux. What's important to remember is that football is a team sport. Selfish Stars can tear up program and in the long run make no contribution. If there is no buy-in from the player, it is always best to find out early and go to someone who really wants to buy-in and play with the team. That's why we don't have drama queens and Roschon Johnson, Sam Ehlinger, Ingram, Kerstetter, Coburn, Collin, Burt, Stearns, etc. want to play here.
Well the honest coaches always say pledge the institution not the coach or not the team. And since 95% of these guys will not make it in the NFL, it is always best to bank on the education. Even if you do make it in the NFL and you cannot understand the implications of the contractor how to invest the money, you've lost anyway because you are dependent upon advisors whose competence you cannot judge. Bottom line is if you don't get educated and get smarter when you go to college, you lose.
Nailed it. And even the few who do play in the NFL will be gone no later than age 35 - that leaves a lot of years, hopefully to do something productive. A good education would help them prepare to be productive.
Wasn't the Davis kid one of the Dallas kids that came on board because of Samples? Not surprising he jumped off equally as fast. I have a feeling Samples will be back next year to replace Mehringer. Actually would be a very smart move, also would be a smart move to find a place for Traylor, maybe replacing Wareheim.
Maybe there is a holding pattern because coaches will be replaced at end of season. People including recruits just need to be patient. I suspect things will work out okay.
Someday someone will have to explain private highlight videos to me. I just do not understand that at all.
Well, if we sign our present class including Bijan, I think we will do well next year and recruiting will be even better.
We need Alfred Collins in he worst way. I'm pretty happy with our class also, but we need athletic dline help badly. Getting an elite corner is also a huge must for this class, but that isn't likely to happen with the way our season and staff issues are going.
Good point. In my earlier post, I said they would be gone by age 35 - I should have added the average age, and noted that only a very few NFLers last as far as 35. Good clarification.
^^^^THIS! I don't have much regard for recruits or players that have the "all about me" view and are worried about playing time rather that being ready to step in and achieve team goals. These are the ones that have "Do Three and Be Done" written on their forehead, or if they don't get enough PT, they enter the transfer portal. They could care less about the Team as long as their personal stats look good.
Off topic, but that article uses a phrase that has always scratched chalkboard for me: "unchartered territory." No one has ever hired a boat to go into that part of the ocean....
Thanks for the post, Joe! With those options, I wonder how much he has a love for the Longhorns....2 of those 5 are probably in the playoff.....
