Offensive Play Calling

I’m not exaggerating when i ask... do we have THE most unimaginative play calling in all of college football?

It honestly feels like we have 3 or 4 plays in the entire playbook.

And our pass patterns must be incredible lame. Even when Sam has plenty of time... no one is open.

What happened throughout the course of the season? How did we ever score as much as we did against LSU & OU ?

This just isn’t fun to watch.

Why are all the running plays up the middle? Why haven’t we used R.Johnson more creatively and let him throw a pass or two? Why no misdirection plays? Why not have Sam tuck it & “run” on those 4th & short plays, then pull up and toss it to a probably wide open receiver? We throw that stupid pass out to the flat so often, why not pump fake that every now & then and throw it down field?

I don't think RJ has thrown a single pass. We were running that reverse throw to Sam some. No wheel routes. What does TB get paid for?

It's pretty bad, but not the worst. The offense today was hard to watch outside of a couple of drives. Over the season, outside of Dicker and one kickoff return (against Rice), the special teams have been an absolute dumpster fire.

Why we cannot incorporate misdirection at the line of scrimmage at the snap is unfathomable. Every good offense does it, and doing so causes the LB's and safeties to at least pause to figure out where the ball is. It's so elementary and for whatever reason we don't do it.

Even worse than the lack of imagination is doing exactly what the opponent wants you to do. When you know ISU is selling out to stop the run why in the hell do you wait til 2 min left in the half to start throwing the ball down the field? And that was even more applicable on the last drive. And gain why do you run Sam into a brick wall on 4th down?

And don't even get me started on the one thing you can't do on a FG try when there are under 5 yards to go.

Beck and Orlando both have to go, and if not then Tom has to go. I'm sick sick of underachievement and waste of talent I'm puking.

TB gets paid to recruit and be the good QB coach that he is. But I agree no imagination in play calling and not enough misdirection. Perhaps Beck could be QB Coach and that Assistant from NC could be promoted to OC? We need a new OC.

I'm not sure sometimes if it is the play calling or Sam's attitude but it really seems like our best drives are when we are playing with our backs against the wall. Sam seems to me to be just a tad tentative when we are ahead or even, but when we get far behind and need a score then the gunslinger comes out and he starts throwing it and making plays. I appreciate a QB protecting the ball and trying to be smart about his throws but I think part of the reason we never seem to go full throttle is that he's a bit too protective unless we are in catch-up mode. And don't get me started on our receivers….Sam's throws are usually a little off but goodness those guys should be able to hang on to most of those.

Sam is a great guy but there are so many times he throws the ball behind the receiver enough that even when caught it slows the receiver down enough to prevent a very large gain.

Sam is hurt as evidenced by either throwing into the ground; or 15 feet above the ground more often or not. Coaches probably have told him not to run, but that leads to the 5 second sacks.

Is Thompson that bad? I would say no, but TH is probably aware CT will not be around next season so why give him experience ?

Alabama put all their cards on Tua and now he's done. Should Saban have kept Hurts as his starter because he could handle the punishment better than the smaller Tua?

They haven’t told Sam not to run if they call running plays with him the carrier! This with Daniel Young and Kirk Johnson on the bench is what ticks me off. Get them in the game. We certainly won’t be the only college football team to run more than two backs!

Bama's offense may be better now without a 60% Tua. Lets watch and see. Now Auburn has a great defense, so it might struggle against them. They did score more than 7 of Arkansas' other opponents when Tua sat out vs the Razorbacks. What Saban does has nothing to do with our *** poor offense.

It's time to sell our soul to the devil and install a "true" spread offense. The only way to beat "good" teams in the B12 is to score 45+ points regularly. You have to take an early lead, then trade scores. This has been OU's formula for years (not including the Baylor game). Strike early, quickly and often. Then hang on for the win.

Also, every great, large HS in Texas (Allen, Southlake, Westlake, Lake Travis, etc.) runs an up tempo version of the spread. You may keep great players in state for a change. Two of OU's receivers last night are from Allen.

Its not the backs...Its the scheme and "slow to the hole" coaching.

"That assistant" went to A&M Consolidated and comes from a line of Texas HS coaching royalty. He is a better coach than anyone on Herman's staff, including Herman. He doesn't need a binder because he is one of the most focused coaches I've ever known. Question is, what does Herman have him doing, because it is clear to me that Herman hasn't heard a damn thing Larry has said since the OU game.

I was fully in favor of hiring Herman, but now want honest answers to two questions:

    Why did Aranda say "no"?

What the hell is Fedora doing?
