No spin. Just facts. And no amount of rewriting history will change that...

    who's rewriting history?

The guy who was supposed to support his new HC ... got canned. Because he supported his HC too much?

    yeah.

We’re not going to agree. The scoreboard reads 16 wins and 21 losses over three years. That’s why he was fired.

I"m not arguing that, Dukesteer ...

I'm stating that Strong wasn't supported by the very outfit which hired him and that's a foul.

That was realized and the AD's term was quite brief, too. If the AD wasn't a jackwagon, perhaps Strong would have done better? We'll never know, because we (UT) didn't do our best. In fact, it was downright despicable.

I’ll take a Morgan Scalley as DC from Utah. Dude is doing far greater with no 5 or 4 stars. And he is someone we can afford, if he doesn’t jump to HC...

    Badass ,

Do you know Graham Harrell? I invite you to visit Ennis HS (his father is HC) and his Tech teammates & coaches.

People can change and mature, perhaps he has, but I need somebody I know and trust to convince me.

BTW, who the hell is Anthony Rizzo, why does he have a say in Texas athletics, since right now I've got him on my gallatic dumbass list.

I think Graham Harrell is another name that should be considered top three to knock Beck to the deck.

I do not know him. But his work at improving a struggling USC offense merits his consideration, imo.

what am I missing? When you say support, what does support mean to you. Hope he fails? Did the ones you accuse of not supporting g him held money from him? The ones not supporting him call his recruits and told them not to come to Texas? Did Charlie try to hire a coach and they wouldn’t approve it? Did those that didn’t support him use a club to whack a player’s knee like they did to Nancy Karrigan? I don’t get it when this is made as an argument. Did you think those same people wouldn’t support him if the Horns were winning and going to the Sugar Bowl and beat a team like Georgia. Winning cures everything and there just wasn’t enough of that and we had three years to see a pattern of consistent losing. We got beat by Kansas that had only won 3 games in three years and they were against div 2 teams. I’ve heard this before and never figured out the cause and effect. So again how did not getting support translate to losing football games.

yes. 3 or 4 of which I am aware.

I don't know how else to say it. Texas hired a coach but didn't let him BE the head coach (IOW, in charge of everything surrounding the football program). That was the situation for Strong's first two years, then with the interim from Houston, former letterman whose name eludes me right now, they made the infamous trip to Tulsa to get a legitimate offensive coordinator ...

but the damage was already done and irreversible.

Why is that hard to understand? IDK what your line of work is, but if you are not empowered to do your job, whatever it is, it's gonna be a real challenge to do an acceptable job despite your effort and expertise.

We just extended Herman through 2023 after last year's 10-4/ win over blowu/ win in major bowl season. He isn't going anywhere. We'd look like impulsive morons if we fired him now. What decent coach would trust and want to come to a school that would do that?

What TH needs to do is admit that what he's tried to do isn't working, figure out what he wants to do, and make appropriate changes. My worry is that Coach Mensa is too stubborn to admit he F'd Up and won't cut deep enough.

Just look at Joe Burrow to see what good a change to the correct scheme can do for players.

Orlando isn't that terrible, when he has most of his starters. What i question, was his ability to adjust schemes with a weakened roster. I also can't stand the cushion we provide on wide receivers.

It's no question to me, that our offensive schemes lack creativity and innovation. Every other team caught up to our game tape after the LSU game. Outside of gadget plays, like the fleaflicker in the TCU game, there's been no creativity. Can't use trick plays as a crutch. Tim Beck needs to go. We need to not waste Ehlinger's final season.

Herman deserves a 4th year, but if he doesn't toss out Beck this offseason , I'm probably not tuning in next year.

Just because Herman is a F'up doesn't mean Strong wasn't a bigger one.

Just look at what is happening over in Florida right now, he took a decent non-P5 program and has run them into the ground. The dude is nothing more than a coordinator.

Under Strong we looked like the Keystone Kops with his lack of game day preparation. It was embarrassing. There are a lot of black coaches out there that can get the job done, he just isn't one of them. At best he is a good coordinator. He is not a good college head coach.

Ah ... so THAT justified hamstringing him under Patterson. Gotcha, thanks!

What is the evidence of this? I have certainly read it on here, but do we know these things actually happened save for the posts on here that it happened?

And, who did Strong want to hire that he wasn't allowed to do so?

Oh, while I'm thinking about it, who here still thinks Gilbert was a good and "legitimate" OC? Not me.

As far as the racial thing, and not to go West Mall here, but UT is so woke and liberal, it's impossible to think they would hamstring the first black head coach and then force him out. But, that's just me.

I'll find it and get back to ya.

only the candle-lighters deny it. It was revealed in Charlie's second year, IIRC, and was a major reason for Patterson's termination. IDK why, not addressing that, only that it was.

There was some racial opposition in a couple of the BMDs ... but, yeah, to keep it Football, it just was.

Okay, not arguing or anything, of course, just want to be see for myself.

BTW, really junior new CA in ORD here and somehow have managed to get Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, NYE, and most of Christmas Day off. The part of Christmas Day where Santa has already come and gone. Man, the pilots who think 91 corporate gigs are the way to go make me scratch my head.

the handwriting was on the field at Kansas. Look what Charlie has done at S. Florida. They also had a respectable program BS (before Strong).

    @horninchicago

it appears once I cancelled my subscription ... "horns Digest" went away. I didn't know I was so influential! :p ... the public could view the forums but couldn't post ... so I was hoping the link was still active. It's not.

This is where I saw it was documented. Chip Brown, a lady who's name I don't recall off hand but may have gone to the 247 side with CBS? And a guy named Jason Higdon.

Pops was the first in our circle to become a subscriber in the spring of 2014. We followed in 2015. Especially the Higdon guy, seemed like a reasonable place to learn/discuss UT football ... a cyber version of Jerry Scarbrough ... the aided ability to "converse" with the author himself. (I still have binders full of "True Orange" I faithfully read while I was in Uncle Sam's Aero Club.)

So ... that is what I remember and I'm sorry but I don't have a link which directly STATES "UT's Patterson went out of his way to short-circuit Strong" Sabre may have better information.

... what was unique about Higdon was that he'd followed STrong from way back ... and was our info on his outlook and actions taken at UT.

I can concede Strong wasn't the guy long term for our HC, but he DID flush the entitlement syndrome which had befallen our locker room ... and whatever else he was't ... our AD reflected poorly upon The University of Texas ... and we're still reeling from a couple of his decisions CDC has yet to reverse.

Not sure about flushing the entitlement. He had so many cute nicknames for the players, and I distinctly recall his talking about how players knew they could come to his house and lay on his couch anytime to watch TV. Sounds like entitlement to me.

And, the whole "Pit" intimidation talk was just...talk. Moorer seemed to be a dud in terms of instilling a tough mentality.

... .before I get hammered about Higdon ... it seems he's since marketed himself as the Florida Gator expert and AFAIK, hasn't offered his information about Charlie to the fans of Southern Fl. probably because of a franchise value?

So ... I'll concede I didn't know anything about Higdon until he outlined his following of Charlie ... it was a change in our program we desperately needed at the time, and he wasn't a fire-breather ... so I took him at face value on his STrong information.

You don't recall he fired 1/2 of the OLine and an up/coming running back ... Bergeron?

That shocked me! But I wasn't in the locker room either. he may have been an Edwin Simmons for all I knew.

Nicknames? hardly equates to the expectation of starting because of seniority, which is what was happening in the latter years of Mack. Not to mention deals with daddies.

    This would be irony:
You leave USC for Texas because your offensive coordinator left...
But you get “homesick” so you leave Texas and go back to USC, and...
Just when you’re getting use to your new offensive coordinator, he....
    Leaves for Texas!
