I'm tired of these kinds of generalizations and mockery of Americans, as a whole, while much of the rest of the world clamors to get here.

Saw a chart somewhere that showed caloric intake peaking a few years back and is now declining, presumably due to less carbs and sugar in diet. How they gathered the data I haven’t a clue.

I was actually bringing this up with some people over dinner last week, doesnt it seem like people generally are fatter now than 30 years ago?
And the "dumber" part seems a slap at unchecked 3rd world immigration -- so it a little surprising the Chron and its San Fran leadership would go there

another good Tucker Carlson segment - this time looking back on the rush to put Americans in Syria
Sometimes I wonder how much longer Fox is going to leave him on the air - he does not exactly repeat the company line

The article makes good points. What I think is ironic is that the same liberal rag will also argue that poor healthcare is the reason for poor health statistics in the US. Its clearly more related to diet and lifestyle.

But are they correct to be calling this great wash of 3rd world illegal immigration, which is what is lowering our test scores (the "dumber" part), "Americans?"

I was only referring to the article about American diets and lifestyles. I did not see an article on immigration. In general, I disagree with most opinion pieces put out by the Chronicle.

Good related thread, if anyone is still interested in the topic of Syria

I saw the Tucker Carlson segment last night. Sounds like more evidence of Trump not doing what the Deep State wanted and why they are lining up against him. Whiny career government people.

Max Abrams needs to go one step further. The "rebels" were predominantly Al Qaeda who started calling themselves ISIS once they took some land in Eastern Syria. Then he needs to research it a little bit to understand why Al Qaeda could go from being defeated in NW Iraq to attacking E Syria. Hint: It was Obama...

I played this video for my GF.

Her response was (and keep in mind she’s not political at all) “how can those people on those networks speaking to America daily and just blatantly lie in good conscience”.

My response to her was they are liberals and that’s just what they do. It’s in their DNA.

As an American who lives in Europe, I can certainly understand since I'm one of the ones directly being mocked. Lol. Having said that, the American health, diet, and fitness issues are a major problem that people need to address. I don't support sugar taxes and soda bans. However, people need to fix the problem with a little basic personal responsibility.

And FWIW, Europeans are following our lead and developing obesity problems of their own. It's not good for anybody.

The Vice Chairman of the DNC does not think he should be allowed to have a show on Fox.

The pull quote from the article notes one part of the USSR's eventual demise. Ann Coulter says Big Tech is doing the same thing to us now through its censorship

"As the availability of knowledge of the outside world expanded, Soviets learned that none of the party’s longstanding claims ... were true."

I wonder what they are calling "exercise." If you used your leisure time in the '80s playing soccer rather than playing video games or looking at internet porn, are we counting that as exercise or recreation? We could spin both as recreation, but one burns a hell of a lot more calories.

Ditto for work. Suppose you did construction work back in the '80s (when non-Mexicans were still doing some of the work). Was that exercise or work? If we compare that guy to some dork who sits at a computer at all day, we might call both work, but one guy is burning a lot more calories.

The point is that lifestyle matters more than making clearly defined "exercise" a part of one's life.

I don't know about you but internet porn falls under family time for me. Just me and Rosy Palm, and her five sisters all together.

this is a good question ...

but for those of us over 40 ... diet is far more important than exercise for controlling obesity. Need to take a gander at what has changed THERE.

Little Debbies were available back then ... and the low fat craze wasn't terribly old ... but I think the intake of grain and processed sugar is substantially higher today than back then. The consumption of saturated fats is much lower with all these fad diets ... consumption of natural sugars/fiber has decreased.

and we are moving more than we were in the 80s. A LOT more of us, a lot farther, and a lot more of our time ... travelling. Which makes it much harder to "eat right."

I read once where for the post-40 crowd, your size for your frame ... depends 80% on what you eat, 20% on what you do. Therefore, you cannot run away from the fork.

The message can’t be disputed so the left attempts to silence who they disagree with. If someone is silenced they can’t be heard.

My eye tells me that the women in France and Germany are significantly thinner than an American women. However, I'm in the UK right now, and that isn't the case here. The women here look as big as they look in the US.

I worked locally for a French based Corp for several years, left the company about 5 years ago. I'll just say this. When many Senior exec level females came here, they were certainly heavier when they left 3 yrs later (3 yrs was the norm for their overseas assignment) . The lifestyle here is different, the cuisine available after long 10+ hr workdays is different than what was available in Paris ,and the Pau area.

The joke was 'they came here hot, they left not'. Some fell in love with the BigMac culture, some never figured out how to balance their lives in DFW. I think most believed our culture was conducive to being unhealthy.

Bottom line, you have to dedicate yourself to a healthy lifestyle wherever you are, if that's important to you. No way around it
