This is by a noted Chinese economist, who knows the Chinese currency well. He notes things are already tight now, and there would be a spillover effect.

Which means the protesters currently have a strong position. Doing anything overtly severe, like mass slaughter by the PLA, could do real harm to the CCP and Chinese economy. Which explains their strategy of trying to wear down the HK protesters

Lastly, there are also indications out there that China has taken some massive short positions in the USD.

Actually good to hear that Hong Kong has some leverage in their conflict with the government. I thought they had no chance at all of getting what they wanted.

This is good but who thought it was a good idea to pay them taxpayer dollars to subvert our national security in the first place?

Subsidies are bad. The fact that they are given to foreign companies is secondary.

Subsidies always privilege one group or company at the expense of everyone else in the country.

The news coverage of this if Trump's name were somehow involved would be wall-to-wall nonstop. But China does it and they dont seem to care. Why is that?

Remember how we all look down on Europe for appeasing Hitler in the 30s?

In 50 years people will think the same way about the US and the rest of the world in regards to China. Whether China start a war or not.

Go to China. No wildlife like squirrels, birds, etc that we take for granted in America can be seen in urban areas. I never noticed the absence of wildlife until someone pointed it out. We often take Chinese visitors to Huntsville State park to see wildlife.

Why isn't there wildlife in Chinese cities? I haven't heard about that? Pollution or people eating them?

I agree about China's economy being threatened by debt.

But I don't see anyone getting upset that the US government with the Fed is doing the same thing to us.

Printing money and handing it out to people, allows unsuccessful or unproductive activity to steal capital (i.e. our store house of resources) from the productive. It steals your savings. It steals your salary. And it hurts the working class the hardest. Trump COULD do something about this now and provide real leadership for the future.

He knows it is bad because he talked about it on his campaign. But he has influenced the Fed to once again increase government debt and increase the money supply to pay for it.

Terrorist prevention centers. That doesn't sound hideously scary does it?

With that name you can just about justify anything you do within them. There are not prisons. They have religious freedom. We just have to do whatever is necessary to prevent them from hurting other people. For their own good and the good of others.

This is the road that Socialism ALWAYS goes down. Leftism even in the US is just the preamble to Socialism. But Socialism always enslaves people. The USSR was considered by those living within it to be a large open air prison.

Once 1 person or 1 committee gets to make decisions for society, that entity's view point and preferences is turned into a plan. More directly called a set of laws. These laws are made in order for the proper functioning of society. If individuals do not abide by these laws they are threatening the operation of society at large. Dissidents can not be aloud to speak or disobey, because the fate of the whole society is in question. Once your society elects to be Socialist, this is the reality of the situation.

Read Hayek's The Road To Serfdom. It is a much better explanation of what I just wrote.

Maybe there is be hope for the world yet?

Almost all these HK protesters are young, they want freedom and democracy. They are millennials. I think their engagement and the risks they are taking against the commies and the totalitarians are inspiring. I am hopeful maybe our own millennials will learn something from their example
