Guess we shouldn't complain too much. In the DMNews today in an article about SMU men's basketball it was noted that coach Jankovich is doing everything he can to get two transfers eligible. It was mentioned that in the last week a couple of AAC schools had waivers approved. Currently, he NCAA has approved 36 waivers, denied 4, and is still reviewing 74. Probably this is just men's...….or not. However, it does give a flavor for the magnitude of the transfer waiver process. So with a lot of cases pending, I am not getting hope up on Ortiz's case being settled soon.

    Her first practice was yesterday.
Her junior year at HBU she averaged 10.3 ppg, 3 rebs, 2.8 assts. With a 12 player roster and not knowing about Ortiz’s eligibility I think there was some concern about depth!

Was she the only one? I saw the NCAA womens basketball instagram roadtrip with Texas and I saw the players warming up and I saw two players I didn't recognize. Maybe it was just me but sophie is the only newcomer this season? Also did you see ashlee hannan? Me and a couple of other people were wondering if she was still at Texas?

Tonight's exhibition reminded me of something that happened during the exhibition game in Sug's freshman season. All the starters/upperclassmen were on the bench and the freshmen and sophomores were finishing the game when Sug got the ball at the top of the key. She was trying to set up the offense and use a bit of the clock so she was slowly dribbling backward toward the half court line. Texas coaches and players on the bench were all yelling, especially Karen and Brooke, with each step inching her closer to a backcourt violation. It all happened at such a slow pace that when she finally did step on the line, everyone had a laugh, including Karen. Hard to believe she's now a senior - time flies.

Interesting our roster size (depth) and height. In perusing our schedule the first real challenging game is the fourth game against Arizona and will be first game that will be a measuring stick for the year. Don't know what their record was last year or what they will be this year but of note is their size...roster and height. They have 15 players while the Horns have 11 (12 if you count the new walk-on). They have five players of size that could give us problems...…..6'6", 6'-3", 6'-3", 6-2", 6'-1". Horns have two...……..6'5" and 6'3". Underwood and Routt are both 6'-0" and I doubt Routt will be a rotation player. Anyway you cut it, the ladies will have their work cut-out for them inside early on. Doesn't mean Arizona will win. However, it will give us all a snapshot of what I believe will be the inside challenges all year. In game 7 against NC State, they have 14 on roster with 7 bigs from 6'-5" to 6'1". I didn't look at Tennessee or Stanford (they always have some height), but did Baylor. They have 5 bigs with 6'-6" and 6'4" (Cox) the tallest. It can be frustrating to play good D and then cant get the rebounds. Perhaps we will play so fast that size wont be as big a factor. Interesting to say the least.

Actually the first game on the road against South Florida will be a challenge. USF is picked to finish 2nd in the AAC behind UConn. Charlie Creme has them as a bubble team in his preseason predictions. With that being said I see and agree with what your saying by the rest of your post.

    Charged with domestic violence:
“An investigation showed Martin arrived at her ex-girlfriend’s house, entered the residence, and pulled the victim’s hair, according to the complaint.

Martin and another woman then allegedly pushed the victim against a storm door, where she was beaten, choked and shoved.”

After that performance, is Aston on the hot seat? Has to be, no?

Really good interview and questions asked from the media. A lot of the things that we discuss on here.

I was just going to suggest here for all to go watch the Aston press conference. Beat me to it. Just about everything we discuss here was asked by the media. I can’t imagine other press conferences of our coaches going into that much detail. Good professional, well thought out questions. And same type responses from Aston. She certainly recognizes the issues. Everybody can make their points if you agree and whether she will or can get this team where everybody wants it. She again says last year was tough. No reason to go into all that again. I’m not going to try to summarize or repeat any of it. Watch it yourself. It’ll make you a more knowledgeable poster.

One thing I learned from the Aston press conference was that they practice without refs. Now, in my head I know that because you don't see refs in the background on all the clips they give out. But then, you think......."Oh, I see. Since they practice hard with no refs, of course they're not used to being flagged for rough play until the game." DUH, SMH.

Zaay Green from Duncanville and a sophomore at Tennessee tore her ACL in practice and is out for the season. It didn’t stop them in their victory over Notre Dame .Lets hope they don’t get totally adjusted to life without her until after we play them. Notre Dame is down to 7 scholarships after recent injuries. Seems like they won the national championship a couple of years ago with a similar run of injuries. Ten players(9 scholarship) for the Horns should be manageable.

Texas isn’t the only Big 12 team dealing with injuries. Baylor’s Lauren Cox has a foot injury.

The Horns are getting some unwanted attention. ESPNW panel was asked to pick an upset this weekend. Graham Hays offered that, "The safe pick is probably Arizona at No. 22 Texas because Arizona's Aari McDonald will be the best player on the court in Austin on Sunday.

In answering the same question, Michelle Voepel answered, "South Florida already has beaten Texas; could it add an upset over Longhorns nemesis Baylor to its résumé? Coming into the season, we'd have said "not likely." But if Baylor forward Lauren Cox misses that game -- she's out indefinitely with a stress reaction in her right foot -- that makes the Lady Bears more vulnerable against a team like the Bulls."

Aarie McDonald is a 5'-7" guard who is averaging 22 points a game over the last two. Don't know if she is a point guard or two guard, but probably a point. So who guards her? I believe C Taylor is the best defensive player on the team. Higgs is good defensively, but takes too many high risk plays trying for steals. Probably don't want your point guard guarding the best player on the other team. So perhaps JO Taylor is it to start off. Interesting to see what Aston comes out with.

That is ONE terrible first half against Arizona. This is one BAD team. I am going to take the dog for a walk. Done for the day. Perhaps the sun will come up on Monday on this really BAD basketball team and coaches.

Im realizing the success of this team will depend on sug sutton. Just watching the game Texas plays well when sug sutton is looking like her old self. Which she showed flashes of during the game. She is a playmaker and when she makes smart decisions and penetrates defenses thats when everything opens up and the offense scores. So it's really on sug to play well because collier is going to do what she does regardless as well as joyner holmes when she slows down and lets the game come to her.

I need some help. I don’t think the Southern University the Horns play Sunday is Texas Southern(the team that trounced RGV). The link to open the SU website doesn’t work for me but I suspect this team is in Louisiana somewhere. Anybody know how SU has done so far this year?
