Not a fan. It'd be better to simply have rows of seats and a tunnel. Better yet, mirror the north end zone.
Ok, I have to see the finished product to be a believer, but I think it's kinda cool. Non traditional for sure but the overhead "blimp" stadium shots on TV will probably look pretty freaking cool.
Interesting point I had not thought about, and something that will make DKR really unique among college venues, I think ... does anyone else have something similar built into their stadium?
I wanted the north endzone mirrored as well. Would have been really cool. Someone had a model of it in their signature on this board.
I'd love to take credit for that, but I heard that as a talking point on local radio and I thought it was a good one. They said there is nothing like it really anywhere.
I hate to be the one, but... I don't like it at all. It's too gimicky for me. As for the loss of potential seats, however, I think we already have plenty of seats, and now we will have more, so that's not an important issue to me.
I said it on another thread but I love the design. And consider this. DKR will almost immediately become the most iconic and recognizable college stadium in the country. Forget about the Big House, the Shoe, Death Valley. Every fan across the country will immediately recognize “The Horn.” I see it as an absolutely brilliant marketing and brand strategy and I wouldn’t be surprised if the stadium is featured on news channels beyond our shores.
My two pesos—it’s a bit silly. But if we must do this, then make the horn head look almost exactly like the one on the helmets.
Not sure they can and still achieve the straight lines and necessary angles to accommodate the suites.
Also not a fan. It'd look cooler if it had more fidelity to our actual logo but for starters it's the missing the ears and I'm not a fan of the angular horns. The narrowing at the end of the tunnel should more reflect the rounded nose of Bevo but instead it's just a wide open chute. A ton of money spent for something that kinda, mostly, looks like our logo? Pass
Just because something's unique doesn't make it good. I have similar thoughts about our band uniforms, but that's a whole 'nother thread. Mirror the north end zone. Larger capacity, more enclosed. That means more noise, more home field advantage. And there's the small matter of not looking stupid. It would be unique enough as a 120,000-capacity stadium that looks fantastic.
Maybe it is my dirty mind but if this was a Rohrshack I would swear it looked like a Uterus. the Uterus of Texas?
Yeah I think I’d rather copy NEZ (where I happily stand/sit) with orange colored seats that draw the figure of Bevo against all white seats. Much better than the birth canal.
There we go. Same effect, a lot less dumb. Of course, it wouldn't be visible during a game, when the stands are full. Aisles outlining the longhorn? But we know mirroring the north end zone would never happen, and why. Luxury boxes are where the money is made. Aesthetics, gameday atmosphere, and common sense be damned.
No, it's not just you. Evidently, it's everyone except the architect and possibly also whoever's signing his checks.
Yeah, the team or folks walking through the nose will make it look like Bevo has bad allergies or post nasal drip.
No reason they could t put a row of suites there. NEZ has that separate ‘club’ level. They could use that level. I don’t know how much they get per suite but that club level seating above mine is not cheap and there are several rows of people up there so it’s not low dollars. Heck my fee is now $750 above the seat cost for a donation and I’m #33 and 34 seats in 64 rows. That’s a ton of revenue in a rather small area and the ‘club’ donation is higher.
Might sound a little cheesy but they should make it look exactly like the decal on the helmets, and then have the tunnel made into the nose spot and shoot the smoke out as they run onto the field. It sounded better in my head by the way.
What is it with this school that everything seems to have some kind of gimmick to it nowadays? Colt and his hardhat/sledgehammer pic, video of TH tearing up lockers, TH getting off of a bus with a baseball bat, the LHN and their goofy programming (especially the commercials), bringing in Matthew McConaughey as the Minister of Culture, these 'artistic' touches to the SEZ and the new basketball arena. Every time I see this stuff I'm reminded of DKR when someone dared ask him if Texas would ever change their unis, “Hell, no, I’m not going to candy this thing up. These are work clothes.”
that's as close to a natural horn as i bet they can get structurally. much closer to the real thing than a tesla pickup is to an actual pickup.
