While this is extremely disappointing, our passing game was very effective. A good coaching staff adjusts the game plan as necessary. We didn’t, and that ultimately lead to the loss.

It means Texas can’t dominate the los in the 4th qtr after they made a comeback n isu’s d was tired. When the offensive line gets loaded come back n tell me how we should beat/dominate any team with results like this.

Because we couldn’t run the entire game, when we needed some first downs late, why would Herman think that we could run the ball at that time? It was a flawed strategy.

Because this talented offensive line can’t run block. I’m beating the dead horse but why does everyone think we can dominate with this group?

F that...Sam is THE MOST SACKED QB in the Big 12. Think about that for a minute, if I were on the O-line, my pride would be in the gutter!

Yet Herman calls run plays when we have to have first downs to run out the clock vs ISU.

How do you know? It seems like we had success running between the tackles some times, but we did it so rarely and our formations were so obvious when we did, I think we could run if we weren't so GDS predictable!

They got 4 stops in a row. They actually got the key stop we needed, but our offense decided to just give Iowa State the ball back. They were also on the field most of the game with our numerous quick three and outs. At some point, the defense will wear out.

Sam creates a lot of his own sacks, if not most. He has quite a few sacks where he has great pass protection but waits far too long to throw/make a decision or moves away from his protection or decides to run, but runs the wrong way.

We ran ran for 54 yards on 26 carries. The backs ran 14 times for 27 yards, or less than two yards per carry. So I have to ask, what success did we have running between the tackles?

So are you saying that Ehlinger should just throw the ball away more, and his holding onto the ball is the problem? I don't think so.

Time of possession was 32.5-27.5 in favor of ISU. That's not enough of a difference to say the defense was worn out. Especially when our calling card is supposedly we will be stronger and in better shape than anyone else.

Absolutely this! I watched one play where he stared to the left side for 4-5 seconds like he had only one option hoping it would open up. It ended in a sack. I started noticing this during the Kansas game and he stares down receivers a LOT! This used to not be the case so I wonder what coaches are putting in his head to question himself like that. Sam is a playmaker and seems like he's been told to think more or something.

Junior Angelou is one of the best run blockers in the whole B12. He’s out hurt!

Zucker was the Tom Herman champion when he was hired beating the drum non stop. Now that the **** hit the fan of course he will defend him with every excuse in the books. Not sure why the man love but I have to give him credit for sticking with his guy in the face of adversity.

Thanks for all your support...… We all want to be back to elite level, but until we get a few good years of recruiting, a couple (many?) injuries and some bad breaks can be lethal....I'd go to the trouble of listing the Rivals rankings for our starters on the dline and oline, but I'd get tremendous flack for that. I haven't done so but I'll bet everyone in the current top 10 has had above average to excellent recruiting signings over the last several years. They've got talent and depth at most positions. Texas just isn't there yet, so when key players go down, next man up is, well, the next guy wearing a Texas jersey but not necessarily almost equal to the first guy...…. I'm kinda worn out fighting this cause against so many.... I'm looking at it this way: There were years and years where Texas had sooooo much more talent than many other Big 12 schools and it was laughable to say that, when we got beat, the other team had better players. This last decade? Not so much..... BUT, since we're road dogs to the likes of ISU, probably Baylor, maybe Texas is the team that's the underdog, but we go in there an fight it out, JUST LIKE THE LESSER TEAMS HAVE DONE AGAINST US IN THE PAST! I don't know if we can beat Baylor, but I'll bet we'll see the same extra effort that they gave against ISU. Will Texas win? Remains to be seen, but I'll be surprised if Sam and company just lay down and get smoked 55-35. It may happen but until it does, I believe in the toughness of this team. Eliminate some costly errors and ISU goes differently. Do it against Baylor and there could be a W.

    NOT-READY-FOR-PRIME-TIME-HERMAN.
That's who he is. He has a singular way of thinking most times. No instinct, lack of gut-feeling.
When we got the ball back after their last punt I said to myself I hope we don't run the ball we'll get stuffed and that's what happened and then a 2nd time. We needed to play as if we were down one or two points. The other team knows in this situation you run the ball to kill time. Thats conventional thinking. Thats what herman means by "prudent". But the other team is going to be ready for that so you have to do something different. they were ready to stop the run. But we should have been attacking by air and misdirection. How about faking a handoff, sucking in linebackers, and then throwing behind them. A throw to Duvernay would be money.
    Herman was using short-sighted thinking.
This is why I predicted we were going to go 1 and 3 before the Kansas State game which I am still super surprised we won. I just know this coaching staff. Herman is in over his head.
Like many of you I am sitting there thinking we need to attack and not run. But Herman is thinking differently, that we just need to run the ball to run out the time. But we were not successful up until this time so why would it work.
Not ready for prime time Herman.

So very sorry you're disappointed in the KState win. Maybe Texas can lose to Baylor and Tech so you can feel better about yourself.

With 3rd or 4th and 2 or less we don't get under center with a 240 lb QB and push him forward....ever.......We run our offense out of shotgun by God.....
    Enough said !!!!
If Herman had been our coach in 1996 Nebraska would have beaten us in the CCG. No way he would have called "Roll Left"....
He is the Barney Fife of college football.."BY THE BOOK !!!!!!!!"

Isn't it extraordinary that ISU celebrated so wildly as if they beaten a mighty undefeated powerhouse team. Everybody gets up for Texas. Ok,ok they just kicked a game ending field goal. They should celebrate. Im just crying in my beer.

Zuck, I think you may be ignoring reality. How does our recruiting compare to Kansas, Baylor, TCU, and so on? Recruiting is an excuse that disguises the fundamental issue.

Look at what Campbell has done at ISU. He does more with less.

Look at what Rhule has done at Baylor. Talk about more with less.

Look at what Gundy does at OSU, again with considerably less talent.

It’s all about coaching, and the coaching and decision-making at Texas right now is quite suspect.

I had a tOSU fan and med school grad mention the Peter Principle with respect to Herman. He believes that Herman and Fickell (their DC at the time) may both have exceeded their level of competence when they moved on from Ohio State. That may have been the case as well for Herman’s predecessor here, and Red suggested.

Like you, I thought that the Herman hire was a can’t miss, no-brainer. Now, until I see evidence to the contrary, I’m willing to admit that I may have been mistaken.

    Duke,

All of the programs mentioned have to do more with less.

So, for the lesser programs, that's their wheelhouse and can be appreciated. For the larger programs, you take away the starters, and now they're in unfamiliar territory, dealing with less.....The lesser players don't generally play at better programs, but they're on a "winning team". At Baylor/TCU, these guys are playing (game ready).
